Samyang has announced a regular version of the 50mm T1.5 AS UMC cine lens in the body of the 50mm f/1.4 AS UMC lens, which will be aimed at photographers.

Videographers are always happy to see Samyang expanding its VDSLR series of lenses. However, the South Korean company is also launching products built exclusively for photography purposes.

The 50mm T1.5 AS UMC cine optic was unveiled at the end of August 2014 and people have been able to see it in action at Photokina 2014.

The world’s largest digital imaging event is underway and the manufacturer has used this opportunity to reveal the photography version of the same product. As a result, the Samyang 50mm f/1.4 AS UMC lens is official and will be released on the market soon.

The photographer’s unit is similar to the one for videographers. The optical construction is similar comprising nine elements in six groups with an aspherical element as well as a hybrid one.

This internal design is joined by special UMC anti-reflective coating and they will all work together at cutting down optical flaws and at increasing the image quality.

Additionally, the lens comes with eight aperture blades, which will surely deliver beautiful bokeh and a shallow depth-of-field when opened at the maximum.

Samyang 50mm f/1.4 AS UMC lens is a perfect portrait lens with an aperture ring and a manual focus ring. Speaking of which, there is no autofocus support, so photographers will have to rely on manual focusing, as usual in a Samyang optic.

Samyang has confirmed that the lens has been designed to work with full frame cameras from Canon, Nikon, and Sony. However, the optic will be compatible with APS-C and Micro Four Thirds cameras, too.

The list of supported mounts includes Nikon F (FX and DX), Canon EF / EF-S / EF-M, Sony A / E, Pentax K, Fujifilm X, Samsung NX, Micro Four Thirds, and Four Thirds.

Samyang 50mm f/1.4 AS UMC lens measures 74.7mm in diameter and 81.6mm in length, while weighing around 535 grams. While its dimensions are identical to the cine version, this model is lighter by about 40 grams.

The company has revealed that the lens is coming by the end of September for a price of £419, which translates into $680.
