The Japanese lens manufacturer will be hosting its travel photo contest again, exclusively for the U.S, with the help of the same online interactive 3D gallery MyPhotoExhibits, used in previous years.

The contest will feature photographs shot using Tamron lenses exclusively, uploaded on the company’s unique art-gallery-style website. Entrants lacking access to a computer or Internet can also join in by sending their photos via old-fashioned mail.

Tamron’s approach to traditional online display

MyPhotoExhibits is Tamron’s alternative to generic gallery browsing, specifically created for the “My Travel Exhibit” contest. After uploading a set of 8 to 14 photographs, users can organize them starting with the order in which each image is displayed inside a 3D virtual space. Names and captions can be added along with further personalization of the gallery’s design. Users can modify the room’s lighting, add frames to their photos and even change the wall and floor colors and textures.

Further playing upon the art-gallery theme, MyPhotoExhibits can notify users’ friends when a gallery “opens”, through e-mail or social media platforms, like Facebook. Visitors can sign the photographer’s guestbook and choose favorite exhibits, reads Tamron’s press release.

MyPhotoExhibits is also mobile-friendly with the help of a free app, available at iTunes and Google Play stores.

Judging this year’s entries – Kevin Gilligan

Professional photographer Kevin Gillian has developed his visual education in the great outdoors, starting with a love of surfing and the ocean. Born in New York’s Long Island, he currently lives in L.A.’s South Bay, still photographing beaches and water landscapes alongside an eclectic portfolio of portrait and sports photography. His work has been printed in U.S. magazines and papers. In 2012, Laguna Art Museum published his series featuring Victor Hugo Zayas’s gun sculptures.

The winner will choose his or her prize

Originality and all-around image quality will be the deciding factors in choosing an entry, according to Kevin Gilligan. The winning gallery will be featured on Tamron USA’s website and in its eNewsletter. The winner will choose his or her prize between seven Tamron lenses:
