The Sony DSC-QX10 and DSC-QX100 lens-camera modules are rumored to feature the “Smart Shot” branding and new photos and specs have been leaked on the web.

Sony’s upcoming lens-camera devices are some of the most discussed subjects of recent times. They are rumored to be announced on September 4 at the IFA Berlin 2013 show where they will meet the public for the first time.

There are a couple of days left until the launch event, meaning that the rumor mill has enough time to leak even more information about the innovative modules. If you were waiting for this, then you will be happy to know that more Sony DSC-QX10 and DSC-QX100 photos and details are now available.

Sony QX10 to feature 18MP sensor and 25-250mm zoom lens

According to inside sources, the Sony QX10 specs will include a 10x optical zoom lens, providing a 35mm equivalent of 25-250mm. The maximum aperture will range between f/3.3 and f/5.9 depending on the selected focal length.

The company will add an 18-megapixel 1/2.3-inch-type backlit Exmor R CMOS image sensor into the lens with high performance in dark environments, far exceeding the one of a smartphone.

Sony’s device will sport built-in WiFi and NFC, which will be compatible with iPhone and Android smartphones. This means that photographers will be able to use the mobile devices as viewfinders so that they can frame their shots.

The good thing is that users will not be forced to attach the QX10 to a phone. They will have the possibility to use it in hand or it can be mounted on a tripod, while the photos can be recorded in the built-in memory or on the smartphones.

The Sony QX10 will capture full HD movies at 30 frames per second in MP4 format. When it becomes available, it will cost about $250.

Sony QX100 to be an RX100 II camera without the body

On the other hand, the Sony QX100 specs will be very similar to the ones of the new RX100 II compact camera. It features a 1-inch 20.2-megapixel sensor with Zeiss 28-100mm f/1.8-4.9 lens (35mm equivalent).

It connects to a smartphone via WiFi or NFC and it can store photos within its memory, just like its smaller sibling. It also has a tripod mount, can record 1920 x 1080p videos, and it offers improved low-light performance.

Using a mobile phone, photographers can set the aperture, exposure, white balance, zoom, and focus. It will become available for $450 soon, while the RX100 II costs $748 at Amazon.

Sony QX10 and QX100 to retail under “Smart Shot” branding

Beside the new details, even more Sony QX10 and QX100 photos have been leaked online. It appears that the former will become available in multiple color options, while the latter will come only in a black flavor.

Nevertheless, both of them will bear “Smart Shot” branding. The name comes from combining the “smartphone” and “CyberShot” tags.

Everything will be announced in less than 48 hours therefore curious minds should stay tuned to get all the information.
