Win a 16×20” Stand Out Mount Print from Color Inc.

It is no secret that I LOVE Color Inc Pro Lab’s printing.  I have used them for years, but never really ventured out to products other than e-surface prints until recently. If you are wanting to venture out to, read on for details on how you can enter to win one of 3 Stand Out Mount Prints!

I had some silhouettes I took in Northern Michigan recently (you may remember me asking you to vote on your favorites). And I wanted to get them printed.  I did not want to do gallery wrap canvases.  I wanted something fun and different.

I decided to go with Stand Out Mounted Prints. I tried 3 different surfaces. As shown below.

This 1st one is now hanging on a wall in my house.  The print is on canvas – but instead of a gallery wrap, it has a stand out mount.  The pricing was around $50 for a 16×20, so super reasonable. This style of “canvas” is also great if you cropped in too close and do not have room for the wrap.

Next up, I wanted to try their pearl finish.  LOVED it – it took to the vibrant colors beautifully as you can see.  Excuse the crooked product shot. I will be ordering more prints with this finish in the future.

And lastly, their standard print mounted on the “stand out.” Loved this too. Now what lucky relatives may be getting one of the two I did not hang for a present sometime… Wonder if my parents or in-laws are reading the blog today…

What makes you as a photographer stand out? ME. No one else sees the world the way I do and I (and my clients) love that!

  2. Danyll Epps on August 4, 2009 at 9:10 am

    1. I think my use of color makes my photography stand out. I love color….fresh and vibrant. I recently heard that from a client that was referred and she said, “my friend said that you are great with color”.2. What makes me as a photographer stand out? That’s a little harder to answer. Maybe that I just love to have fun and I want my clients to do the same thing. I want them to feel as if they’ve just been hanging out with me at a shoot…no pressure…just fun! Thanks again, Jodi, for another great contest!

  3. Jeanine Krupp on August 4, 2009 at 9:10 am

Hmmm, I wish I knew the answer to what makes me stand out as a photographer! What I want it to be is that I strive to show connections and emotions in my pictures. I love catching an interaction between subjects or between a subject and nature, their thoughts, etc. This post came at a good time. I have some Michigan sunsets that I plan on printing soon, thanks for the reminder about ColorInc (love supporting a MI company!). I’m going to go for standouts now!

  4. Riz Crescini on August 4, 2009 at 9:15 am

    1) People have told me that I like to tell a story with my photography. So, I try to capture the spirit of the moment with my photography.2) I’m definitely a goof ball and my goofiness allows my clients (especially here in Japan) to be more relaxed. Thanks, Jodi!

  5. Nekane Erro Owens on August 4, 2009 at 9:15 am

I’m so new it’s hard to say. I think it’s my love of getting sharp pictures and contrasty b&w.Thanks Jodi! You’re the best!!!!

  6. Kellie on August 4, 2009 at 9:15 am

what makes my photography stand out is the vibrant colours. i love saturating colours almost to the point of being overdone (sometimes i even do that for fun :P).

  7. Johanna on August 4, 2009 at 9:18 am

I am always drawn to close-ups and backs. I love the eyes and will not miss an opportunity to move in very close. I’m an in camera cropper as well which often gets me in trouble when I need to do a canvas wrap! (I’m working on that!) As for the backs – I suppose if you looked at all my personal images of my children, you would see a very large percentage of them where they are .not. facing the camera. I think that perspective is important because it isn’t obtrusive and doesn’t call for any forced reactions. It’s real. Not sure if any of this actually makes me “stand out”, but it’s part of my style, and it’s something that just happens when I pick up a camera and start shooting!

  8. Julie on August 4, 2009 at 9:21 am

I think as a photography I stand out due to the fact that i’m fun and up for anything..I like to bring my to older boys who are somewhat of my assistants and they can be quite funny, which helps my subjects laugh due to the fact they don’t always no what their doing. I like to think my photography stands out becasue it’s a part of who i am..

  9. terry geerdts- A Pretty Pixel on August 4, 2009 at 9:25 am

what makes my photography stand out….I love to get interaction with my subjects. I like when you can see deep into them … so I like to take shots where they are looking directly at me. I like adding in textures and cross processing – so my post production is a big part of my finished look too. Light is very important and I feel it also adds a lot to my photography. I use both natural light and strobes. My tag line really sums it all up. Life=Art. It’s what A Pretty Pixel is all about.

  10. Beth Kraenzlein on August 4, 2009 at 9:27 am

I am a little different then most photographers. I shoot sports. I could see some of my sports shots on any one of these types of prints. “What makes me “stand out” …….Parents can watch their child/children play they dont have to worry about getting the action shot from the stands I am there.

  11. Kim on August 4, 2009 at 9:39 am

What makes me different? Hmm.. not sure I can truthfully answer that because I am so tough on myself and my work.. I can say that others say it is my eye for the tiny details.. I am sooo crossing my fingers for this!!! Good luck to everyone.

  12. Alicia on August 4, 2009 at 9:39 am

What makes my photography stand out is my relationship to my subjects.I used to dance, act, write, edit, teach… My life was full with things I “did.” Now, home alone all day with my toddler twins and infant, my life is full with what I have. Photography is the only hobby I have time for; it’s truly the only thing I do for myself. I have channeled so much energy into capturing my life with my three little ones, and I think that shows in my work. I love my children desperately, and I love the details and quirks of them. I long to show them, one day, all the fun we had together; and the sheer enormity of our early life together. I think this is what makes my work stand out more than anything else–the thousands of little details and quirks and moments photography has allowed me capture and hold onto. To clarify, it is these quirks that I find so fantastically endearing, and that I do my best to make permanent; because I know that each one has such a short lifespan.Jodi–I can’t thank you enough for your site and blog. You have helped me enormously, and I am very, very grateful. Thank you!

  13. Tonee on August 4, 2009 at 9:49 am

    1. My clients come to me because…. so they say…. I have “fun” images. I tend to take a unique approach with my clients, I MAKE them smile because I’m so goofy.2. I love a different perspective. I lay on spikey weeds to look up at clients, I lay in dangerous hiways….. (okay desolate roads but STILL!) I don’t like the borind straight on angles, and have had to put in my policies that angles and odd crops are “ME” because I’ve had some traditional people say, ew I hate that angle, can you straighten it? Uhm, no…. because that’s me…. tilted.

  14. Hope Jeffcoat on August 4, 2009 at 9:51 am

I think what makes me stand out is that I capture the person, not the pose. I love the boy with the big huge smile and 4 missing teeth or the little girly girl who loves to twirl in circles…. I also have a thing for shooting feet–from tiny toes to girly toenails…Thanks Jodi (and the twins) 🙂

  15. Susan P on August 4, 2009 at 10:08 am

i think my journalistic nature in capturing the ordinary moments that others wouldn’t normally think to catch makes my photography stand out.

  16. Bernadette on August 4, 2009 at 10:11 am

I think what makes my work stand out (or I hope!) is my sense of humor when capturing pets & kids. I love to laugh and make others laugh…I try to bring part of MY personality to my shoots! Awesome giveaway!!

  17. Amanda Reimer on August 4, 2009 at 10:12 am

I just do photog on the side – but I think my standout is not forgetting the details. Little things that you don’t think to photograph, but when you look back, it can recall the moment too.

  18. Emily on August 4, 2009 at 10:17 am

I’m primarily a nature photographer, and people tell me they look at my photos to see where they want to go on vacation! I love this giveaway and I hope I win!

  19. Jenny Esterbrook on August 4, 2009 at 10:18 am

I like the goofy and random. I guess that’s what makes my pictures special to me anyway!

  20. Christi on August 4, 2009 at 10:18 am

I’m a hobbyist, and what makes my pictures stand out is the subject. My kids are too cute, lol. I don’t have Mommy goggles or anything.

  21. Gayle Vehar on August 4, 2009 at 10:24 am

I am still figuring this out, but my in gut I would say my sharpness, color, and capturing people as they are.

  22. Erin Jensen on August 4, 2009 at 10:25 am

I think I stand out because when my clients come to me they are nervous. I make the feel at ease, comfortable and before we are done they all say that they had a blast! I also think that my vibrant colors after post processing keeps them coming back! Thanks for such a great giveaway!

  23. Amanda on August 4, 2009 at 10:31 am

I just wanted to comment to say that the people at Color Inc. are awesome to deal with and I know whoever wins will agree! They sent a hand-written post card. Hello Warm Fuzzies! I know it’s a little thing, but I L.O.V.E. that kind of service from a supplier.

  24. Kristi Crosson on August 4, 2009 at 10:42 am

As a photographer I stand out because I am an individual with emotions, creativity, and love for others. I like to have fun, enjoy life, and capture incredible moments with the camera. My photography does not define me, I define my photography. I know that I do not stand out because of my photography, my photography stands out because of me. In my interactions with people, I seek to help them relax and enjoy one another. And then I capture that moment on “film”. I like to capture an emotion. As a wedding photographer, I want my brides to see the love in their and their husbands eyes as they met at the altar. I want them to remember not only what they looked like in that moment but how they felt.

  25. Kelly on August 4, 2009 at 10:54 am

I think my urban style makes me stand out.

  26. Pam on August 4, 2009 at 11:00 am

I like to capture the unexpected moments, the emotion, and the genuine interaction between my subjects. I think I have the ability to make people comfortable in front of the camera.Great contest Jodi!

  27. Clair Dickson on August 4, 2009 at 11:04 am

Ohhh tough question… I think (hope) my photography stands out in that it is very natural- natural poses…natural settings. And I hope to make my clients comfortable enough that they feel they can be their natural selves.

  28. Brenda on August 4, 2009 at 11:07 am

My photography stands out for the subject matter. Among my peers in the now-defunct photography club on campus, I am the only one who does wildlife. I refer to it as ‘wildlife portraiture’ and use the same sort of color pop or handtinting effects that people would expect to see in wedding albums. On the off-chance I win, I want to hang my print on the opposite end of the hallway from the giraffe photo my mother took when she was my age.

  29. Sheila Carson Photography on August 4, 2009 at 11:09 am

I think what makes me stand out is my fun and quirky style of capturing moments. I try to keep things relaxed and fun as opposed to stiff and posed. 🙂

  30. I think my photography stands out because of the natural expressions I focus on vs posing. I try to get a few “poses” but I really love it when a child is themselves and playing and I can capture that moment in time and that wonder of a child! Those are always the favorite of clients even when they tell me in the beginning they are more of a “pose” person but wanted to try something different.

  31. Tisha Morris on August 4, 2009 at 11:12 am

In a field where there are so many talented artists I have found it harder and harder to stand out in the crowd but I do try. I have utilized the businesses of friends and family to promote my own work and theirs. We have combined party style shoots. It brings in a lot of women and children and benefits me as well as the person I’m working with.

  32. Sheila Carson Photography on August 4, 2009 at 11:12 am

I think what makes me stand out is my fun and quirky style of capturing moments. I try to keep things relaxed and fun as opposed to stiff and posed. :)I forgot to add that I posted the contest on my FB page: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/profile.php?id=616313065&ref=nf

  33. Jan on August 4, 2009 at 11:13 am

I think what makes me stand out as a photographer is my ability to listen to the client and to show “who” they are and not just what they are wearing in the finished products! Good luck to everyone!

  34. Amy Blake on August 4, 2009 at 11:15 am

I’m always drawn in to people’s eyes and tend to get a lot of close ups – I think the clarity of these makes my photography stand out and makes my individual portraits striking. I think I stand out because I’m pretty laid back and I think my clients feel and can appreciate that!

  35. Jaclyn on August 4, 2009 at 11:16 am

I love to take consecutive shots then put them all on one picture.

  36. Ashley Alstad on August 4, 2009 at 11:18 am

I a mjust getting started in photography and mostly working as a second shooter for a wedding photographer, and to me what stands out in my work is my angles and the way I see the shot. Everyone laughs at me at a wedding when I am taking shots laying in the dirt or climbing on the highest object I can find. I also hope that I am pulling an audience’s attention to my photography no matter how uninterested the audience is, I hope to draw them into my work. I hope this makes me stand out in my photographs, as well as, as a photographer

  37. Christine on August 4, 2009 at 11:19 am

What makes me as a photographer stand out…I come to a shoot relaxed and ready to have fun with my clients. Our easy interaction positively impacts the mood of the shoot which results in better pictures that capture my client’s personalities.

  38. Melinda Tuttle on August 4, 2009 at 11:21 am

“What makes your photography stand out?” or “What makes you as a photographer stand out?”I think what I do well as a photographer is make the client feel at ease so that they almost forget there is a camera “in their face”. I tend to capture moments, feelings and emotions very well. My black and white portraits can be very dramatic.

  39. emily on August 4, 2009 at 11:22 am

What makes my photography stand out? I like my photos level and square. It seems to not be in style anymore…everyone tilts. 🙂

  40. Nancy Garvey on August 4, 2009 at 11:23 am

As cheesy as this sounds I think my personality stands out as a photographer. I think the people that I photograph like me as a person. I get a lot of referals from people I have already photographed. I believe that is the biggest compliment a person can get !!!

  41. Denise Skelton on August 4, 2009 at 11:23 am

These are beautiful!Capturing real moments in a family’s life. Having FUN!

  42. Juanita on August 4, 2009 at 11:24 am

I’d say I stand out for my vivid colors and the way I use and manipulate natural lighting in my pictures. I love close up crispy, sharp shots. Especially the eyes. Thanks so much!

  43. Shannon on August 4, 2009 at 11:26 am

“My super-fun personality,” she says with utmost modesty…I’m frequently complimented by clients as to how much fun their shoot was and that they felt like it was time spent catching up with an old friend. I take that as the highest of compliments and pride myself on that experience.

  44. Marisa on August 4, 2009 at 11:27 am

I’m still a relatively newbie photographer, and am happy if I can get a decent picture while shooting on manual! So, if anything makes my photos stand out, I’d say it has to be my primary subject – my cutie pie little girl 🙂

  45. Kristin on August 4, 2009 at 11:31 am

I guess what makes my photography stand out is that I love bright bold color and clean lines. Thanks Jodi!

  46. Julie Feldman on August 4, 2009 at 11:32 am

I think what makes me stand out as a photographer is the way I interact with my clients. I truely become friends with them. We have fun, laugh, tell jokes, and stories the entire session. Parents always comment that I work so well with their kids. So funny since I can’t get my kid to sit for the camera to save my life. I am going to facebook about my excitement for this contest. I just did a baby session that I would love to get a gift print for.

  47. Melinda on August 4, 2009 at 11:32 am

I’m still relatively new but I would say that my photography is candid/journalistic, catching those little but precious moments in life.

  48. Gina Fensterer on August 4, 2009 at 11:38 am

As a photographer, I think I stand out because my photos stem from a love not just for photography, but for capturing what I love about the world around me. Most often, that means photos of my family, but also photos of the beautiful nature in Central New York. My photography is about the memory, the little snipets I want to capture forever.

  49. Karen on August 4, 2009 at 11:39 am

What makes my photography stand out? I think capturing moments in life as they happen – it’s priceless to be able to go back and see genuine expressions on people’s faces.

  50. Robyn O'Neill on August 4, 2009 at 11:40 am

I shoot actors. Somebody’s gotta do it.

  51. kirsten on August 4, 2009 at 11:41 am

I think my photography stands out because it is whimsical, fresh as well as timeless. As far a a photographer goes, I only schedule limited sessions and have never rushed a client or told them that time is up. My sessions probably go longer than the average photographer which takes time away from editing and the computer, but have received referral after referral because of this……so the extra time I guess pays out in the end….and it seems like we always get a killer shot right at the end.

  52. Jackie Beale on August 4, 2009 at 11:46 am

I have just started in the beginning of this year but alot of close friends tell me that I have a fun and unique way to capture love

  53. Dawn McCarthy on August 4, 2009 at 11:51 am

I am a HUGE fan of Color Inc as well, Jodi! They are my favorite lab! : )”What makes you as a photographer stand out?” Dare I say myself and my accent??? Ha! Ha! I think people are surprised when I open my mouth. : ) After viewing my images which tend to be vibrant, sharp and rich I think people assume that I might be a little rigid with an on task mentality. And when they meet me they are like “you aren’t what I expected.” Or at least my “southern twang” isn’t quite what they expected. I am open, interactive, fun, detailed and excited to do what I love!

  54. Vanessa on August 4, 2009 at 11:51 am

I think I stand out because of my more modern style of on-location, natural light, photography. I help people see the beauty in themselves. I love my job!

  55. Tracy on August 4, 2009 at 11:52 am

Well, I hope mine stands out because I try to find the Fingerprints of God in all my images.

  56. Debbie Perrin on August 4, 2009 at 11:52 am

In my opinion, the actions I purchased from Jodi are DEFINITELY helping my photos to stand out! I started my photography with one type of photography in mind, and after find mcp actions, I’ve gone into a totally different direction. Not dropping my first choice totally, but in the new direction, getting shots I totally didn’t know I could do and this was all due to the help, advice and tips I get from Jodi and her blog. I’ve learned so much, and will continue to learn because she constantly adds to blog, site and facebook videos and tips that help me improve my work daily!!! Thanks, Jodi!

  57. Jennifer on August 4, 2009 at 11:58 am

I am not sure what makes my photography stand out-it really is a hard question as stated in alot of the comments above mine. What I think makes certain photogrpahy stand out more than others is how the observer sees the picture. When I look at the world I see a canvas and it amazes me that Mother Nature can paint such amazing place and things! The same goes for photographing people-each one is a different puzzle and capturing them on film is a fantastic way of finding the pieces of that puzzle. I have been told that I capture life really well and that is my goal. God has gifted me with ability to see the world different and I love sharing that with everyone! Thanks for this opprotunity and I love your site!

  58. Wendy Anderson on August 4, 2009 at 11:59 am

I think that my ability to get good pictures of toddlers sharp and in focus, looking at the camera for one, smiling or making funny faces that we as parents all want to remember, when parents leave the session thinking that there is no way I got ANY pictures becuase of course toddlers don’t cooperate :), is what makes me stand out. I always hear afterwards that they can’t believe I got so many, let alone any good pictures of their little one 🙂 It makes me happy that I get to capture those precious fleeting moments that pass by too quickly!

  59. Jeri on August 4, 2009 at 12:00 pm

I try to capture people’s personalities and am up for trying new locations to add a personal touch to the moment. I love DOF, so there’s always a photo reflecting that in a session. 🙂 Thanks for the giveaway, Jodi!!

  60. Amb on August 4, 2009 at 12:02 pm

Well, I guess what makes my photography stand out is that it’s…ME. It’s what I see – it’s my story. I love to capture the beauty of life.Thank you so much for your posts – I love the extra help! ;)You Rock!!

  61. Karen Baetz on August 4, 2009 at 12:05 pm

I love big faces. Big, smiling, freckly, shiny-eyed, detailed faces. I like to feel I’m looking into the real face of my subject when I blow up my photos. I think what makes me stand out as a photographer is the ability to see pretty light and whip up a beautiful scene with my subjects – to imagine the final product as a piece of art. Thanks for the contest!

  62. Greg on August 4, 2009 at 12:07 pm

A lot of people say that they see something “different” in my style. Some say it’s my processing, a lot of people say it’s the natural emotions I am able to capture. Whatever it is, being different is a good thing when it comes to attracting potential clients! Great contest, Jodi, thanks!

  63. Emily on August 4, 2009 at 12:08 pm

I love color and capturing the moment (mainly of my boys). I don’t know if I stand out. I kinda like to blend in and get lots of natural candid moments.

  64. Kathleen Elam on August 4, 2009 at 12:10 pm

I believe I standout from other photographers in my area because I put the client first. I come to them on their time and make the session as comfortable as possible. Fortunately, I live in a rural area which has an abundance of fabulous natural backdrops and I think my clients value the fact I can find things that they would never dream of right in their backyards. Saves time, travel expense, and makes the children way more at peace when they can play and be themselves while I follow them around at their leisure. Thanks again for the contest. I love Color Inc!

  65. Dana Culpepper on August 4, 2009 at 12:15 pm

My passion for photography comes through in my photos and others see it too. I believe it is obvious by the things I capture that I have a love for portrait photography and specifically photographing bonds between people or even with their beloved pets. I think it is obvious when a photographer has a passion for what they are doing or just doing it to make money. Thank you for the opportunity to win these gorgeous prints.

  66. Dana Schroeder on August 4, 2009 at 12:22 pm

I think what makes a photo stand out is that it conveys an emotion or connection with the viewer. They can feel the photo. What makes me stand out as a photographer? I put my heart into every picture.

  67. JodieM on August 4, 2009 at 12:31 pm

My photos stand out because I strive to capture emotion, expression, personality. I’m willing to try new things and make each clients shoot unique, special and fun for them. My clients like the feeling of my personalized service and creativity. That’s what makes me stand out as a photographer. I’ve never tried Color Inc. I’d love to win, thanks for the contest!

  68. April Sauers on August 4, 2009 at 12:43 pm

What makes me stand out….I am still hungry to see things in vivid color and still trying to figure this all out!

  69. Jenny Springer on August 4, 2009 at 12:45 pm

hi jodi! not sure if my photos stand out to others but they stand out to me because they are usually my kids goofy smiles, messy faces or sparkly eyes that make me smile. i hope others get the same goosebumps when they see the images of their kiddles! i think i stand out as a photographer being a mom that just wants to have fun and capture some great memories for my other mom friends!

  70. Jenne on August 4, 2009 at 12:53 pm

My photos stand out because I take the time to relate to the client, get them to relax and open up, and then watch, wait and capture the moments that are truly at the essence of them. I’d love to win this contest – I haven’t tried Color Inc and this would be an incredible intro to their services!

  71. Lynn on August 4, 2009 at 12:57 pm

My theory is to love on my clients; find out what is unique about them and incorporate in my images. Everyone wants to fabulous.

  72. Ashley Larsen on August 4, 2009 at 12:58 pm

My photos stand out to me, because I am capturing those things that are important to me. Thanks for the contest.

  73. abbey on August 4, 2009 at 1:04 pm

Oh my gosh! I LOVE that 2nd shot!! Amazing!I hope to stand out as a photographer just by doing my thing… not following what another photographer does or what I think the ‘masses’ will love. With so many photographers out there you have to find something small that makes you different! I hope I have accomplished this.

  74. Kim on August 4, 2009 at 1:08 pm

What makes me stand out as a photographer is that I take the time to produce (post camera) the best possible portrait that can be given.

  75. Meggan Bobrow on August 4, 2009 at 1:26 pm

My photography stands out because it’s more than just the final product – its the personal interaction and joy that my clients express on and off camera.

  76. Bethany Dawn Burns on August 4, 2009 at 1:29 pm

Well, I am still learning and growing but I think what makes me stand out is the time and energy I spend trying to make my clients feel special and beautiful. I want each client to feel like they are the only one I have! 🙂

It’s hard to say what makes me stand out. I think that as a photographer I can be an artist and show things the way that I see them. It’s the world through my eyes (or my camera as an extension of my eyes, anyway). I like to capture natural beauty all around me, and the things that make people who they are.

  78. Trude Ellingsen on August 4, 2009 at 1:48 pm

So cool to read everybody’s responses! 🙂 I think what makes me as a photographer stand out is capturing the moment and getting people to relax. And I’m pretty darn good with pets, after so much practice trying to capture my own! Thanks for doing this giveaway!

