The Sony FE PZ 28-135mm f/4G OSS lens has been spotted at a product launch event in Japan, hinting that the optic could get a proper announcement soon.

Sony unveiled the A77 II A-mount camera with an APS-C image sensor at the beginning of May 2014. The company has also taken the time to update its FE-mount roadmap by adding two new lenses to the mix: the Zeiss FE 16-35mm f/4 ZA OSS and Sony FE PZ 28-135mm f/4 G OSS.

Both of them are currently official, but neither has been a part of an announcement event. However, Sony has decided to organize a show in Japan in order to introduce the A7S, RX100 III, and A77 II in the company’s home country. Only one of the aforementioned optics has been present: the Sony FE PZ 28-135mm f/4 G OSS lens.

A prototype of the Sony FE PZ 28-135mm f/4G OSS lens has been spotted at a special event in Japan.

While the Zeiss FE 16-35mm f/4 ZA OSS model is still eluding our sight, the prototype of the 28-135mm f/4 model has been spotted during a special event in Japan, as stated above.

However, the PlayStation maker has not revealed any technical aspects of the product. Thankfully, its name is telling us what we can expect from it: this is a lens for E-mount mirrorless cameras with full frame image sensors and it offers a constant maximum aperture of f/4 throughout its focal range.

Furthermore, it comes packed with built-in Optical SteadyShot technology. The image stabilization system will compensate for camera shakes and will prevent blur from appearing in your photos.

Last but not least, the Power Zoom designation means that the zoom can be controlled electronically, which is useful when recording videos. Zooming will be quiet and smooth, so it could be offered as a kit for the A7S.

Up to 15 FE-mount lenses to become available by mid-2015

Another important thing that is worth mentioning is the fact that Sony will offer up to 15 FE-mount lenses by mid-2015.

The rumor mill has previously said that 14 FE-mount optics will be “official” by the end of 2014. We can assume that a lot of optics will be announced at the Photokina 2014 and some of them will have their release dates set for early 2015.

It is unknown whether new lenses will be unveiled this summer or if Sony will leave it all for the Photokina 2014, so stay tuned to find out!
