Sigma 17-70mm f2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM / DC Macro HSM lens excels in macro photography.

Introducing the Contemporary line of lenses

Sigma stated that the 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM / DC Macro HSM is the first lens in the Contemporary line, now that the company is trying to organize its lenses into three segments: Art, Sports, and Contemporary.

The latest Sigma lens provides wide zoom range in a small and compact package, being about 30 percent smaller than Sigma’s regular models. The company is using a new material called Thermally Stable Composite, which supplies enhanced durability despite smaller scale rings.

Macro photography alongside telephoto

Sigma claims that the 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM / DC Macro HSM lens has a 22cm minimum focusing distance at 17mm, while the amount decreases to 5.52cm at maximum focusing distance (70mm). There is no need to change the lens when taking close-up photos.

This lens has been optimized to the point where chromatic aberration has been dramatically reduced using a special power alignment technique. There is no image quality compromise within the entire zoom range, thanks to a huge maximum aperture of F2.8 at 17mm and F4 at 70mm.

OS and HSM

The 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM / DC Macro HSM lens features an amazing optical stabilizer technology, which grants four-stop effective correction in order to improve the aforementioned macro photography technique. The drawback is that the Optical Stabilizer will not work in Sony and Pentax cameras, but it is supported by the rest.

Sigma’s improved Hyper Sonic Motor allows photographers to take photos faster, while the autofocus system does not make too much noise.

Software updates

Sigma claims that 17-70mm f/2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM / DC Macro HSM lens owners will be able to update the firmware through the new USB Dock and the Sigma Optimization Pro software.