  79. Curtis Farmer on August 4, 2009 at 1:57 pm

I think what makes me stand out is not me at all. It’s my clients. It’s their ability to connect with me and how I connect with them. It’s when they are at ease, having fun, smiling, laughing, and having a good time that good images are produced. My clients make the images, I just capture the moment.

  80. Carin on August 4, 2009 at 1:59 pm

Tough question, loved the previous responses. I like to capture those moments when no one knows I’m there with my camera. If I could become totally invisble when I strapped on my camera I would be a happy girl!

  81. Catherine Halsey on August 4, 2009 at 2:04 pm

What makes my photography stand out? I think it’s the passion I have to make the photo of the child appear the way the parent sees the child… perfect. When I see my child I see crystal clear eyes, perfect skin, a twinkle in their eye and I want to make my photography that way for the parents.

  82. Michelle on August 4, 2009 at 2:08 pm

I’d say my ability to connect and make it fun! At the beginning people always have that nervous thing going on. After a few minutes it’s just like hanging out with friends. 🙂

  83. Amy Durham on August 4, 2009 at 2:13 pm

    * What makes me stand out as a photographer? * I want my subjects to be what stands out. People should feel that the photo of them captures exactly who they are and how they stand out…and I just help bring that out. Thanks for your support of all photographers, Jodi!

  84. Alisha Robertson on August 4, 2009 at 2:16 pm

Natural, real images make me stand out. No stiff posing but still real connections with my clients. As a photographer I think my relationship with the client makes me stand out. Because they feel comfortable with me as a person I am able to capture the natural side of my clients.

  85. Leah on August 4, 2009 at 2:20 pm

I would say as a hobbyist, it is the fact that I have a quality record of my family’s day to day life – the little details that could otherwise be forgotten in 20 years. I also adore ColorInc!

  86. Shannon on August 4, 2009 at 2:34 pm

Great contest! What makes my photography stand out: I guess it’s all a matter of preference to the viewer. I love taking pics of people and prefer more dramatic shots, and not posed ones. I like more of a candid style of photography. Why do I stand out as a photographer: I’m still very new and consider myself practicing. I’m a perfectionist so I will always spend a lot of time analyzing my photographs and making them the best they can be. I like to try new and different ideas with my subjects and love to learn. Thanks Jodi! Love your blog!

  87. Bobbi on August 4, 2009 at 2:37 pm

I would say it’s connection. I always try to get those looks that the parents can say, “That is so my kid”

  88. mallika malhotra on August 4, 2009 at 2:41 pm

what makes my photography stand out? fresh, colorful and contemporary. and real. why do i stand out as a photographer? bec i embrace the imperfect and natural. try to have fun. love to incorporate fashion and style. i get kids bec i still act like one!

  89. Terry Lee on August 4, 2009 at 2:51 pm

That question is a tough one, but after giving it some thought, I guess I have to say that what probably makes my photography stand out is that I have learned to look through my lens and see a personsinner beauty so that I can capture their feelings and emotions which inevitably translates to the viewer. This way, I can photograph a child/persons own true nature…exactly who they are and I put my whole heart into it. I think people respond to how these feelings communicate to them in ways that make them linger in front of a photo and stop and “be present”… appreciating the blessings in life.I just love the art of photography and I absolutely love children and family life and that is what peoplesee when they look at my final product…now, that being said…it is Jodi’s wonderful teaching methods that have helped me to understand the technology that gets me there…she is a modern day master atwhat she does and I am grateful that she is here…her knowledge that she is able to share and herfabulous workshops and actions, etc are what will help me to find where I can stand out with a style that is ultimately my own. Thanks, Jodi…the prints of the girls are GORGEOUS!!! Beautiful interpretation of the relationship between twins!

  90. beverly wright on August 4, 2009 at 3:11 pm

What makes your photography stand out?I love eyes. Maybe because of what people say – they are the window to the soul. I like to shoot wide and get those eyes tack sharp and brilliant.

  91. Laurie Flickinger on August 4, 2009 at 3:23 pm

I am an aspiring photographer, but what I hope will make me stand out as a photographer one day is my ability to see beauty anywhere. I like to find locations that are atypical and transform them into something beautiful.

  92. Megan on August 4, 2009 at 3:26 pm

I pride myself on connecting emotionally with my clients…then I take it one step further by pulling that emotion out in every photograph that I capture. I love it when my work moves a client to tears (happy tears, of course!)

  93. Kathy on August 4, 2009 at 3:27 pm

    1. I love color and love using it to make my pictures pop. I hope the end result makes my photography stand out. As a photographer if you don’t love what you’re doing it shows, so I try to have as much fun possible when I do photo shoots!

  94. Liz Applegate on August 4, 2009 at 3:40 pm

I offer my clients the opportunity to have outdoors pictures. Because of this, they get fresh colors that bounce off the page.

  95. cynthia lively on August 4, 2009 at 3:43 pm

“What makes your photography stand out?” imagination & creativity,”outside the box” thinking, attention to detail, keen visual sense, design & technique, with a unique style that people recognize

  96. Nicole Benitez on August 4, 2009 at 3:47 pm

Thank you Jodi for another great contest!! I want one of these so I can order one of my twin girls from our beach vacation. What makes your photography stand out? I never try to be someone else, or copy someone else’s style. What makes you as a photographer stand out? I want my clients to have fun, have a positive experience and make them comfortable in front of my camera.

  97. Wendy on August 4, 2009 at 3:49 pm

I like to think my work is timeless.

  98. Jennifer Alder on August 4, 2009 at 3:50 pm

What makes my work stand out?I think my work stands out because I aim to capture an aspect of my client’s personality. A piece of his or her soul- through eyes- in all of my images. Utilizing fun locations and finding ways to make the images tell stories. I like nontraditional compositions and artistic treatment, too!

  99. Casey Cooper on August 4, 2009 at 3:55 pm

What makes you as a photographer stand out? I listen to my clients and ask what THEY want to see from the session instead of me directing the session. Also, I will inject my own style if they have no preference. I prefer candid shots and vintage style.

  100. Rebecca on August 4, 2009 at 4:04 pm

So far I’ve focused mostly on photographing people I know. I love capturing the special looks between the people I hang out with. I think the evidence of their connections and their relationship to me comes through. That, and I just love to shoot the people I love! 🙂

  101. Amanda on August 4, 2009 at 4:06 pm

While I am still learning I feel like I pride myself on customer service. I go beyond the call of duty to make sure my customers are happy with the end result.

  102. diana on August 4, 2009 at 4:10 pm

sometimes i think the only thing that makes me stand out as a photog is the fact that i love it. it makes me happy. there is joy in every snap of the shutter. it might not show up in every photo, but i hope that some of it spills over. i also hope that the people around me, either in or out of the photo see my joy also. i also am not a “professional” yet and i am still working on my signature style, which is a good thing, because i’m not scared of trying something new or learning how to make things look different. (now i read everyone else’s responses! geez, i’m so glad i don’t have to pick a winner!)

  103. Carrie V. on August 4, 2009 at 4:23 pm

I love shooting the eyes, and it seems my clients want close ups of the their kid’s eyes, the way I’ve done with my kids…

  104. heatherK on August 4, 2009 at 4:25 pm

Many of my friends have found my photography unexpected; they recognize the subjects but are blown away by the beauty and design they hadn’t even thought to consider was even there. That’s what I love; finding the uncommon beauty and design in the common things around me and sharing what I find.

  105. Philicia on August 4, 2009 at 4:40 pm

My photographs stand out because of my special recipe for tinting. My favorite is my heather-tinted colors – they give a timeless dimension to the images. That and my bubble-machine – a favorite with all my little customers!

  106. erin on August 4, 2009 at 4:42 pm

I hope what makes my photography stand out is the heart behind the photo… I want my subject’s soul to shine… on the shots where that happens, I am in heaven.

  107. Paige Green on August 4, 2009 at 4:42 pm

What makes me stand out as a photographer? Well, the lens is such a joy… such a challenge! Everything I see and create with my camera is based on styles I’ve loved, a multitude of photographers who have influenced me, the love (in all forms) of the people who allow me photograph their moments and the love and connections I share with my family and especially my husband (who also happens to be my partner)… so I guess what makes me stand out is… Me.

