Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art lens price revealed by Belarusian store

Featured Products

The official Sigma retailer in Belarus has revealed the price of the new Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM Art lens, following the recent rumors about its release date.

Sigma has been present at the Consumer Electronics Show 2014 where the Japanese corporation has announced two new lenses. The most exciting of the duo is the new 50mm f/1.4 lens which replaces an older version with an improved design and construction.

Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM Art lens has not received a price, nor a release date, yet. The reasons why the company is delaying this information is unknown, but the rumor mill has managed to capture some details through somewhat official channels.

Sigma 50mm f/1.4 price as seen at the company’s official retailer in Belarus.

According to the official Sigma retailer in Belarus, the new Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art lens price will be set at $790. Unfortunately, the price has been removed from the listing, but this is the internet and there are plenty of photos to prove it.

If this turns out to be true, then Sigma would hit the jackpot. Its bright prime lens competes against big names, such as the Zeiss Otus 55mm f/1.4, which are much more expensive.

Early testing has unearthed the fact that Sigma’s Art lens matches Zeiss’ Otus model in sharpness, while also overcoming its contrast. This is an important detail because the Otus costs more than $4,000 at Amazon.

Even if the reviews carried out by professionals reveal that the Art is slightly less sharper than Zeiss’ crown jewel, the most probable outcome would put Sigma in advantage.

Most photographers would not have a hard time getting a $800 lens which does a great job instead of purchasing a $4,000 one which is only a bit sharper than the cheaper option.

Sigma set to release its  50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM Art by the end of April

The release date of the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 EX DG HSM Art optic officially remains a mystery. However, unofficially, it seems like it has been set to occur by the end of April.

A company representative taking care of Sigma’s stand at a photography-related event in Birmingham, UK has told a visitor that the product will become available sometime in the next two months.

Considering the fact that the show has taken place at the beginning of March, the new lens will be pushed on the market this month or in April.

Sigma has not made any official comments regarding the allegations, but nobody has been expecting otherwise.

When it becomes available, the new Sigma 50mm f/1.4 Art lens will be compatible with Canon, Nikon, Sony, and Sigma full frame and APS-C cameras.

Beside the Zeiss Otus 55mm f/1.4, the Japan-based company will have to fend off competition like the Nikon 58mm f/1.4G and Sony 50mm f/1.4 Planar T* ZA SSM.
