Samsung has officially announced the launch of the new NX300 mirrorless camera and NX 45mm f/1.8 2D/3D lens right before the start of the 2013 edition of the Consumer Electronics Show.

The new NX-series camera and lens boasts intriguing new technology for capturing both stills and full HD movies in 3D using a single lens form, not the dual lens form the industry already used us to. This option is available on the new Samsung NX300 camera only with the new special NX 45mm f/1.8 2D/3D lens.

Meanwhile, the Samsung NX300 mirrorless camera has a 20.3-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor, with a wide ISO range: from 100 to 25600. The new Hybrid Auto Focus (AF) system combines the power of phase and contrast detection focus for quicker, more accurate focusing in various shooting conditions.

A great addition to the package is the tilting 3.31-inch touch sensitive AMOLED screen, that let you also use the power of touch-focus. The camera is also WiFi-enabled, letting the users share the images directly from the camera or via AllShare Play. Additionally, photographers can remotely control their camera using the Remote Viewfinder tool in the Smart Camera application.

On the other hand, the new NX 45mm f/1.8 2D/3D lens, that is sold separately, is considered by Samsung to be the world’s first “one-lens 3D system available for the consumer”.  The shooter is also compatible with the entire range of NX lenses and accessories.

The new lens has a special button that, when pressed, it creates two liquid crystal doors that alternate while shooting videos, thus creating a 3D effect. Whilst it’s not the typical 3D effect of “screen-popping subjects”, the technique creates a realistic 3D depth of field effect in videos. Nevertheless, the lens can be used for capturing 3D stills, too.

NX300 camera will be available by March 2013 for $750 with a 20-50mm kit lens, whilst the new NX 45mm f/1.8 2D/3D lens will make you dig deep in your pockets for about $600, bringing the total price of the 3D ready camera to approximately $1,350.