  108. Jo Wienshienk on August 4, 2009 at 4:54 pm

Hello there .. The answer to number 1 is giving the client something different and creative. I want to capture the things that make that person, model, or family unique and special. Number 2 is I “Shoot from the Heart” I put all I have into each image. I found out not long ago the image you take today may be all someone has to cherish if something happens to a loved one or friend. So each has to be exceptional hense my name Xceptional Images. Thank You for all the wonderful tips on here

  109. Christine M on August 4, 2009 at 4:57 pm

I try to make my photography stand out by: waiting for that precise moment when my subject displays their true PERSONALITY! I try to engage my subjects by getting them to laugh and loosen up, so they feel relaxed and have FUN. I want them to leave with a feeling of happiness – like they actually had a fun time during their session! This helps me to capture their real selves. 🙂 I think it shows in my portraits!

  110. Dawn Norris on August 4, 2009 at 5:04 pm

“What makes your photography stand out?”A blend of vibes and artistic vision help my photography stand out in conservative New England – while many of my fellow photogs are traditional I find that my clients seek me out to provide them with heirloom images that have uniqueness and with someone like me behind the lens talking them through an experience instead of a sterile session. My favorite ending to a session is when a client says to me “I had SO much fun and I’m so inspired by your work!” before they’ve seen a proof. As Arnold Newman said “we don’t take pictures with our cameras but with our hearts and minds.” I try to live that out through every shutter click.

  111. Christina on August 4, 2009 at 5:17 pm

What makes me or my photography stand out? Well… I’m very critical of my work. I’m always striving to learn more and do better. I’m never really satisfied with anything I shoot. And I try to get better with each session. So, I believe it is my drive and determination that make me stand out.

  112. Jackie Holloway on August 4, 2009 at 5:24 pm

What a great contest! I think what makes me as a photographer stand out is my way of looking at things. I try my hardest to be artistic and different in many areas. As far as my photography goes, I like to use bright bold colors, trying to limit my b/ws to super moody artsy stuff.

  113. Deborah Farver on August 4, 2009 at 5:27 pm

I decided to go ahead and answer both questions.”What makes your photography stand out?” I think what makes my photography stand out is the fun I have with it. I love trying new and sometimes unusual things. I am always up for a challenge and love working to make my photos the best they can possibly be. “What makes you as a photographer stand out?” For this one I would say my goofy sense of humor. I usually have no problems making people smile……or laugh. I make a point of trying to be as silly as I can and it usually does the trick. I also try to think of every photo I shoot as a work of art or art in progress. Thanks for another great contest Jodi and Color Inc!!!

  114. Jen Gentry on August 4, 2009 at 5:29 pm

What makes me as a photographer stand out? I think the combination of the fact that my clients always have such a great time with me, I’m very relaxed and outgoing, and then that their images really do show that they had a great time as well!

  115. Stacia on August 4, 2009 at 5:38 pm

I have a style that will always be in style…I appreciate the trends, but when it comes down to it, I like a clean classic style that, like I said, will never go out of style.

  116. Brandon Leong on August 4, 2009 at 5:48 pm

“What makes your photography stand out?”ColorInc is going to make my photography stand out now. This thing is awesome, the prints look great, got to order some now.

  117. Tracie on August 4, 2009 at 5:49 pm

I believe that my job as a photographer is to get honesty from my subjects and to show them in a way that let’s everyone easily identify beautiful things about them.So I would say what sets me apart and makes my photography stand out is my ability to work around the subject to make my style and their personalities work together to make an impacting picture.

  118. Natasha on August 4, 2009 at 5:53 pm

I think what makes me stand out as a photog is I can work very well with children(my son is special needs so I have tons of patients with him and it shows in my photos!) and i make My clients feel very comfy most of My clients are now good friends of mine lol

  119. Amanda J on August 4, 2009 at 6:27 pm

It’s hard to stand out as a photographer. Most everything has already been done! If I had to pick one thing that makes me a little bit different I would say that I’m good at capturing my subject’s personality.

  120. Megan on August 4, 2009 at 6:35 pm

I think what makes me stand out as a photographer is my attention to the “non-moments”. I love snapping when my clients aren’t looking, or when they think I’m not shooting. That’s when they are truly themselves. Not posing, not cheesing, just being themselves. Those moments are the reason I love what I do.

  121. Elizabeth B on August 4, 2009 at 6:58 pm

As a photographer I like to capture the personality of my clients through their eyes. I love using my MCP Eye Doctor to make them sparkle.

  122. Shannon White (S & G Photography) on August 4, 2009 at 7:28 pm

I’ve been wanting to try stand outs for a while now! Oh, it would be fantastic to win!!Just about anything I say has been covered above. I think my ability to build trust quickly with my clients & get them to do anything I ask is something that makes me unique. It’s amazing how many people just trust me very quickly. I often hear of conversations people had about me later when they talked about the kookie things they did and how much they loved the results.

  123. Kristin Anderson Photography on August 4, 2009 at 7:30 pm

What makes me stand out as a photographer is my diversity. I shoot underwater, weddings, newborns, couples, commercial projects and I absolutely adore each type of shooting. I believe that each new challenge allows me to bring more to each of my clients. Who knew that shooting sharks and nudibranchs would give me so much to work with when shooting couples in love and kids having fun!

  124. Maria Black on August 4, 2009 at 7:38 pm

Hmmm, that’s tough. I hope that its my connection with people and my ability to see beauty in everyone. The way I see the world and the people in it certainly has changed since becoming a photographer.

  125. Emily Dobson on August 4, 2009 at 7:45 pm

I’ve been a photographer for 4 1/2 months; therefore, I’m still trying to define my style. But for now, I’d say my photography stands out because I’m a natural light, on-location photographer. No other photographer in the surrounding areas of where I live can hold to either of these. As a photographer, I hope to eventually establish myself as the photographer everyone feels comfortable with – someone who is easy to talk to and and laugh with and be a friend after the session is over. Thanks Jodi!

  126. Barb Ray - Thru Barb's Lens on August 4, 2009 at 8:00 pm

To be honest, I’m still trying to figure out exactly what I WANT that standout thing(s) to be…obviously, I want great results…I want to know the client is having as much or more fun than I am…I want them to provide input so I give them what it is they want, but still allow for me to be creative enough to come up with things they haven’t thought of yet…I want to be friends with them by the time they leave the shoot even if this is the first time they’ve met me…I want their photos to reflect who they are at that very moment in time…I want them to walk away looking forward to our next opportunity together!!! Just building my business…so these goals are all good for me to think about!!!!!!!

  127. Summer Adams on August 4, 2009 at 8:10 pm

I think my photography stands out because I see things differently than most people. I focus on the details in life. As a photographer, I stand out because I truly do enjoy photographing people and capturing the details that make life great.

  128. NicoleB on August 4, 2009 at 8:11 pm

What makes me different…I dare not say it makes me different from other photographers but I know our passion for what we do makes us all special.

  129. heather on August 4, 2009 at 8:23 pm

I think what makes me and my work stand out is I try to capture moments as they happen. I do posey pictures, but my love lies in those moments that are difficult to recreate. I try to capture the essence of my subject.

  130. Kayla Renckly on August 4, 2009 at 8:27 pm

I try to stand out by being true to my style. I love moments that people forget I’m there and show their real connections, the way a mom looks at her new baby or the way a couple in love playfully touch noses. My clients love my vibrant colors and contrasty bws and they love the way they look.

  131. Susan Dodd on August 4, 2009 at 8:32 pm

Since I mostly photograph pets, my biggest compliment has been when a client told me that with one click of my shutter I captured his beloved dog, Quincy’s, soul. So, I think that’s it. I capture more than just a beautiful outside, I capture the inside. Honestly, I’m not a technical gurue at all, I shoot straight from my heart….and I shoot for the heart.

