Sigma has accidentally announced the 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM Art lens for full frame cameras ahead of its proposed date.

Earlier in 2013, Sigma has amazed the world with an impressive 18-35mm f/1.8 lens for APS-C cameras. The optic provides a constant maximum aperture of f/1.8 and it delivers amazing image quality.

Sigma 24-105mm f/4 is a new lens for DSLR cameras from Canon, Nikon, Pentax, Sony, and Sigma.

Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM Art lens officially, but accidentally announced

The company continues its legacy with the launch of the Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM Art lens.

This optic has been quietly placed on the company’s website, hinting that it is actually an accidental launch and that the product should have been introduced at a later time.

Either way, it is coming and it is aimed at cameras from Sigma, Canon, Nikon, Sony, and Pentax.

Official lens construction details and measurements

Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG OS HSM Art lens will compete against the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS and the Nikon 24-120mm f/4G ED VR AF-S optics.

The Canon model is made out of 18 elements in 13 groups, while the Nikon one is constructed out of 17 elements in 13 groups. The former weighs 670 grams and the latter 710 grams.

On the other hand, the Sigma unit consists of 19 elements divided into 14 groups, nine rounded diaphragm blades, and a total weight of 885 grams.

The product measures 109.4mm in length and 88.6mm in diameter.

Maximum aperture can be maintained throughout the entire focal length range

The new Sigma zoom lens comes with AF/MF and OS ON/OFF switches, as well as a manual focus ring.

Its filter size is 82mm and its minimum focusing distance is 45 centimeters with a magnification rate of 1:4.6.

Although its aperture can be maintained at a maximum of f/4 throughout the zoom range, the minimum aperture is f/22 regardless of focal length.

Designed for full frame DSLRs, will work with APS-C cameras and film SLRs

Sigma has created this lens for full frame DSLRs. However, it will work just fine with APS-C sensors, too.

The “DG” designation means that APS-C shooters are supported and that the product will also be compatible with film SLRs, should you still have one of those lying around.

Amazon is selling the Nikon 24-120mm for $1,296.95 and the Canon 24-105mm for $1,109.48. This means that the Sigma model will be cheaper. All that is left is for the actual and official announcement to take place soon.
