Win a Tamron 18-270mm Di II VC PZD Lens for Nikon, Canon or Sony dSLR Cameras

The Prize:

The New Tamron 18-270mm Di II VC PZD Lens for Nikon, Canon or Sony dSLR Cameras (Tamron 28-300VC for Nikon or Canon may be substituted if you have a full frame camera)

Details about the lens:

The World’s Lightest, Smallest 15x Zoom: Tamron 18-270mm Di II VC PZD is 24% Smaller than Previous Model!

The acclaimed Tamron 18-270mm VC all-in-one zoom for APS-C format DSLRs has reached an astonishing new level of compactness, performance, and speed with the addition of PZD (PIEZO Drive), an innovative ultrasonic autofocus motor based on an advanced piezoelectric design. The result is a lens that’s considerably lighter, noticeably shorter, with a much slimmer profile than any previous lens in its class, and that provides faster, quieter auto-focusing.

Signature features that have made this amazingly versatile lens the world standard in its class have been retained. They include a 28-419mm equivalent (15X) zoom range, an improved, lightweight, compact Vibration Compensation (VC) system, macro focusing to 19.3 inches throughout, and, of course, superlative imaging performance.

Contest Rules:

As Tamron USA Inc, the sponsor of this contest, is responsible for sales and marketing in the USA only, no shipment to winner can be made outside of the USA. If you reside outside the United States, the Lens will ship to MCP Actions, and we will ship it to you, but you will be responsible for the shipping costs as well as any duties, taxes, or tariffs.

Winner will be picked via random drawing on Monday, February 28th and announced on the MCP Blog.

Just wondering why all of your contests require a facebook account? I do not have a facebook account because I am opposed to it, and I will not sign up for one. That prevents me from entering any of your contests though.

    1. This lens is so hugely versatile. 18-270 would encompass my other lenses thereby eliminating my need to swap lenses and get my camera dirty. I could get in close at sporting events (husband coaches highschool football) and also get the close up shots of the crowds. We do a log ot hiking and this lens would be great for the same thing, close ups and telephoto without the risk of changing lenses.
    2. I’m still very amateur at shooting so I’m not sure I have a favorite yet but guessing I would say around 35
    3. liking you now (again)

    2. I love shooting on my 75-300. I am just beginning and tend to use more towards the 200-300 end and keep a bit of distance. Indoors however, I’d like some zoom and don’t get enough with my 50.

Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?
-I’ve been looking into buying my third lens and have been looking into Tamron lenses. I think this lens would help because of it’s wide range of focal points!! No need to switch my lens up so often and can get more work done with one!

What is your favorite focal length to shoot?
-Lately I’ve loved being around 50mm.

Confirm that you “like” MCP Actions on Facebook – I DO!

    1. This lens would provide a great deal of versatility in my shooting, and allow me to travel with less overall glass when I’m concert shooting.. Additionally, I need this lens, because my current wide, is broken.. Sigh.

    2. For normal shooting, I prefer a focal length of 50mm.. That’s not always possible, though.

    1. I would love this lens because I only have a 35mm lens at the moment, which I do love, but I really miss something longer and a zoom for when I am out and about with my own kids.

    2. I don’t really have a favourite focal length, I think it depends on the situation and what you are trying to achieve as to what length you choose. Which is why a nice zoom would be so great!

1.Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?
It’s an extremely versitile zoom lens. I also don’t own anything in the telephoto range, so being able to go beyond 135 would open things up for me in some areas.
2.What is your favorite focal length to shoot?
Either 50 or 85. It varies so much from shot to shot, but those are the prime lenses I use the most. With zoom, I don’t always pay attention, just turn until it looks right.
3.Confirm that you “like” MCP Actions on Facebook – if you do not confirm this, your entry will NOT count (go here to “like us” if you have not prior.

I Need this lens badly.. would love to have the flexablity of a zoom with a wide range for sudden opportunities that come up without having to stumble for changing lenses so I can get nature and animal shots while shooting landscapes on my vacation to the north shore of Superior this summer.