  132. Brittney Melton on August 4, 2009 at 8:33 pm

“What makes your photography stand out?” or “What makes you as a photographer stand out?I think my photography is kind of relaxing… I always love to make people laugh (and then capture that laugh in a picture) A Client that hired me once was whispering to her family in a photo “laugh, she takes good laughing pictures” haha – so I love to have people photographed while they’re laughing. It adds so much life to a photo!

  133. Laurie on August 4, 2009 at 8:54 pm

What makes my photography stand out? My location choices give my photography an edgy style. I am passionate about creating a custom session for my clients and making the connections that produce images that show the “real”ness of my clients..

  134. Karla on August 4, 2009 at 9:13 pm

I think what makes my photography stand out is how I show the person’s smile in their eyes! It is one thing to capture a fake smile it is another to truly have them feel it from within~! thanks for a great giveaway~

  135. Katrina on August 4, 2009 at 9:17 pm

What a good question to ponder. I think that what makes me stand out is that I truly try to capture my subjects personality. I take my time and relax and my subject then does too. I love showing people how they are and not just fake smiles.

  136. Katy Geesaman on August 4, 2009 at 9:44 pm

The different angles I take my pictures at make me stand out, and I love trying to take a normal picture and make it look like art.

  137. Christy on August 4, 2009 at 9:44 pm

I’ve been told that I’m really good at capturing eyes..

  138. Amanda U on August 4, 2009 at 9:45 pm

Great question… I think it is because I look beyond the ordinary and find the extraordinary…I love to surprise people with a view they would not have imagined, a view that captures the true magic of the moment.

  139. Sally Rich on August 4, 2009 at 9:56 pm

What makes me special are my kids… 🙂 They’re the reason I got into photography in the first place. I love them!! What makes my photography stand out would have to be the way people respond to it. They have to feel emotion or I haven’t done my job. 😉

  140. lori (aka: marzi) on August 4, 2009 at 10:07 pm

this is a really tough question! i’m just a beginner, but i hope that people think my work stands out because of the interesting angles and perspectives i try to show in my photos.

  141. Amy Cameron on August 4, 2009 at 10:15 pm

What makes my photography stand out?I saw similiar answers already written, but I truly believe that I am what makes my photography stand out. Photographers are everywhere but there is only one me. Gosh, I sound like Mr. Rogers don’t I? Really though…each of us has a unique perspective and a unique spin that only we can give our photographs. Then, I take that image and I mix it with a little MCP action and I have a picture that pops. A little eye doctor here…a bit of sharp as a tack there…and soon a work of art emerges.

  142. Wendy on August 4, 2009 at 10:44 pm

Quite honestly my pictures stand out because I’m not as good as some of the photographers out there. I am improving with practice. So there you have it! Just being honest that’s all.

  143. Angela on August 4, 2009 at 11:07 pm

Hi there ~ I think the one thing I hear repeatedly from clients is that I have infinate patience with children. I think that makes me stand out in the area I am in. A session with me is just like hanging out – sure I may take longer than the average photog for a session but I make sure I got the shot..I don’t rush off to the next appointment.

  144. Kathy Austin on August 4, 2009 at 11:14 pm

I mostly shoot cutting horse show action shots. What makes mine stand out? Knowing cutting horses well enough to know exactly when to get the best shot & taking several pix of each run instead of the standard “3 shots per run” that most photogs seem to take. Most competitors seem to appreciate having several shots to choose from. But mostly having a good knowledge of reading horses & cattle well enough to have the right timing down. Sure I have goof-ups, but I get some really cool shots usually.

  145. Jill on August 5, 2009 at 12:01 am

my photography is different because i capture real life and have fun with my clients!

  146. Aileen on August 5, 2009 at 12:07 am

What makes my photography stand out? Me. and my ability to capture all the little moments, the details, the connections.

  147. Nancy Cuppy on August 5, 2009 at 12:09 am

I am working hard at becoming a better photographer. At this point in time I would say interaction with my clients to get their personalities to show in their portraits. My landscape photos would be attention to detail and conveying exactly what I saw and felt the moment I took the photo.

  148. Jennie on August 5, 2009 at 12:10 am

I think what makes me stand out as a photographer is getting my subjects doing what they do best;just being themselves!

  149. Missy on August 5, 2009 at 12:25 am

I’ve been told by several people that my photography is different from other photographers. They say it’s because of my unique style. So yea for that!

  150. Adrian Blake on August 5, 2009 at 12:30 am

I love the two silhouetted shots of the girls, they are such cute shots. 1) I may be too new to have developed a clear reason for my photography to stand out. I’m certainly hoping that it’s my great timing in the heat of the moment that shows through2) Honestly, I stand out because I’m 6’3″. Truthfully though, I think its my personality and presence that are valuable to my clients.

  151. Nancy on August 5, 2009 at 1:46 am

I think one of the main things that makes my work stand out is that I seem to be able to find the intimacy and specialness of people in my photographs, and it makes them feel good to see their inner beauty show through in the pictures.

  152. Tamara on August 5, 2009 at 2:54 am

Kids love me and so do their parents!!

  153. Pete on August 5, 2009 at 5:43 am

I feel that I standout because I go above and beyond. Under promise and over deliver. Thanks for the chance, the standouts look fantastic.

  154. Laurie Walton on August 5, 2009 at 6:33 am

I stand out for a very odd reason i think…I love bad kids….I am a behavior interventionist while my husband does the studio during the week so I deal with them everyday! Parents who have never been able to get a good picture now stand a chance…and the word got out quickly!!!!

  155. Lisa Manchester on August 5, 2009 at 6:47 am

Hmmm…I probably stand out, mainly because I live in the country and around here, there aren’t many with a nice dslr. And when someone walks around with one, the camera just seems to jump out. I’m just starting out, but the “work” I’ve done so far seems to be liked by those who see it. I’ve even been asked to shoot a friends wedding! *gulp* I just enjoy photography! I absolutely love it!

  156. Shana Qualey on August 5, 2009 at 7:07 am

What makes my photography stand out is my creative use of nature as a backdrop/compliment to any subject.

  157. honey on August 5, 2009 at 7:46 am

I think I stand out because I really see beauty in everything and everyone and am able to make that shine through in my photographs.

  158. Ashley on August 5, 2009 at 9:01 am

I look at everything differently since taking up photography and I think you can find beauty in everything. Life is so simple when looking through the camera. I love looking at something and seeing it in a different light than everyone else. It makes you appreicate everything this world has to offer us.

  159. Tina on August 5, 2009 at 9:28 am

I think my photography stands out because I try to capture beautiful expressions without the fake smiles. And then I take the extra bit of time to make the person shine in Photoshop. 🙂

  160. rhonda m on August 5, 2009 at 9:32 am

I’m still learning so much, I don’t know if I “stand out” yet. I can tell my pictures are getting better and I love seeing the process get easier and loving the results.I am happy I have pictures I feel that are “worthy” of putting on canvas!

  161. Joanne Jesnek on August 5, 2009 at 9:43 am

My love of photography came when my I seen my first sunset in Florida. It turned me into a love of what a wonderful world God has created for us. I am now a photographer looking for that special creative shot that expresses the love between human, earth and creation. I try to capture those special moments that are not necessarily posed but the ones when the subjects are caught off guard doing what they do naturally.

  162. Pamela on August 5, 2009 at 10:23 am

Capturing the ‘Real Feel’ and bringing out the BEST in my subjects is what makes me [as a photographer] stand out.

  163. Michelle on August 5, 2009 at 11:12 am

My photography stands out because I truly try and capture a moment. Posed shots can be (and lots are) great, but there’s nothing better than capturing a moment of emotion or action. Those are the shots that have the most impact.

  164. Jessica S. on August 5, 2009 at 11:13 am

I don’t know that I do stand out. I prefer not to compare what I do with what other photographers do. I do it not for them, but for me.I would like to be the best photographer I can be, whether that is a stand out photographer or a blend in photographer is for other people to decide.

