Samyang is reportedly working on a new telephoto prime lens with macro capabilities and a fairly bright maximum aperture that will become available on the market sometime this summer.
At the beginning of 2015, Samyang introduced the 135mm f/2 ED UMC lens for cameras with full frame sensors. However, the South Korean company is working on another telephoto optic with a fixed focal length in order to compete against existing Canon and Nikon models.
The rumor mill is claiming that the Samyang 100mm f/2.8 macro lens is in development and that it will be released this summer with a price that comes close to the prices of the EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM and AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED optics.
Samyang 100mm f/2.8 macro lens is in the works and it will be released sometime this summer
Photographers are quite fond of Samyang’s products, which are praised for their optical quality, design, functionality, and price tag. The company’s latest product consists of a 135mm f/2 telephoto lens, but this does not mean that the next product will be a wide-angle version. In fact, the South Korean maker will launch another telephoto unit during the summer.
The optic will have a focal length of 100mm and a maximum aperture of f/2.8. Nevertheless, this is not all, as the product will come packed with macro capabilities.
The Samyang 100mm f/2.8 macro lens will allow photographers to capture high-quality close-up shots in which the subjects are looking bigger than their life size in the photograph.
There are no words regarding autofocus support, but it is very unlikely that this model will become the company’s first lens with autofocus. As a result, you should expect it to be manual focus only.
Samyang to sell its 100mm f/2.8 lens for a price similar to that of its Canon and Nikon counterparts
The source has had something to say about the price of the lens. It appears that it will cost around the same price that you have to pay for its rivals, which are already available on the market.
The Canon EF 100mm f/2.L Macro IS USM lens costs about $900 at Amazon, while the Nikon AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/2.8G ED IF-ED lens can be purchased for about $735 at the same retailer.
This means that the Samyang 100mm f/2.8 macro lens will be priced somewhere between $600 and $700. Still, this is just a rumor, so you will have to take it with a grain of salt.