My favorite focal length might be hard to determine, I use my 60 mm macro or 18-85 mm most of the time

Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography? I’ve had my Canon XT since they were brand new on the market to replace my film Canon rebel. I’ve also had the same kit lens (18-55mm) since then. I started a 365 (on day 52) and I’ve fully extended the kit lens (only one I have.) I want to take candid portraits of my kids and not have to worry about having the right lens and missing the moment to change it. I want to take more landscape photos and be able to zoom past the power lines in the way.

What is your favorite focal length to shoot? It really depends on the subject. Most of my shots are taken at around 50mm as it gives me the best chance to capture the natural beauty around me as my eye sees it.

Confirm that you “like” MCP Actions on Facebook – if you do not confirm this, your entry will NOT count (go here to “like us” if you have not prior). —I have “liked” the page already. This is how I found the contest. Thanks.

Need is a strong word. Especially since Pentax wasn’t listed as a body it might work on, so I’d use is as a trade with my brother for his cool lens that he had for is old pentax.

I have a ok lens right now, but would always like faster glass. It’s hard to say what focal length I usually work with, cause I do a lot of switching up between closups and far-offs. I generally like to “fill the frame” wherever that ends up.

I do “like” you on facebook. and follow on an RSS feed. (maybe overkill, but would hate to miss anything)

Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?

I need this lens for wedding photography. It would make it a world of difference being able to get close ups of the bride/groom in the ceremony (specially in churches where you aren’t always allowed to get up close) or of guests

What is your favorite focal length to shoot?
    I generally shoot with a 50mm

    1) I have the 18-55 and 75-300, and this would be a great replacement for both of them!
    2) I usually like to shoot around 50mm-75mm, but sometimes, with running subjects (toddlers), I need to use 200mm.
    3) I’m already a fan!

Q1. Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?
It would be the perfect all in one lens to have with me while I was out with my sons taking pictures of them on their dirt bikes do jumps. I can caught wide angel of the whole jump and up close of their faces. Or if I have to stand far away I can zoom in

Q2. What is your favorite focal length to shoot? It veries on what I’m shooting. Portrait 50mm

1.Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?
    - Such a large focal range, it would lighten my camera bag significantly. I’ve wanted to try a 3rd party brand lens for quite some time and have been shy. I’ve heard good things about tamron lenses as well.
2.What is your favorite focal length to shoot?
    - My favorite focal length right now is 50mm. I find myself often wishing I had a quality zoom lens instead of being forced to move so much or miss shots due to distance.

I would love this lens because it would be great when I shoot weddings. It is ver versatile and I could switch focal lens quickly with one lens instead of having two cameras with 2 different focal length, I could do a wide angle shot of the church and a nice close up of the bride and groom without having to change lenses.

    My favorite length is 50

    1. I would really like this lens because for me, this is the most versatile, take along in the car, lens one could want. I owned a Quantaray similar to this one – and I apparently over-used it to the point that it broke. I’ve sinced replaced it with a Canon 24-200 which just doesn’t cut it. My kids swim competitively and I need a go-to lens to shoot close and far quickly!!

    2. My most constant length is about 50.

I am just beginning a venture into photography! I have three active small children and so the budget is SUPER short for great lens like this Tameron model! 1) Our first born is a boy and I can already SEE the great baseball and football pictures! OR the fantastic motions shots of our girls twirling about during dance! I love that it has both a wide angel and a macro focus, it is like having too great lens in one! And the fact that it is light means it won’t weight me down while I am carrying snacks for the three year old, dolls for the five year old, and random animals or bugs for my seven year old son!
    2) The best lens I have right now, the one I can always count on, is my Nikkor 50mm f1.8! I LOVE THAT LENS!!
    3) I am a new “liker” to the MCP action page, but I just used it to download my Fusion action for FREE! Thank you so much! I had never used an action before and your web tutorials made it super easy!!!!!!!!!! This is the first image I used it on, below :)

What a wonderful giveaway. I would love this lens. I just sold my tamoron zoom without VC in hopes to get one with VC. It would help me in so many ways. 1. I don’t own a single zoom lens. Only primes. With my full-frame camera I would be going for the 28-300 lens, and the thought of that type of range is far too exciting. This would be the perfect addition to my little lens family :).

    2. I primarily shoot at a focal length of 50mm on a full frame camera, which is equivalent to 35mm for most dSLR cameras.