  165. Chelsea on August 5, 2009 at 11:15 am

I’ve been told that what makes my photography stand out is my use of color, and my “urban” style. Myself, I think it’s more my eye! (I just realized how difficult it was to say something GOOD about my photography style…so used to critiquing myself!)Thanks for the giveaway!

  166. Kerry Sundahl on August 5, 2009 at 11:33 am

I think what makes my photography stand out is that I love to capture the real person. I love shots of people looking directly at my camera, so it seems you can see into the persons eyes. Sharp eyes are a must for me. What makes me as a photographer stand out is that I am good at connecting with children. They usually like me and end up having a lot of fun.

  167. Tori on August 5, 2009 at 11:43 am

interesting angles is what makes my photography stand out.

  168. Adria Peaden on August 5, 2009 at 12:06 pm

I love close up shots of families. There is something about seeing someone’s face and expression that stands out the most to me. As a photographer I stand out with my personality. People meet me and we talk as if we have been friends for ages. Repeat customers usually say they chose me because they felt comfortable with me.

  169. Lauri Hill on August 5, 2009 at 12:21 pm

I try to make it a fun experience for people to get their pictures done. I look for them moments when they forget the camera is there and capture the person or persons being totally themselves. When I get that on film, I feel like I have done my job. Those are the pictures that end up being the favorites.

  170. Vicki on August 5, 2009 at 12:31 pm

I think what stands out — I hope what stands out — in my photography is the interaction between people, being able to feel or read their emotion and connection through their body language — and I think much of that has to do with the relationship I have with them, both physically and emotionally.

  171. Nicole on August 5, 2009 at 1:03 pm

I seem to have a knack for capturing the relationships between people. At least that’s where my passion lies! 🙂

  172. Maria Nissen on August 5, 2009 at 1:35 pm

I try to create situations in which people can be themselves in front of the camera. I encourage and sing their praises. I observe and allow things to unfold. I think people feel my passion not just about photography, but about people, about them and that translates onto the image.

  173. Moria Zuriel on August 5, 2009 at 2:09 pm

the phrase I’ve chosen to represent me is “to capture the moment”… andthat’s what I try to do. I despise posed stuff… it’s just not real. I LOVE to capture life, AS it happens. to preserve that moment forever in time.

  174. Brigid Robeen on August 5, 2009 at 2:36 pm

What makes your photography stand out? ~ I have a edge that I bring to my photography. I play with angles and textures. I bring to the table what others can be afraid to step into.

  175. Jess on August 5, 2009 at 2:37 pm

What makes me as a photographer stand out is that I never stop learning. I learn something new everyday!

  176. Marla DeKeyser on August 5, 2009 at 3:16 pm

Since I mainly photograph my children, I would have to say that it’s my subjects that make my photography stand out – they are what make me want to be a better photographer.

  177. Silisia Rubel on August 5, 2009 at 3:21 pm

I’m a very nice and sincere person. It’s evident in how I deal with people. They feel comfortable with me and allow the time we spend together (getting their picture made) to be a joint effort. We play off of each other going from one idea to another. When we’re through, they feel like they’ve been a part of the process, not just someone that sits in front of the camera waiting for me to tell them what to do next. Even though some of the shots are “posed” I still see a comfortable, “more like themselves” expression shine through.

  178. Cathy A Smith on August 5, 2009 at 5:26 pm

“What makes you as a photographer stand out?” I try to get it right and will work hard to figure out how to get it right. I tend to document life/nature in a postcard style using the color and variety as my props. I have a style that is “me”.

  179. Catharine on August 5, 2009 at 5:51 pm

I think being a women helps me to stand out. There aren’t a lot of women photographers in our area, and even less that are moms. My perspective on chidren helps me to stand out.

  180. Staci Langford on August 5, 2009 at 6:10 pm

I’m the silly one who makes people laugh. I challenge myself to capture emotion.

  181. Shae on August 5, 2009 at 7:01 pm

I stand out with the was I do my PP. I used a lot of grungy textures and bright colors. I also like to think I stand out to my clients because I put them first.

  182. Mindy on August 5, 2009 at 9:28 pm

ME!!! I am unique! I love how you can place 20 different photographers in a room shooting the same subject, and you’ll get 20 different photographs, it’s ART!!!

  183. Darcy Gray on August 5, 2009 at 9:54 pm

“What makes your photography stand out?” My distinctively different view of the innane. I consistently strive to see the ordinary as extraordinary by studying the curves. angles, and colors of the item!

  184. Ciara R. on August 5, 2009 at 11:11 pm

I am still learning the ropes, but I strive to have a FUN time with my clients. I try to build a relationship with them and make it a relaxed, enjoyable time, that they will look back on with a smile.

  185. Wendy on August 5, 2009 at 11:32 pm

I love photography. I want to take pictures of everything, all the time.I take pride in every photo.

  186. Brandilyn Davidson on August 6, 2009 at 12:29 am

I love Color Inc. as well but haven’t branched out at all, they look awesome!! Makes me want to try out some new stuff… Thanks for all the tips and tricks!

  187. Manuella on August 6, 2009 at 9:18 am

From my client’s point of view, I think I stand out because I have the ability to make everyone feel like they are my good friend. I am often told, how comfortable and how much fun my clients had at a session, and of course the work has to be good but the relationship between photographer and client is priceless.

  188. Lydia Catherine on August 6, 2009 at 5:27 pm

I would like to think that everything I do makes me stand out. Really making the client feel at ease and being able to capture emotion is the key.Jodi- Thanks for another great giveaway you are so gracious.

  189. Brooke Heki on August 6, 2009 at 8:12 pm

I’m constantly thinking outside the box when doing a shoot. I capture crazy and different photos while instilling their personality into the shot. Some of the different images I’ve captured was one girl vacuuming the lawn, titled “Operation Cleanup.” On one senior photo shoot the girl wore a gorgeous red gown and we did a Marilyn Monroe shot on an oil barrel in an alley. Another senior boy we stuck in a grocery cart in the local IGA’s produce section. On a children’s shoot I put the kids in a trunk and on suitcases with a sign that said grama’s like they were running away to grandma’s house. I add specialized coloring and effects to my photos that add to the image making it a fine piece of art and not just another photo. Capturing images that not only will be all the rave amongst friends and family but also memories that will be cherished for years to come is what makes my photography stand out.

  190. teresa on August 6, 2009 at 8:50 pm

I always encourage a genuine laughing shot of everyone, I think that an unguarded expression when someone is less aware of the camera is the best…and it usually winds up being their favorite shot even though they thought it would be a throw away.At least that’s how I try to stand out!

  191. Ally on August 6, 2009 at 9:54 pm

Well, I think what makes my pictures stand out is the subjects looking so natural. Like I just came upon them and caught them in the moment instead of posing. Well, at least I hope that is what makes them stand out.

  192. Joy on August 6, 2009 at 10:20 pm

I think what makes me stand out as a photographer is my ability to fall in love just a little with every baby and child I meet. The parents can see it, so they are more comfortable with me, so then the kids are, too!

  193. Josie on August 6, 2009 at 10:30 pm

Oh, I love standout mounts!! I have a couple of my with my kiddo’s and I’m from Michigan but currently in East Texas, any ways. I think as a photographer I want to be natural, I let the little ones play and just have fun then I get some great shots with their wonderful little personalities. Thanks for hosting this wonderful giveaway.

  194. Stacey Rainer on August 6, 2009 at 10:48 pm

I work really hard to not do “say cheese” photos. I like to capture a person as they are, and not how they can be if they work really hard to get ready for picture day. As for style, something I think that makes me look different is my preference for warm, bright images. I enjoy looking at darker, dramatic shots, but I produce warmth and brightness.

  195. Tanya on August 6, 2009 at 11:01 pm

What makes my photography stand out is me. I don’t have a studio yet; I’m even still working on building a site to showcase my work! So what stands out about my photography are the talents God gave me. My eyes, my sense of wonder for the world around me, and my ability to let go and laugh with my clients. I see the beauty in everything – from the curve of the petal in a flower to the curve of a newborn’s cheek. I am inspired by the simplicity in life, and I love that I can capture it all in the camera and use great tools like Jodi’s actions to enhance the images and share them with the world!

