Two Canon big-megapixel DSLR versions to come in Q1 2015

Canon is now rumored to announce two versions of its high-megapixel camera, one of them which could turn out to be a Cinema EOS version that could capture videos at 4K resolution.

The chatter surrounding the big-megapixel Canon DSLR has intensified in recent times after the company has failed to deliver such product at the Photokina 2014 event.

Thankfully, there are other shows taking place at the beginning of 2015 and inside sources are tirelessly working on gathering more information.

It has been said that the manufacturer is developing two DSLRs with multi-layer sensors, which are coming in 2015. One of them will replace the EOS 1D X and will not have a high-resolution sensor. However, the other model is said to employ a high-resolution sensor.

Shortly after leaking these details, the rumor mill is back with even more tidbits, this time claiming that the high-resolution camera will actually be released in two versions.

The Canon 1D C is the Cinema EOS version of the Canon 1D X. The company could also release a Cinema version of its upcoming high-resolution camera.

A couple of Canon big-megapixel DSLR versions could be announced early next year

The multi-layer sensor has not been mentioned this time. Nevertheless, the Canon big-megapixel DSLR will be released sometime during the first quarter of 2015. Two versions of the same model are coming, but it is highly unlikely that Canon will follow the same path as Nikon with its D800 series.

There are a couple of possibilities for the second unit. The company could choose to introduce a Cinema EOS shooter of the DSLR model. It will feature similar specs, but everything will be optimized for videography.

Furthermore, the Cinema unit could be capable of recording 4K videos, a feature that is getting seemingly more important with each passing day and which could put Canon ahead of Nikon once again, when it comes to video tools.

Could a new Canon astronomy DSLR be on its way?

If the Cinema EOS option does not turn out to be true, then there is a second solution. Canon may well launch a new “astronomy” model, which will be specifically tweaked for astrophotography purposes.

This is also a valid choice because the company has done things like this in the past. The list includes the 20Da and the 60Da, the latter being released in 2012.

It would be interesting to see the Japanese manufacturer launching yet another astronomy DSLR, but we should not jump into conclusions for now.

Finally, it is worth noting that the source says that the prices will not be in the $8,000-$9,000 range, as each camera will most likely have a price tag around $4,000. Stay tuned for more details!