    1. I need this lens because it has such a nice range of focal lengths and it is so light. It would be awesome to be able to carry one lens that does so much instead of a whole bag of lenses. It is a lens that I could use for my studio work, and my outdoor photography. And I’ve been needing a zoom lens for awhile now!

    Jodie says:

    1. I currently have a f/2.8 70-200mm Tamron for my Nikon and love it. I do mainly equine/pet photography and would love to be able to have such a wide range to choose from with a 18-270mm lens. That extra 70mm would be great when I’m at horse shows and need to get just a bit closer. Or the 18mm would be great to take in the entire scene at a show.

    2. Whatever works best for the subject. :) At horse shows, I’m normally shooting closer to 200mm unless the horse is a bit closer up and then I love the great sharpness of around 100mm.

    3. I not only “like” MCP actions on FB, I love it!

  113. 113

    1. I need this lens as I only have the 18-55mmkit (which I never use)and a 50mm 1.4. I NEED a zoom lens, I miss out on many outdoor shots by not having a zoom lens. This lens will help me grow as a photographer by allowing me to move closer without physically moving closer!
    2. 50mm, it’s very natural.
    3. I “like” MCP for sure! :D

I live in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, and opportunities for landscape and nature photography surround me and I need this lens to capture those shots!

    2. I don’t really have a favorite focal length to shoot right now, since all I have is my kit lens and I am just getting started.

#1.) I need this Lens because I have found something I am so passionate about (photography),but do not have the means to take it to the next level just yet. I am recent college grad that has not had any luck in the job search due to a sub-par economy. Since I can not acquire a job or enough money for a fancy lens, I have just been practicing with my standard 18-55 mm lens that came with my Canon that I worked vigorously for. I know $700 for a camera may not seem like much to a professional, but it was a fortune for me and I am so proud to say that it is one of my most valuable belongings. I would love more than anything to have a more advanced lens to do what I love the most.

#2.)My favorite length to use would be my 18-55mm since that is all I have practiced with.

    1) My daughter is at the age now where she runs around in the parks a lot. Being able to take those close ups when shes off playing would be fantastic. There’s only so much i can do with the 18-55mm. So this Telephoto would transform the quality of my shots of her in the outdoors.
    2) My fav length has to be around 50mm

    1. I “need” this lens because I spend a lot of time outside with my family, which includes my 2-year-old granddaughter and our two basset hounds. I always have my Nikon with me, but I miss shots because my zoom range is too narrow, and there’s not enough time to switch lenses!
    2. My fav length is around 35.
    3. I “liked” your fb page months ago – still enjoy it :)

    1. Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?

Another great contest from MCP Actions. You guys rock!

Why do I need this lens? I shoot mainly sports, from t-ball to adult activities and the flexibility that 18-270 mm provides is essential. Also the VC feature will come in very handy running up and down the sidelines getting set up for that perfect shot.

My favorite focal length is probably right around 85mm, that’s where i am able to capture the best action and emotion.

I’m a big fan on facebook and have shared the contest on my personal page, my photography page and on my blogspot at MNGPhotography.

    2. I have a 50D, so while I love my 85mm lens and use it frequently, it’s a little too “close up” for shooting indoors. I probably would shoot most around 35-50mm.

I’ve upgraded to a Canon to get better shots. I really need another lense..I have only one. 1. The lens would enable me to get more shots, have greater focal range, and change my lenses less! I have two lenses, a 17-50mm and 50-150mm, so I have to switch them out to change focal ranges. It would be great to have one lens that covers the entire 18-270mm range, especially for a walk-around lens. I love photography!

    1. Why do I need this lens? LOL! I’m a mother of three kids: 8 , 5 and 5 months. While this lens might not get a ton of “professional” use by me, my kids don’t get a ton of “professional” pictures shot by me either. It’s so much easier to set up and photograph someone else’s. I would love this lens (and it’s next on my to buy list) b/c it would allow to have on at all times and wide and tele lens when I am with my kids. It’s too hard to drag three, or even two lenses with me with three kids. So I end up with less then stellar point and shoot pics or nothing at all.

    2) I love to shoot above 85mm. I love the shallow depth of field above that range. I also love to stand back and photograph the “action” in life without be obtrusive. It always make the subject jump off the page.

