Tamron officially announces the SP 15-30mm f/2.8 Di VC USD wide-angle zoom lens

There are no major changes between the details revealed at Photokina 2014 and the ones published today. The Tamron SP 15-30mm f/2.8 Di VC USD lens employs an internal design made out of 18 elements in 13 groups.

The XGM element, already-touted at the world’s largest digital imaging event, is located in the front group. Its name stands for eXpanded Glass Molded Aspherical and it should correct distortion as well as color aberration.

This optic is the first in its class to come with Vibration Compensation technology, the company’s proprietary image stabilization system. Combined with the f/2.8 aperture, it will allow users to capture photos in low-light conditions without a tripod.

The wide-angle zoom lens offers a constant maximum aperture of f/2.8 throughout its focal range. Using the aperture at the maximum setting will add impressive bokeh to your photos.

A fluorine coating covers the front element in order to make it easier to clean by repelling dirt and dust.

The lens hood provides shade in order to prevent flaring, while the Ultrasonic Silent Drive is the autofocus motor that will provide smooth and silent autofocus.
