Earlier in March 2014, the rumor mill has revealed that Sony will release the successor for the A-mount A77 camera in June 2014. The new shooter would be introduced sometime in May with a new set of features worthy of a replacement for the A77, sources have previously said.

Inside sources are back with more information, which says that the camera will become official on May 1 at the 2014 Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition taking place at the Somerset House in London, UK.

The 2014 SWPA Exhibition opens its doors on May 1. The Sony A77II camera is allegedly being unveiled on this date.

The Sony A77 has been around since the summer of 2011. This is a mid-range A-mount SLT (Single Lens Translucent) with an APS-C sensor which is sitting below the higher-end A99 featuring a full frame sensor.

Anonymous sources have been talking about a replacement throughout 2013 and even promised that it was coming sometime last year. However, an A77 successor has not been released, yet, instead being allegedly planned for a 2014 release date.

People familiar with the Japanese company’s affairs are claiming that they have found out the Sony A77II announcement date. According to them, it is set to take place during the 2014 Sony World Photography Awards Exhibition and most likely on the first day of the event: May 1.

Winner of the 2014 SWPA photo contest to be revealed during the exhibition

The 2014 SWPA Exhibition opens its doors on the first day of May and will keep the doors open until May 18. The gala is a special occasion to announce the winner of the 2014 SWPA photo contest.

The winners of the 10 categories have already been announced and they will each receive a Sony A6000 mirrorless interchangeable lens camera. However, an overall winner will be selected, too, and will receive a prize of $5,000.

The exhibition will feature the winning photos of all categories, including Youth, as well as the shots submitted by the photographers who have made it to the initial winners’ shortlist.

Rumored Sony A77II specs

Sony’s A77II camera is rumored to feature a very fast autofocus speed as well as a very quick image processor. A 32-megapixel APS-C image sensor will capture the shots and a zero-lag electronic viewfinder will be built-into the device.

It is unclear whether new A-mount lenses will be revealed and it would not be a surprise if they did. Taking this with a grain of salt would be a great idea, so do not jump to any conclusions for now.
