Sony has announced the FE PZ 28-135mm f/4 G OSS lens, which has become the first full frame E-mount lens with built-in Power Zoom technology.

Its development was confirmed this spring. However, Sony has failed to give it a proper announcement so far. Thankfully, its time has finally come and the FE PZ 28-135mm f/4 G OSS lens is official as the first lens for full frame E-mount cameras that comes packed with Power Zoom support.

The new lens can be used by photographers, but the PlayStation maker says that this optic will become a “must have” for professional videographers.

Sony introduces its first Power Zoom lens for full frame E-mount cameras

Sony claims that serious filmmakers will have to use the new FE PZ 28-135mm f/4 G OSS lens in combination with the A7S FE-mount camera, which also records 4K videos with the help of an external recorder.

One of the most important features that enables the recording of high quality videos is called Smooth Motion Optics. This system fixes three problems, such as angle-of-view change when focusing, shifting focus when zooming, and optical axis movement when zooming.

The first Power Zoom lens for full frame E-mount cameras also features three rings, allowing users to control the zoom, the focus, and the aperture.

Sony FE PZ 28-135mm f/4 G OSS lens provides smooth and silent focus and zoom

Zooming and focusing will be done smoothly and silently, so professional videographers will surely love the Sony FE PZ 28-135mm f/4 G OSS lens.

Moreover, focusing is very accurate, as ensured by a double linear motor and users can instantly get into manual focus mode by rotating the aforementioned focus ring. The same double linear motor also makes sure that focus controls are very responsive.

Sony claims that this lens will offer a very high image quality. Aspherical elements and special coating technology will suppress optical flaws, even when the background is filled with strong lights.

This weathersealed lens will be released on the market in December

The new Sony FE PZ 28-135mm f/4 G OSS lens is pretty heavy as its total weight stands at 2 lbs 11 oz / 1.21kg. It is a weather-resistant product, so dust and moisture will not affect it at all.

The optic offers a constant maximum aperture of f/4, which is always a nice feature to have. Additionally, the lens comes with built-in optical image stabilization technology.

Its price will stand at about $2,500, when it becomes available this December. Only the buyers will decide whether this is expensive or not and, just for them, Amazon has put up a pre-order link.