  196. Peyton Baldwin on August 6, 2009 at 11:10 pm

I’m pretty new to photography but I’ve always loved how pictures can tell you the story of someone’s life. I strive to do that at every photo session. I want people to have a nice portrait but also to capture real moments, expressions and personalities. I think this approach makes me and my photography stand out!

  197. Danielle Simone on August 7, 2009 at 1:26 am

I think what makes me stand out is that I am constantly trying to be different and shoot in different locations. Boring is so 2005!

  198. Patrick B on August 7, 2009 at 8:48 am

What makes me stand out is personality. I feel I have a strong knack for reading people – understanding what makes them “tick” and use this to my advantage. I love to be silly with kids and make them laugh and sing silly songs. On the other hand, an adult may have a very dry sense of humor or be very serious. I try my best to be very dynamic and really get personality to show in the photo.

  199. Janet Lewallen on August 7, 2009 at 2:21 pm

I try to really capture each child I photograph as I would my own. With patience and kindness producing images I would be proud to hang on my own wall. I think it raises the standard and makes me stand out.

  200. Andrea on August 7, 2009 at 3:22 pm

I mostly photograph my children, and I think my photos stand out when I am able to find the right angle and capture the right moment.

  201. Malia on August 7, 2009 at 3:55 pm

I think its the angles I use. I try to see things from a different perspective than the norm and capture that.

  202. Heidi on August 7, 2009 at 10:34 pm

Tough question! It’s hard to pinpoint in oneself, so I’ll go with what I’ve had clients tell me: that they have a lot of fun shooting with me.

  203. Dana Stone, Photos of the Heart on August 8, 2009 at 12:36 am

I was just given a great compliment this morning. I was told that my photography really stands out because the people in my portraits look happy. Couples look in love. Parents look like they love the kids. Kids look spunky, crazy, happy, full of personality. She asked me what the secret is. I told her that I don’t set up a shot and tell people to “look happy”. I put on my shoes and follow the family. We go somewhere they ARE happy and THEN I take the picture. So I don’t know if this makes me really stand out as a photographer, or my pictures stand out. I see so many talented people online that I don’t think of myself as anything special. But if it’s special to those who matter….that means I’ve done my job and I guess that stands out to them.

  204. ALVN of WhisperWood Cottage on August 8, 2009 at 11:22 am

I enjoy unique angles. I just got a new wide angle lens and am loving it! It adds a whole new perspective to my photos!!

  205. allison on August 8, 2009 at 10:42 pm

I think it has to be my eye for natural light…. gotta love what God created for us!

  206. Amy Cupp (iheartpix) on August 9, 2009 at 5:33 pm

Well, I would have to say that no matter what, I am ME 🙂 I love bright funky things and what I call emotional black and whites and I think that comes across in my work. I love my job and I don’t spend too much time trying to make my work “unique”. My work is me and I am truly blessed to get to call this my job!

  207. Janie on August 9, 2009 at 5:35 pm

I like to think what stands out about me and the way I approach my business is that I make it about taking the time to capture a memory. For me it is not about how much product they are going to order, but truly taking the time to get to know the family, the child, whoever I am photographing at that moment, and then capturing on film a memory that they can look back at forever and remember that moment in time.

  208. Melissa on August 9, 2009 at 5:38 pm

That is a tough question. I don’t know that I stand out. I have always been a bit shy and didn’t want to stand out, so truthfully at this point I try not to think about it. I know why I want my photography to stand out. I want it to capture really people in real moments. It is getting there. I still do plenty of posed shots, families tend to want them, but I try to put them in natural places.

  209. Courtney Blue on August 9, 2009 at 5:40 pm

What makes me stand out as a photographer is my love for kids! I LOVE acting as a kid with them. I love to follow them around to get candid shots so I can see the world through their eyes. I come home from going to the same place but everytime I see it differently. I see it how that child saw it. I have 3 children of my own and know that every child sees things differently.

  210. Stacy Brogan Able on August 9, 2009 at 5:44 pm

photography stand out: colorful, contemporary, creative… photographer stand out: 6 feet tall and red hair…

  211. Sandy on August 9, 2009 at 5:51 pm

Making people feel comfortable in front of a stranger and in front of a camera. I recently had some seniors tell me how they were nervous before the shoot because they felt it would be awkward since we didn’t know each other, but I made it so fun for them to be comfortable and be themselves.

  212. Gretchen Steele on August 9, 2009 at 6:04 pm

    1. I think what makes my photography stand out is my ability to capture the wild and natural world around me, and share it with others. Virtually every day finds me afield – from the forest and fields, to the rivers and streams, from the smallest bit of lichen or moss to the largest bull elk. 2. I think my days afield are big part of what makes me stand out. No studio, no neat and tidy equipment just me in cammo clothes, reeking of bug spray and dragging my cammo skinned equipment around in on ebag and my blinds in another. The other part that makes me stand I think is that technically I am considered disabled. I have Multiple Sclerosis which often affects my ability to walk well and my ability to see, but both my docs and I feel that my time “in the woods” in more therapeutic than any pharmaceutical that has been made! Long live photography as art therapy!

  213. Brad on August 9, 2009 at 6:22 pm

What makes my photographs stand out? Probably the color, contrast and eye-catching effects from the MCP actions I apply…they’re the best! What makes me standout as a photographer? Well, I’m not a pro photographer; it’s just my hobby. But getting in close and grabbing the face, the look of the eyes, the smile. That seems to be what people like best about my work.

  214. Crystal on August 9, 2009 at 6:27 pm

What makes me stand out? Gee I’m really just getting going so that is hard just yet. I guess it would be that my photos are my own unique perspective on the world. No one will ever take a shot just the same way I did!

  215. Tracey Skadberg on August 9, 2009 at 6:32 pm

I work hard to have my photographs be real and non posed. People say that I work hard to get the shots. Thanks for the giveaway!!

  216. Darrylee Cohen on August 9, 2009 at 7:15 pm

I love people! I love to meet people and get to know them and hear their stories. I love to capture their personalities in my photography. And I love to take pictures of people enjoying life and all of the happy times in their lives.

  217. Tina P. on August 9, 2009 at 7:43 pm

What makes me stand out as a photographer? My big camera bag!!!!!

  218. i think my photography stands out because i bring a fresh perspective…my best work is when i don’t try to set up a shot, but i just happen upon it. i get this feeling when i see something awesome thru my viewfinder and usually i get a gut feeling about how to post-process it too. i think what makes me stand out is that while i may do some things that other photogs do, i am not afraid to try something new or think outside the box.

  219. Jenna on August 9, 2009 at 8:08 pm

Honestly. I have never thought about this. What makes me stand out? I’m actually not sure. Maybe I need to evaluate this more! I guess ideally what I want to known for is the ability to capture people naturally, fresh, bright, muted, vintage… whatever suits the mood of the photo. I want to make moms cry, and the senior feel gorgeous, I guess I just really want to make people happy, and myself happy also.

  220. Jessica Wright on August 9, 2009 at 8:11 pm

I think my personality makes me stand out as a photographer, I am always told I am easy to get a long with and people say they feel like they have known me forever when I am leaving a shoot.

  221. casey m on August 9, 2009 at 9:28 pm

I think what makes me stand out is that I try to capture a child’s true personality. I let them be themselves. Sometimes it is not what the parent thinks they want, but so far everyone has been very happy with the outcome. Thanks for another great contest! Hopefully this comment gets in just under the wire! 🙂

  222. Wendy Kovac on August 17, 2009 at 4:34 pm

What makes me stand out? I focus on the details. Though I am a perfectionist to a fault, I am also flexible and great at capturing the unexpected. My work stands out because I take extra steps to achieve flawless images in camera, then add creative touches to make them ever more dreamy in post production.
