SanDisk has announced the first CFast 2.0 memory card in the world with reading speeds of up to 450MB/s and writing speeds of up to 350MB/s.

A few days ago, Lexar has introduced the world’s fastest 64GB microSDXC UHS-I card. Now, it is time for SanDisk to steal the spotlights with an even faster card, though they are parts of entirely different categories.

SanDisk announces world’s first CFast 2.0 card with 450MB/s reading speeds

Without further introduction, the SanDisk Extreme Pro CFast 2.0 card is now official and it is the first of its kind. For now, it is also the fastest as it sits alone in the CFast 2.0 segment. It is aimed at next-gen pro photography, videography, and broadcasting.

The company will manufacture this new card in two versions: 60GB and 120GB. Both of them will offer the same reading speeds of up to 450MB/s and writing speeds of up to 350MB/s. Their equivalents stand at 3000x and 2333x, respectively, which obliterate the 600x maximum found in 64GB microSDXC cards.

SanDisk Extreme Pro CFast 2.0 card to write 100GB file in just three minutes

These ultra-fast speeds will allow users to copy a 100GB file on the storage card in only three minutes. Conventional flash cards with up to 90MB/s writing speeds will take 20 minutes to fully transfer such a file.

This technology is useful for next-generation photography and film-making. Cameras will sport image sensors with more and more megapixels, while camcorders are already capable of shooting 4K videos.

Having such high-speed storage cards will allow the devices to transfer the files from their buffer to a SanDisk Extreme Pro CFast 2.0 card in a blink of an eye, thus saving precious time.

ARRI and Canon fully endorse the new CFast 2.0 standard

The world’s first CFast 2.0 memory card is backed up by important SanDisk partners. The list includes ARRI, Canon, and Codex, which will release products capable of supporting such fast storage units.

Canon welcomed the new SanDisk Extreme Pro CFast 2.0 card, saying that their future cameras will come packed with 4K ultra HD video recording support, though it failed to provide any more details.

The 60GB and 120GB CFast 2.0 cards will become available over the following days in the US and Europe, the manufacturer has revealed.
