Sony is rumored to announce at least two new RX-series cameras, one with a full frame sensor and another one with a smaller sensor, sometime around Photokina 2014.

The digital imaging world is readying for world’s greatest event of the industry. The Photokina 2014 is on its way and companies must put on a great show, as another edition will take place two years after the 2014 one.

Sony is a company which is rumored to be working on a slew of new products. Several E-mount cameras with full frame and APS-C sensors are believed to be unveiled soon accompanied by a bunch of lenses.

Additionally, the PlayStation maker is developing new A-mount shooters, including the Sony A77II, which will replace the Sony A77. Although evidence is rather scarce, there are reasons to believe that the flagship A-mount camera, Sony A99, is getting replaced in 2014, too.

Sony RX100 Mark II and RX1R compact cameras are rumored to be replaced in the following months, most likely around the Photokina 2014.

We have covered the aforementioned rumors in the past, but there is room for one more. According to sources familiar with the matter, a couple of new Sony RX cameras are under development and they will be announced in the following months.

Although it does not specifically say so, it seems like the Sony RX1 and Sony RX100 series are getting replaced.

This includes the RX1R and the RX100 II, both launched in 2013. The former has substituted the RX1, featuring similar functions except for the image sensor which does not feature an anti-aliasing filter.

On the other hand, the RX100 Mark II adds a new 20.2-megapixel 1-inch-type sensor, WiFi, NFC, and a tilting screen when compared to the original RX100.

The two upcoming cameras could be referred to as Sony RX2 and Sony RX200, though we should wait for more information before jumping into conclusions.

Sony will replace only the RX1 and RX100 series, as the RX10 has just been launched

The gap between the RX1 and RX100 series has been bridged in fall 2013 courtesy of the Sony RX10.

This bridge camera sports a 20.2-megapixel sensor with a 24-200mm lens. It is great for travel photographers who want to carry a small, yet powerful camera in their bag during their vacation.

Since it has been released rather recently, there are little chances that a so-called Sony RX10 Mark II or Sony RX20 will replace it.

Either way, we already know to never say never as the Photokina 2014 will certainly be full of surprises. Meanwhile, stay tuned for more information!
