Pentax has released a new firmware update for two of its cameras, because the previous update caused a bug which broke the contrast autofocus system.

Pentax updated its K-01 and K-30 digital cameras in January. Firmware update 1.02 became available for download on the aforementioned cameras.

Everything was alright until several users noticed a problem with the contrast autofocus system, which stopped working, for some reason, when recording videos.

Pentax released a new firmware update for the both the K-30 and K-01 cameras, after a previous update broke what it was supposed to fix: the contrast AF system while recording videos.

The previous update was released to actually improve contrast AF when using the HD Pentax-DA 560mm F5.6ED AW lens. Anyway, it did more wrong than right and the company was quick to acknowledge the problem and promised a fix.

Well, that fix is available for download now and it is called firmware update 1.03. It was released for both the K-01 and K-30 cameras.

Additionally, the 1.02 update also caused movie autofocus to break when being used in combination with other Pentax lenses. The company claims that this issue has been fixed as well, and that users have nothing to worry about, therefore they should install the new version.

Only PRIME M cameras were affected

Pentax found the issue with ease because it only affected the cameras powered by a PRIME M processor.

The Pentax K30 is a DSLR camera which features 16.3-megapixel sensor, ISO range between 100 and 12,800 (which can be extended up to 25,600), 3-inch 921k-dot LCD screen, full HD video recording at 1920 x 1080p resolution and 30 frames per second, 11 autofocus points, and SD / SDHC / SDXC memory card slot.

On the other hand, the Pentax K-01 is a mirrorless camera with K mount support and the same sensor found in the K-30. It also features a 3-inch LCD screen and a shutter speed between 1/4000 of a second and 30 seconds.
