The Sony RX2 rumors have returned, as the PlayStation maker is expected to hold a product launch event on April 23, which may also include the introduction of an A-mount camera.

The Sony World Photography Awards 2015 gala will take place between April 22 and April 24 at the Somerset House in London, UK. During last year’s edition, Sony announced the A77II A-mount camera, while another product launch event will take place this year.

The announcement will occur on April 23 and the rumor mill has previously said that the manufacturer may reveal another A-mount shooter during the 2015 World Photography Awards.

The most recent gossip talks to surface on the web are stating that there will be no new E-mount / FE-mount products at the event. However, the same thing cannot be said about the RX and A-mount series. As a result, the Sony RX2 rumors are back along with rumors of an RX20, A99II, and A58II cameras.

Sony RX1R could be finally replaced by the RX2, a compact camera sporting a revolutionary image sensor that is curved.

2015 World Photography Awards could hold the launch event of the Sony RX2

Sony officially announced the RX1 and RX100 premium compact cameras in 2012. They were replaced by the RX1R and the RX100 II in 2013, while the latter was substituted again in 2014 by the RX100 III.

During all this time, the company has patented curved sensors, including a full frame unit, while claiming that the technology is ready for prime time. The RX2 was supposed to come out in 2014 with a curved full frame sensor, but it seems like the model is actually set to be released in 2015.

Its megapixel count is unknown as well as its lens. However, the latter will not consist of a 35-70mm f/2.8, like suggested in a previous rumor, as the most likely candidate is a Zeiss-branded 35mm f/1.8 lens.

This camera is rumored to become official on April 23, but do not hold your breath over it for the time being.

Sony RX10 replacement, called RX20 or RX10 II, might be revealed, too

Another possible camera is the RX20. The RX10 has been launched as a bridge camera, but its momentum has been shattered by the Panasonic FZ1000, which offers better features and 4K video recording at smaller costs.

This means that the RX10 must be replaced by an enhanced RX20, which might be called RX10 II. Meanwhile, Amazon is selling the Sony RX10 for about $1,000. A price drop may occur soon if a replacement is indeed nearing, so you may want to keep an eye out on RX10’s listing.

April 23 may bring a new flagship A-mount camera to the masses

If the RX2 and RX20 / RX10 II do not come, then we will most likely see a new A-mount camera. Sony has been rumored before to launch such model on April 23, therefore this will not be a total surprise.

We have heard through the grapevine that the possible cameras are the A99II and the A58II. The A77II has small chances of being replaced, as it was launched in 2014, while the others are much older.

The lower-end A58 camera was previously presumed dead, while the A99 continues to be the flagship and it is in dire need of a successor. It would be great to see the A99II being unveiled at the 2015 World Photography awards, especially if it comes with a 50-megapixel sensor.
