Everything is new in the NX1. The mirrorless camera sports a 28.2-megapixel APS-C-sized BSI CMOS image sensor and DRIMe V image processor. Samsung says that this is the “best-in-class” sensor, which will be capable of capturing high quality photos.

Additionally, the processing engine allows the camera to capture up to 15fps in continuous shooting mode. This feature will surely be appealing to sports photographers.

The system is getting help from the new NX AF System III, which includes a 205-point Phase Detection AF system with 90% frame coverage.

Low-light shooting will be a breeze as it comes with a patterned AF Assist Beam hitting subjects located at distances of up to 15 meters.

Noise will not be an issue, as the Adaptive Noise Reduction removes it when shooting at high ISO sensitivity settings. Speaking of which, the maximum ISO stands at 25,600 and it can be expanded up to 51,200.

Samsung NX1 comes with WiFi, NFC, and Bluetooth support to complete a wireless trifecta.

A smart camera with multiple wireless connectivity options

The Samsung NX1 will be added to the company’s Smart Camera line-up. The list of smart features includes Auto Shot, which is capable of tracking objects. For example, the camera will be able to calculate when a baseball will hit a player’s bat and will let the user know when to fire the shutter.

Additionally, the NX1 comes with built-in WiFi, NFC, and Bluetooth 3.0. The latter tool can be used for keeping the camera connected to a smartphone or mobile device at all times. Its main purpose is to get accurate time and location data from a mobile device, then to add it to an image’s metadata.

These wireless options also allow the photographers to remotely control their camera and to transfer images to a mobile device with ease.

One of the highlights of the Samsung NX1 is 4K video recording. The camera does not need an external recorder to do it, meaning that it will be able to capture UHD footage directly on its memory card, just like the Panasonic GH4.

Nevertheless, the shooter supports uncompressed video output via a microHDMI port. A stereo microphone will ensure that the audio quality will be very high.

When you are shooting in poor weather conditions, you can keep going as the NX1 is resistant to water and dust.