My replies to the following questions:
    1. 1.Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?
A- I really “need” this lens as a photographer just starting in my business to expand on the very basic starter equipment I have. And with a very shocking, traumatic life change that has recently happened to me, it’s extremely difficult for me to be able to afford the additional equipment that I “need” & want to be able to expand & improve my potential as a photographer just starting out in the business.
    2. 2.What is your favorite focal length to shoot?
A- I haven’t quite figured out my favorite length to shoot, but 1 favorite that I absolutely love is macro. Also, I would love this Tamron lens so that I have the additional 70mm from my 55-200mm to be able to better shoot the moon.
    3. I’ve already “Liked” the MCP Actions page on Facebook quite some time ago & am definitely a fan of all the free actions, as well as the informative Blog posts :-)

    3) Yes I am a “liker” of MCP Actions!!! :)

    1. I currently shoot with a 70-200mm from the 1970′s that does not AF on my camera body. It’s challenging to say the least! I would kill for this lens – talk about versatile. I SO “need” it – what an incredible walkaround lens. Love wide angles for architecture and travel, and 100mm+ for the compression and lovely bokeh in portraits.
    2. My “best” glass is a 50mm 1.4 and I do like that prime focal length, but my photography “life” would really change immensely with this Tamron.
    3. I of course “like” MCP Actions on FB. Thanks for this great giveaway. Someone will be a VERY lucky winner.

    1. I travel a lot and see a lot of spectacular places. This lens would be a great lightweight addition to my pack, as my current options are an 18-55mm kit lens and a 50mm prime lens. These are okay but not great options when it comes to trying to get details on sites that are not easily gotten to or are blocked off.
    2. Between 100-200mm.

    1. This lens would make catching those “moments” a lot easier. I feel like I’m constantly having to swap my lenses out, especially since the zoom lens that came with my camera body isn’t all that great. Right now my only good lens is a 50 mm, and a nice solid zoom lens would make things a lot better!
    2. I love wide angle shots, so probably around 35 mm or lower. This lens would help me out!

    1. I would love to have this lens b/c of the shooting ranges you get with it. As a newbie just starting my business, I don’t have a bunch of lenses to choose from, and with this lens, it would solve my needs. I love shooting outdoors, and this would be great to get those tighter shots and those that are farther away, say like of children playing in a field, without having to chase them quit so much :)
    2. As of now, my favorite focal length is probably 50mm.
    3. I am already a fan on facebook and have been for some time now.

    1. Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?

I shoot weddings, engagements, childrens sessions, etc and this
lens would provide a greater distance to be able to get the shot
I need especially in a wedding situation without having to be
so close to the subjects and allowing them to have a more intimate
    moment.

    2. My favorite focal length lately has been between 70-90, but I also love the upper range so I can not be “in their face”

    3. Already like you FB.

    1. I think I would particularly love this lens for weddings, especially during the ceremony, as my primary lenses during ceremonies are the 24-70 and the 135mm (I haven’t been able to pocket $$$$ for the 70-200 yet!). But the Tamron 18-270mm could really save me from constantly swapping between the two lenses, and I love it’s range!

    2. Between 35-50mm is my fave.

    3. I’ve always been a MCP fan! :)

Hmmm….I don’t know what happened to my 1st comment :-( So, here it is again. I apologize in advance if it shows up, and I end up with it posted twice.

    To answer the 3 Questions;
    1. Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?
A- As a photographer just getting started out in business, I “need” this new Tamron lens to help me in expanding from my basic starting equipment to help me in being able to improve my photography by having more than just the starter basics. And being that I’ve just very recently gone through an extremely shocking/traumatic life event on top of my disability, it is now going to be very difficult financially for me to be able to expand on my equipment “needs” so that I’m able to offer better quality as a professional photographer.
    2. What is your favorite focal length to shoot?
A- I haven’t quite figured out an exact focal length I like to shoot yet, but I will say that 1 of my absolute loves is macro photography. I would also love the additional 70mm this Tamron lens would give me from my 55-200mm lens so that I’m able to better shoot the moon.
    3. I’ve already been a “fan” of MCP Actions on Facebook for some time now; enjoying the free actions offered, as well as love the informative blog posts that I’m always reading :-)

  305. 305

    1. I would love this lens, such versatility for all my shooting needs, from shooting my 3 year old at close range to taking pictures of animals at the zoo at the back of their enclosures, sounds like a wonderful all around lens!
    2. Hard to pick a favorite length, I love my 50 mm prime as well as my 35mm prime, so I guess I have 2 :)

    1. I NEED this lens because I currently only have a 50 mm. I need something to capture my little clients and my own wiggly children without being so “in their face”. This lens will allow me to hang back and capture moments from afar.

