Sony’s upcoming E-mount full frame camera is rumored to look more like the RX1 rather than a conventional NEX shooter.

The first NEX full frame camera in the world is said to be announced this October. The camera will come packed with a 35mm-type sensor and will support all the E-mount interchangeable lenses, including the APS-C ones which will function in crop mode.

Sony RX1 is a full frame camera with a fixed-lens. The upcoming NEX-FF shooter will allow users to switch lenses and rumor says that it will also borrow the looks of the RX1.

Sony NEX full frame camera to look like  and be as silent as the RX1

Previously, it has been believed that the Sony NEX-FF camera will be a regular “NEX” with a retrofitted full frame sensor. However, recent gossip talks about the fact that the device will look and behave more like the RX1.

The full frame compact camera with a fixed-lens is a pretty quiet shooter. Meanwhile, products found in the NEX series are not exactly known for their stealthiness. This would be a major advantage for photographers who prefer a silent device.

The Sony E-mount FF camera is said to sport the same size as the RX1. The NEX mount will look pretty much the same, but it is said to feature several extra lens contacts.

It remains to be seen how the company is planning to make the shooter accept older lenses. Nevertheless, if it is possible to launch a lens with a built-in image sensor, then the PlayStation maker should not encounter any problems in making older optic compatible with such camera.

Zeiss to launch 35mm f/2.8 and 55mm f/1.8 full frame lenses

Speaking of the lenses, at least two prime optics will become available along with the Sony NEX-FF and both will be made by Zeiss. The 35mm f/2.8 and 55mm f/1.8 are said to be certainties, while the 85mm f/1.8 could complete the trifecta.

Additionally, two zoom lenses will be launched by Sony, but their focal ranges remain to be determined at a later time.

So, when is this supposed to happen?

The Sony E-mount full frame camera and lenses will be unveiled this October. Sources seem convinced that they will all be launched by the end of this year, meaning that there is not much time left to wait.

Still, this is just the first batch of devices. Nikon is offering a cheap full frame camera, therefore Sony will provide a less expensive shooter to compete against the D600 in the near future.

As usual, the details do not go further and no evidence is provided, so fans are entitled to be doubtful about their accuracy. Meanwhile, the Sony RX1 and the RX1R are available at Amazon for $2,798 each.
