Samsung is reportedly working on a mirrorless camera that captures only black-and-white photos, which will be announced sometime in 2015 along with the two replacements for the NX300 camera.

Photokina 2014 has proven that Samsung is aiming to get cozy with professional photographers. The South Korean company has revealed one of the best-specced mirrorless cameras on the market: the NX1.

Additionally, a couple of pro-grade lenses have also been introduced, as the manufacturer is trying to grab a piece of the growing mirrorless camera market share.

As the prosumer market will be covered for a while, it seems like Samsung will explore niche markets as well. According to inside sources, the company is planning to reveal a black-and-white camera, called NX Achromatic, which will compete against the Leica Monochrom.

The Samsung NX300M mirrorless camera will be modified to capture only black-and-white photos. The result will be called Samsung NX Achromatic and will become official in 2015.

Samsung NX Achromatic camera, that captures only black-and-white photos, rumored to be unveiled in 2015

Although the digital imaging industry is not doing so well, there is always room for niche products. Such a device is the Leica Monochrom, which captures only black-and-white images. The competition is close to nonexistent, but the Galaxy smartphone maker is aiming to change this.

Sources are reporting that the Samsung NX Achromatic is an NX-mount mirrorless camera which features the same internals as the NX300M. However, its Bayer array and anti-aliasing filter have been removed, therefore the shooter will only capture B&W images.

Its body will be made out of metal materials and a new firmware will power the camera. Furthermore, users will have multiple RAW modes at their disposal. The announcement event could take place sometime in January or February 2015 but the release date remains unknown for now.

Some details about the Samsung NX300M

The NX300M features a 20.3-megapixel APS-C CMOS image sensor, 3.3-inch tilting AMOLED touchscreen, built-in WiFi and NFC, a fast hybrid autofocus system, and a maximum shutter speed of 1/6000th of a second.

This mirrorless camera is still available at Amazon with an 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens for a price around $700.

Two Samsung NX400 cameras replacing the NX300 series early next year

Samsung will also replace the NX300 series with a pair of new cameras. Multiple gossip talks are suggesting that the South Korea-based manufacturer will announce two NX400 models, one of them featuring a built-in electronic viewfinder and the other one without having such feature.

Additionally, three new NX-mount lenses will be revealed in 2015. The list includes the 16-80mm f/4 OIS, 24mm f/1.4 ED S, and 11-24mm f/2.8 ED OIS S.

It sounds like the next 12-15 months will be very exciting for the Samsung fans, so keep an eye out for new NX-mount announcements!