    1. I “neeed” this lens because as a newly budding photographer, I’m going broke trying to get the equipment I need to build up my business. Having a versatile lens like this would put me one step closer to getting out of my job as a RN (which is killing my back and my sanity) and getting into my dream job as a photographer :)
    2. My favorite focal length to shoot is 50mm.
    3. I do, in fact, “LIKE” MCP actions on FB

  336. 336

    1. I need this lense because I take quite a few wildlife photos but never seem to be close enough to cqapture the image the way I see it in my mind. I also LOVE taking candid shots of people and with a larger lense I can get the shot without being in the action.
    2. it really varies depending on the subject
    3. Definately LIKE on Facebook

I have added a text link to MCP’s site to the top of my blog!

I need this lens because I only have the basic one that came with my camera and I can’t afford another one right now. I am trying to learn more about photography, but am pretty new to it. I really want a lens with a longer focal range because I think it would help me catch better candid shots of my daughter and her friends if I didn’t have to get right up in their faces.

I guess my favorite focal length is about 18mm because that is what my lens does best right now.

    I am a facebook fan

  339. 339

I absolutely love this lens. I am a fan of MCP Actions and use them all the time. I think this lens would further my career with my Wedding shots and seniors.

    1. this would be a great “walking around” lens to replace my 28-135mm (which I love, but would really appreciate extending that range to require even fewer lens-swaps), especially on my upcoming trip to Argentina next month!!!!!

    1. I need and want this lens because I don’t have any lenses that wide or that long. A mentor of mine, who is a certified, master photographer uses this lens and suggested it to me. She tells me it just about stays on her camera. I think it will probably stay on mine too, you just can’t beat that range. I have a Canon 70-200 but it is so huge to carry around.
    2. My favorite focal length is 85mm.

Like many others on here I’m trying to build my photography business in a tough economy and I feel like this lens will give me the versitility to capture those shots I need to take my business to the next level.

    2. I like to shoot at 50mm as that’s the lens I use most often. I also love shooting wide when I’ve had the opportunity to do so!

    3. I am a fan of MCP on FB! Have been for a while! :)

I am 50 yrs. old and would need this lens. Wanted to do photogrphy as a child but we could never afford something like that growing up. SO I finally got myself a nikon D90 and takening classes at the college, and yes Im following my dreams…I love wildlife photography, and this would be great with the grandkids around I could get the best of all world’s…lol :) AS im learning portrait as well I think that it would also be a gret portrait, and close up photography (macro) as well. I guess my favorite focal length would have to be 300 for distance and I could shoot below that range when needed with this lens. I am a fan of you on f/b and love the textures and actions of your’s. I follow you on pioneer woman as well. Thanks for all you do. Pic. attatched. SCREECH OWL : EYES ON ME LOL!!!

  378. 378

I received my first DSLR (the Canon T2i) for Christmas, but I only have the kit lense (18-55). I am looking for a 250mm lense to add to my bag. 2. It all depends on what I’m shooting 50-85 is great for portraits, but 400 is much better for birds ;)

    3. I sure have! That’s how I got here :)

    1. I really really need this lens because I just upgraded my camera and I cannot afford to get a zoom lens right now. And I truly need a zoom lens to keep in my arsenal of lenses to capture all the moments of a shoot! Plus I love Tamron lenses – I had several of them with my old Nikon that I sold when I made the switch to Canon.

    2. I don’t know that I have a favorite focal length? It depends on what I’m shooting – but I picture myself using this particular lens for sports photography!!

    3. Jodi know I’m all over her MCP Actions page on Facebook – not only do I like it – I love it!! And I liked the post about the giveaway!!

