Romanian-born photographer Alecsandra Raluca Dragoi is the author of a striking portrait series in which random people pose with a sign that reads their biggest regrets.

People often forget about things they did in the past. However, there are lots of people who have something that keeps them awake at night. A Romanian photographer living in London has set on a quest to meet random strangers in order to ask them what is their biggest regret and to have them write it down as well as to pose with it. Alecsandra Raluca Dragoi has posted the results under the “Which Is Your Biggest Regret?” project that comprises the confessions of random folks.

Striking portraits of people holding up the answer to “Which Is Your Biggest Regret?” question

The London-based photographer draws her inspiration from Gillian Wearing, who created the “Signs” series consisting of portraits of people holding up signs with the things that they want to say instead of things that someone else wants them to say.

However, the execution is different as well as the question. The artist said that she was driven by the idea of communicating with strangers, while the question was chosen because she felt that she could help people get things off their chest.

The outcome is now official and it is titled “Which Is Your Biggest Regret?” on Alecsandra Raluca Dragoi’s website. Thanks to this series, the artist says that she has managed to “have a profound connection” with the subjects and that she is grateful for meeting “kind people” along the way.

The artist admits that some subjects have decided not to share their biggest regret because it was “too personal”, which is an understandable reason. However, most of them decided to reveal their remorse, which made them “feel free”.
