Sony is rumored to announce a replacement for the RX10, which will be called RX20, this October. The bridge camera will record 4K videos in order to have a better chance at competing against the Panasonic FZ1000.

There used to be a lot of room between the RX1 and RX100 series. Sony bridged the gap with the help of the RX10 in October 2013. There are signs that the camera has been received well by the consumers, but Panasonic stole the show in June 2014 with the introduction of the FZ1000.

The main advantages of the FZ1000 over the RX10 are a more extended zoom, 4K video recording support, and a very attractive price tag. The latter has also forced the PlayStation maker to drop the price of the RX10.

Either way, it appears that the Sony RX20 is already in the works and will be announced as soon as October 2014.

Sony RX10 camera will be replaced by the RX20 in October. The new model will be capable of recording videos at 4K resolution.

Sony RX20 specs list to include 4K video recording and XAVC-S codec support

With the RX10 unveiled in October 2013, it would make sense for the company to reveal its successor around the same period this year. Before the purported product launch event, the Sony RX20 specs have been leaked on the web.

The bridge camera will feature the same 20.2-megapixel 1-inch-type sensor and the same 8.8-73.3mm lens, which will provide a 35mm equivalent of 24-200mm and a constant maximum aperture of f/2.8 throughout the zoom range.

The most important addition consists of 4K video recording support. This way, the RX20 will become a true competitor for the Panasonic FZ1000.

Moreover, the RX10 replacement will support XAVC-S codec, so the quality of the videos will be very high. On the other hand, full HD video will be recorded at 60fps, while 720p videos will be captured at 120fps.

Finally, it must be said that the S-Log2 support, found in the Sony A7S, will not be added to the RX20.

Sony RX20 price tag to stand at $1,300

The unnamed source has had something to say about the design of the Sony RX20. It appears that the design of the upcoming bridge camera will be slightly improved over its predecessor in order to become more ergonomic.

The release date of the shooter has not been mentioned, but its price will stand at around $1,300. Additionally, the RX10 will continue to be available, but will get a price reduction of about $100-$200.

Currently, Amazon is selling the RX10 for a little under $1,000, while the Panasonic FZ1000 is available for around $900. In the meantime, stay tuned for more information!