This lens would be a great asset not only for my personal interest and love of photography but also for the photography business I work with. Right now its just my friend who started the business and myself. Between the two of us we have only two quality lenses. The 18-270 Tamron lens would help us tremendously as we are going to start wedding season soon!

I have a lot of “favorite” lenses but so far the 24-70mm, 2.8 f, has been my favorite. It has a nice range but also that low fstop so I can get some blur in the background.

I have already been following MCP Actions on Facebook and love reading the articles & seeing edited pictures!

    1. I LOVE detail. My greatest wish is to have one lens that would allow me to truly capture the detail of the wonderful nature around me in rural N. Florida. Right now I am limited to a 55mm length. This lens would open a whole new telephoto world for me as nature photographer.

    2. Right now my favorite shooting length is “AS CLOSE AS I CAN GET”. I love the detail of macro shots that captures far more then the human eye is able to see.

    3. I love MCP Actions! I discovered it last week and have already downloaded several actions and can’t quit playing with them. What a difference!! i love to shoot around 50mm. i have an 28-70 mm tamron that i LOVE! and i have a 50mm 1.8 that i sort of love but its a manual focus which makes it harder to shoot with running kids. i had a 70-300 that my husband dropped and i cant replace bc he is out of work and his unemployment ran out so we have no extra spending ;( so this would be ammmmmmazing for me!!! totally amazing. i already love love love mcp actions on FB and i subscribed to the feed and i tweeted the contest!

I would love this lens for child and family photography. Capturing an intimate moment between parents in child from afar and then zooming would lead to some fantastic images! My only zoom is the 24-70 so I am lacking a longer zoom on both ends of the spectrum. I think I would love the 18 too!

My favorite focal length right now is 50 mm. I love the bokeh I get with the 1.4 and love the low light ability.

I like you on facebook, it’s how I found out about the contest.

    1. Every time I go out to a place where I plan to get some nice shots, I have to carry two lenses , 18-55 and 70-300 , it is so inconvenient changing lenses in between especially if it’s a scene which is changing like those wonderful sunset moments. I would love to have the Tamron 18-270 which would be such a lovely addition and can replace all the lenses and bag I have to take , I can hook up just one lens and be done with it.

    2. I like to shoot at 18-20mm for landscapes and 135mm for people and faces

There are so many reasons I need this lens. I am in the beginning stages of starting a photo business so more lenses in my arsenal is always a good thing. And having a lens that will hit so many different focal lengths would be even more helpful. Plus I don’t have anything below my 35mm-80mm kit lens. I need a good wide angle.

    Joanna says:

    1. I could really use this lens as I shoot a lot of wedding photography and need a broad zoom range and something fast not to miss that special moment! Sometimes I am up close and personal but sometimes due to the rules of the church I have to be super far away so I could definitely use a much further zoom the 28-75mm I currently use for weddings. Also, the wider angle would help a ton for my indoor studio portraits as my studio is quite limited on space, only about a 11×11 room.

    2. It really depends on what I am photographing but I seem to like to hang around 50-75mm, I seem to get the best, crisp, sharp results from that range.

    3. I already “like” MCP actions on facebook and follow them closely :)

  502. 502

1&2. I think the lens would be a fabulous addition to my hobbyist set. I only have the kit and a prime lens and the smoothness of my 35mm means I keep it on my camera about 95% of the time. I think if I had a zoom lens that also had a nice slightly wider focal length, I would use it a lot! Especially with my kids who are always on the go.

    3. I like MCP on Facebook (Lisa Gutierrez).

    2. It depends what I am shooting. Outdoors I typically shoot between 200mm and 300mm and inside I really like the 50mm focal length.

I currently only have two lenses by having this lens it will save me time from having to change lenses because this lens has the perfect focal lengths. I also am starting to photograph children and I know this lens will be perfect for the job and will give me excellent results!

I have liked MCP Actions on FB for awhile :)

    Dave B says:

    1. I need this lens because I don’t have the money to buy it, and it would probably stay on my camera 99% of the time. That, and I sell everyone on what I do buy, so it would be in the best of Tamron’s interests to give me one so I can get others to buy it. (:
    2. I honestly like every range. I like really wide (11mm) but realistically I use the whole range of every lens I own. That’s why I’d love this lense.
    3. Yes- I’m a fan on FB and always will be.

