Samsung has followed the lead of Nikon and Pentax by announcing a new camera this month in the body of the NX300M, a remake of the NX300.

October 2013 has been touted as an exciting month for photographers since earlier this year with numerous devices waiting to become official.

A lot of cameras are rumored to be unveiled this month and three of them are already official. After the Nikon D610 and the Pentax K-3, the Samsung NX300M has become official as a mirrorless camera with support for the NX-mount interchangeable lens system.

Prior to the launch of the NX300M, Samsung has posted the camera’s manual on its website therefore photographers have already been aware that the device is on its way.

The shooter is a remake of the NX300, which has been announced earlier in 2013 before the Consumer Electronics Show.

Since it does not represent a major upgrade, there is only one change available for the users: the 3.31-inch AMOLED touchscreen is now tiltable by 180 degrees, up from 90 degrees.

Samsung NX300M borrows its specs and traits from its predecessor

Samsung NX300M is more suitable for taking portrait photos. Users can now properly frame their auto-portraits, which apparently is a must-have feature in South Korea, the manufacturer’s home country.

Nevertheless, the specs of the camera are pretty decent, especially considering its price of 890,000 won, roughly $840, with an 18-55mm lens kit. To put things into perspective, the NX300 with a 20-50mm lens is available for $589 at Amazon.

It features a 20.3-megapixel APS-C sensor, DRIMe IV image processor with up to 8.6 frames per second in continuous shooting mode, NFC connectivity, WiFi, maximum ISO sensitivity of 25,600, and 1920 x 1080 video recording.

South Koreans can already buy the mirrorless camera, rest-of-the-world availability is a no-show

The mirrorless camera is compatible with the entire NX-mount lens lineup. The list also includes the 45mm f/1.8 3D lens, which can capture 3D photos.

On the other hand, the Hybrid Phase-detection / Contrast-detection Autofocus technology should allow the Samsung NX300M to acquire focus very fast.

The shooter is already available in South Korea in black, white, and brown colors. US availability is unknown for the time being, though the device should cross the ocean in the coming weeks, just in time for holidays.
