Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 Di VC USD lens becomes official

Tamron has announced the development of a new wide-angle zoom lens for full frame DSLRs in the body of the 15-30mm f/2.8 Di VC USD.

Being one of the most popular third-party lens makers means that you need to have something to show your fans at the world’s largest digital imaging event.

Tamron could not have missed the Photokina 2014 opportunity, so the company is announcing the development of the 15-30mm f/2.8 Di VC USD, which is said to be the first in its group to offer image stabilization technology.

Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 Di VC USD lens will offer a constant maximum aperture throughout the zoom range, image stabilization technology, and a very high image quality.

Most photographers know Tamron thanks to its incredible superzoom lenses. Nevertheless, the company is also making some very good optics with a maximum aperture of f/2.8, such as the 24-70mm f/2.8, 70-200mm f/2.8, and the 90mm f/2.8 Macro.

The next step in the evolution of the series is the Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 Di VC USD lens. The manufacturer is claiming that this is the first optic in its category to come packed with an image stabilization technology.

Fast wide-angle do not usually require an IS feature, but the Vibration Compensation technology will be surely appreciated by full frame DSLR camera owners.

This time, Tamron has really focused on image quality. The SP 15-30mm f/2.8 Di VC USD lens comes with 18 elements in 13 groups, including eXpanded Glass Molded (XGM) aspherical element and multiple Low-Dispersion elements.

Distortions and chromatic aberrations are kept to a minimum, while ghosting and flare are kept under control thanks to the Broad-Band Anti-Reflection (BBAR) and the eBAND coatings.

Everything is topped by a fluorine coating placed on the front element, repelling water and dirt, while allowing users to easily clean off the mess.

A bulky, heavy lens aimed at full frame DSLR cameras

The Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 Di VC USD lens employs an Ultrasonic Silent Drive, which makes sure that autofocusing is done quietly and accurately.

Although it is a wide-angle lens, the company is claiming that its upcoming optic will be able to provide beautiful bokeh and defocused backgrounds, thanks to the fast and constant maximum aperture of f/2.8.

This product measures about 145mm / 5.7-inches, while weighing 1.1 kg / 2.4 lbs. It will be released in Nikon, Sony, and Canon mounts, but the release date and price details are a secret for the time being.
