Tokina has been present at Photokina 2014 in order to reveal the prototypes of the AT-X 11-20mm f/2.8 PRO DX and AT-X 24-70mm f/2.8 PRO FX lenses.

A lot of time has passed since the last time Tokina has been active. Well, the manufacturer could not have missed the world’s largest digital imaging trade fair, so it has displayed the prototypes of two optics in Cologne, Germany.

The company is proposing two new lenses, which are currently in development and are still waiting for their official announcements. The two models are the AT-X 11-20mm f/2.8 PRO DX for cameras with APS-C sensors and the AT-X 24-70mm f/2.8 PRO FX for full frame cameras.

The 11-16mm f/2.8 unit is getting a little old, so the company must replace it with a newer model. The solution has been found in the body of the Tokina AT-X 11-20mm f/2.8 PRO DX lens, which will offer a constant maximum aperture throughout the zoom range.

This wide-angle optic will provide a 35mm equivalent of about 16-30mm, when it finally hits the market. Its optical design includes aspherical and low dispersion elements, that are meant to increase the optical quality by reducing chromatic aberrations.

Additionally, the lens employs an internal focus design, meaning that the front element does not rotate when focusing. Unfortunately, Tokina has not provided anymore details, so the full specs list, release date, and price are unknown for the time being.

The second model is the Tokina AT-X 24-70mm f/2.8 PRO FX lens. This one is aimed at DSLR cameras with full frame sensors. Another prototype of this product has been shown at the CP+ Camera & Photo Imaging Show 2014, but it has not been released, yet.

Once again, the company has failed to hand out any launch details, but now we can be almost sure that this lens will make it into the market sometime in the following months.

The optical construction includes aspherical and low dispersion elements, just like the one found in the AT-X 11-20mm f/2.8 PRO DX. Another similarity with its sibling is the presence of an internal focusing system.

As stated above, an official launch is months away, so do not hold your breath over these two lenses, whether you are drooling over that constant maximum aperture of f/2.8 or not.
