Ricoh is rumored to announce a new premium compact camera, called GR II, which would replace the original GR as its name has been registered on the website of an Indonesian agency.

In April 2013, Ricoh began a battle against Nikon’s Coolpix A with a compact camera of its own. The GR also offered an APS-C-sized sensor with 16.2 megapixels, a lens with a fixed focal length of about 18mm, and a maximum aperture of f/2.8.

While Nikon is still hesitant to replace the Coolpix A, it appears that Ricoh does not share the same vision. The company has just registered the Ricoh GR II compact camera at Postel, an Indonesian agency where plenty of unannounced devices have been mentioned in premiere.

The name of the Ricoh GR II compact camera has showed up on the website of Postel, a regulatory agency in Indonesia, which is a hint that the camera is coming soon.

The Ricoh GR II was registered on May 20, 2015 and it is described as a compact digital camera, just like its predecessor.

One of the most interesting things about this fact is that the camera’s status is marked as “in production”, which means that the manufacturing process has already been started.

Furthermore, the shooter will be made in China. However, the original GR used to be manufactured in the same country, so the build quality of the GR II should be at least as good as the one of its predecessor.

Either way, if the camera has already entered mass production, then it might be announced officially in the near future, which means that you will have to stay close to Camyx to see how this story unfolds.

More information about its predecessor called Ricoh GR

Ricoh GR features a 16.2-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor with a GR Engine V processor and an 18.3mm f/2.8 fixed lens that offers a full-frame equivalent of about 28mm.

The compact camera offers a 3-inch LCD screen as a means to frame your photos and videos. The maximum ISO sensitivity is set at 25,600, while the shutter speed is located between 30 seconds and a 1/4000th of a second. However, a Bulb mode is available, too.

The GR comes with a built-in flash and a hot-shoe for accessories, including an optical viewfinder. Ricoh says that the camera is capable of autofocusing in 0.2 seconds and to record full HD videos.

Its launch price was $799.95. Two years have passed since then and now the Ricoh GR is available for purchase for about $550 from Amazon.
