Sony will reveal a full frame camera to replace the A99, which will be called A99II, before the beginning of the Photokina 2014 fair.

One of the companies which has made the rounds of the rumor mill is Sony. The Japan-based manufacturer is allegedly working on several new cameras and lenses which will become official during a special event taking place sometime between August 22 and 28.

The products are scheduled for a late August announcement in order to be ready for the Photokina 2014, allowing the company to build some hype around the new shooters and optics.

Although this possibility has been mentioned in the past, the rumor mill is back at it and it seems like the Sony A99II camera will definitely be revealed by the end of this month with some interesting features.

Sony A99 is rumored to be replaced by the A99II in late August.

Sony A99II specs: 36.4-megapixel sensor, WiFi, and NFC, but no GPS

The possible Sony A99II specs list will allegedly include a full frame 36.4-megapixel sensor, which can already be found in the A7R, an E-mount camera with a full frame sensor.

The A99 replacement will remain an A-mount model and will be compatible with all optics in the series.

Unnamed sources are reporting that the Digital Single-Lens Translucent camera will also employ the quickest autofocus system in the world. The technology will be borrowed from the A6000 E-mount APS-C camera that is capable of focusing in only 0.06 seconds.

This full frame camera will also pack WiFi and NFC in order to allow smartphone and tablets owners to connect their devices to the A99II. However, GPS will not be added as Sony has apparently come to the conclusion that photographers are not interested in such functionality.

A price and more detailed specifications list have not been provided. Nevertheless, the announcement is coming very soon, therefore we do not have to wait for much longer.

About the Sony A99

Sony A99 is a DSLT camera launched in September 2012 along with a 24.3-megapixel full frame sensor. The maximum ISO stands at 25,600, allowing users to capture photos in poorly-lit conditions.

The shooter captures up to 10fps in burst mode and videos at full HD resolution. An electronic viewfinder is the way to frame the photos, but a 3-inch screen is helpful for the users who prefer the Live View mode.

The A99 is selling for a price around $2,300 at Amazon, although the price is expected to drop even further after the introduction of the A99II. Stick with us for more details!
