Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2014 winners announced

The National History Museum has announced that Michael Nichols is the Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2014, courtesy of an amazing photo of lions resting in the Serengeti National Park, Tanzania.

Chances are that your computer wallpaper falls into the wildlife photography category. One of the reasons for that is because wildlife is beautiful as mother nature is always producing stunning views.

As a result, there are lots of photo contests seeking for nature’s best scenes. One of the most prestigious wildlife photography contests is organized by the Natural History Museum in London, UK.

In 2014, the competition has returned and the NHM has recently revealed the winners of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2014 edition. The “Grand Title” has been awarded to American photographer Michael “Nick” Nichols.

You do not even have to look at the other photos to see that Michael Nichols deserves the award. The Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2014 has captured a stunning scene of lions resting on a rock somewhere in the Serengeti National Park located in Tanzania.

The photographer says that he has followed this pride of lions for about six months. As a result, the big cats were used to Nick, who managed to get really close and take their photos.

Michael “Nick” Nichols has initially won the “Black and White” category. His image combines “graphic strength and tonal range”, proving that they are more important than colors.

8-year-old grabs the Young Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2014 award

The young category of the photo contest has been won by Carlos Perez Naval. The 8-year-old photographer has captured a beautiful scorpion grasping the last rays of the sunset.

The scorpion has brought the Young Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2014 award to Carlos Perez Naval, who has captured the winning shot somewhere around his Spanish hometown.

Sir David Attenborough attended the 50th edition of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year contest

This is the 50th edition of the Wildlife Photographer of the Year organized by the National History Museum. Numerous important people have been present at the awards ceremony, including the Duchess of Cambridge and Sir David Attenborough.

The Wildlife Photographer of the Year contest will return as of January 5 next year, so make sure you are ready to enter the competition!
