Sony is rumored to launch the long-expected 24-70mm f/2.8 G lens for FE-mount mirrorless cameras soon, as this product has just been listed on a company’s employee portal.

One of the best-selling mirrorless camera series in the world is Sony’s FE-mount. However, despite the fact that sales are going well, most photographers agree that the lens line-up is in need of a significant upgrade.

Delving deeper, one of the most requested FE-mount optics is the 24-70mm f/2.8, which is also one of the most popular focal ranges among Canon and Nikon users. Sony is offering a similar product, but it has a maximum aperture of only f/4, so speeding things up to f/2.8 would be a major improvement.

Well, the wait might be over soon, as a Sony FE 24-70mm /f2.8 G lens has just been spotted on the Sony Assist website, which is a system that allows the company’s employees to identify products and to learn more about them among other things, therefore an announcement could happen in the neighboring future.

Sony FE 24-70mm /f2.8 G lens rumored to be in works as well as on its way

Photographers using E-mount mirrorless cameras with full-frame image sensors (FE-mount) might have one less reason to complain about the lens line-up. If this source is correct, then a Sony FE 24-70mm /f2.8 G lens is on its way.

This is the Zeiss 24-70mm f/4 lens for Sony FE-mount mirrorless cameras. An f/2.8 is said to be in development.

The information is coming from someone with access to the Sony Assist website. As stated above, this is an official website of the Japanese company and only its employees can access it. The leaked screenshots appear to be legit, but we are not drawing any conclusions for the time being.

Although this optic may be real, it does not mean that it is coming out in the near future. Nevertheless, this Sony FE 24-70mm /f2.8 G lens rumor means that nobody will act surprised if the product actually becomes official within the next few months or so.

An actual picture of the lens cannot be seen on the website. However, what we have is its product number: SEL247028G. The code gives us its mount, focal length, maximum aperture, and the fact that it will offer a high image quality, thanks to its G-designation.

As for Sony, the manufacturer’s representatives have repeatedly said that they are looking at ways to improve the FE-system and that they are aware of the users’ demand for a 24-70mm lens with a maximum aperture of f/2.8.

While waiting for this baby to be unveiled by the PlayStation maker, FE-mount users can buy the Zeiss 24-70mm f/4 Vario-Tessar T* OSS lens from Amazon for a price around $2,000.
