Rokinon 12mm T3.1 ED AS IF NCS UMC fisheye lens revealed

Samyang has announced the Rokinon 12mm T3.1 ED AS IF NCS UMC fisheye lens for multiple camera mounts, which follows into the footsteps of the photography version launched earlier this fall.

Samyang has introduced several new lenses this year, some aimed at photographers and others designed for cinematographers. If you fall into the latter category, then you will be pleased to hear that the Rokinon 12mm T3.1 ED AS IF NCS UMC fisheye lens has just been revealed.

The optic will bear the Rokinon brand, one of the few brands which will continue to show up on Samyang products and will be released by the end of the year for full frame cameras.

Rokinon 12mm T3.1 ED AS IF NCS UMC fisheye lens introduced for videographers

The South Korean manufacturer has revealed that the Rokinon 12mm T3.1 ED AS IF NCS UMC fisheye lens has been developed for digital cinematography purposes.

This optic comes packed with a de-clicked manual aperture, which will deliver “smooth and silent” aperture adjustments.

Furthermore, the internal focus system reduces breathing, while providing “smooth and silent” focusing, which is an ideal situation in videography.

Samyang’s new 12mm T3.1 ED AS IF NCS UMC Cine DS fisheye optic comes with aperture markings in T-stops for more accurate exposure. Beside the aperture, the lens also features focus and depth of field markings, which will come in handy for filmmakers.

This is a fisheye lens which is said to provide an 180-degree diagonal angle of view when mounted on cameras with full frame image sensors. However, the lens can be mount on shooters with APS-C sensors, too.

Speaking of which, the product will be compatible with the following mounts: Canon EF, Nikon F, Sony A, Sony E, and Pentax K.

The Rokinon 12mm T3.1 ED AS IF NCS UMC fisheye lens features a trio of Extra-Low Dispersion elements and a couple of aspherical elements to complete a 12-element internal design split into eight groups.

The NCS and UMC coatings will work in conjunction at decreasing ghosting and flare, while enhancing light transmission for superior image quality.

Samyang will supply a petal-like lens hood in the package when the product begins shipping by the end of 2014. The price of the optic stands at $549 and it is available for pre-order at B&H PhotoVideo right now.
