Sigma reveals 24-35mm f/2 DG HSM Art wide-angle zoom lens

A unique lens was teased by Sigma’s leaders back in 2014. Speculation started at that point, but the guesses were way off. Now, we can put an end to all theories as the Sigma 24-35mm f/2 DG HSM Art lens has been unveiled officially.

This wide-angle zoom lens is said to be the world’s first of its kind to offer a constant maximum aperture of f/2 throughout its entire focal range.

The product will offer superior image quality, just like all other optics in the Art series. Thanks to its constant maximum aperture, it can be used as three different prime optics: a 24mm f/2, 28mm f/2, and 35mm f/2, says the company.

Sigma’s latest lens can be used for a broad range of photography types, including landscape, street, indoor, and portrait. It has a minimum focusing range of 28 centimeters and it promises to deliver beautiful, smooth bokeh.

The new wide-angle zoom lens employs 18 elements in 13 groups with one FLD (F Low Dispersion) element and seven SLD (Special Low Dispersion) elements.

The internal configuration includes a 9-blade rounded diaphragm and an inner focusing mechanism, the latter meaning that the front element does not rotate when focusing.

Sigma 24-35mm f/2 DG HSM Art lens features a Hyper Sonic Motor that will provide quick and quiet autofocusing. Zoom and focus rings are available on the optic along with a distance scale.

This product will be made in Japan and it will be be released for Canon, Nikon, and Sigma full-frame DSLRs. It measures 87.6mm / 3.4 inches in diameter, 122.7mm / 4.8 inches in length, while weighing 940 grams / 33.2 ounces.

For the time being, the company has not revealed the availability details of its optic. However, the release date and price information is expected to become official shortly, so stay tuned.