  541. 541

    1. I’m a photography enthusiast that is limited with a budget that would not allow me to purchase equipment like this. I’m new to DSLR photography and am teaching myself as much as possible with the assistance of purchased books that pretty much eliminate funds for luxury glass, which may be a staple of other photographers’ everyday kit

    2. Right now 50mm (85mm since I purchases a DX)) due to the interest of portraits; however I immensely enjoy landscape photography…experimenting with HDR.

Q1: I need this lens because I really do not have a good wide angle zoom! I basically only use my 50mm! I have 2 kids and its getting harder and harder to chase them around with the fixed lens.
Q2: My favorite length to shoot is 50mm
    Q3: Liked you!

  543. 543

Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?
    A) I have been in the market for a lens like this for my full frame camera for months now… but with all the reviews I have been hesitant to pull the trigger, winning this lens would do it for me. This lens would maximize the strength of my new full frame lens, today I have a fixed 50mm and a 70-300 lens for that camera if I had the versatility of an 18-270 it would change my world!
What is your favorite focal length to shoot? – I don’t have a favorite, I love the versitility of a zoom lens. Although I love my fixed focal length lenses I find myself running around like a crazy woman.

Woohoo! This post sure caught my eye! This new lens recently was added to my wish list of lenses so I was so excited to see this give away. Why do I need this?….It’s an amazing zoom lens….WITH vibration control!!!! When I read about this lens in my photography magazine I was imediately in love and had to add it to the top of my wish list…..just behind the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 lens. Why that lens….to answer your second question….it’s my favorite focal length! I feel with these two lenses, I’ll have all the coverage that I need and want. I’ve researched a lot and these two are my top choices! It would be AMAZING to win this lens! And to answer your final qusetion….I absolutely “like” MCP Actions on facebook!

    1. Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?
I have a Canon f/1.4 50mm and the Tamron 17-55 f/2.8 and this lens would provide me with a everyday lens plus some zoom that I am currently missing.
    2. What is your favorite focal length to shoot?
    17 – 55mm, occasionally 200 – 300 mm for landscapes.
    3. Confirm that you “like” MCP Actions on Facebook – if you do not confirm this, your entry will NOT count (go here to “like us” if you have not prior)

    1. It would be great to have one versatile lens that I can carry around. I have wanted to capture a picture of a red-tail hawk that sits high above in our tree and watches our dachshund! This sounds like the perfect lens!

    3. I have “liked” you for awhile on FB but I’m going now to confirm!

  558. 558

1.Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?
I have mostly prime lenses, which work great for my business, but I’m longing for a zoom lens so I can take photos of my own kids’ sporting events.

2.What is your favorite focal length to shoot?
I shoot mostly portraits, so I primarily use my 50mm, 1.4.

3.Confirm that you “like” MCP Actions on Facebook – if you do not confirm this, your entry will NOT count (go here to “like us” if you have not prior)
I already “like” MCP Actions on Facebook (www.facebook.com/cristen26)

    Viki Reed says:

I desperately need this lens! I currently have the 24-70 L canon but it won’t give me the bokeh or the distance I really need that this Tamron would give me. I have a 200mmL but that was for bird photos and some action stuff-either way it’s not wide enough and again the Tamron would solve that. I’ve sold all I can and work has been DEAD slow. My family can’t afford another lens but I dearly need it. Please lady luck.

Currently my fav lens is my 50mm. I added a shot I took with it. The only thing better would be the 50mmL….someday….

WOW!! I would dieeee with this lens!!!!! I have recently gotten into wedding photography and right now the longest focal length I have is 70mm (24-70mm). This lens would allow me to capture those GREAT moments without being noticed!!!! I think right now my fav focal length would be 50mm….my prime of course. I think that is because that is what I most used to, but I think I would instantly fall in love with the 200mm ;-)

    Chris says:

I’d love this lens because of the wide reach. I like to take pictures at my husband’s softball games, and having one zoom to cover the range of my two zooms would be terrific!

I don’t have a favorite focal length, I like to take pictures of too many different things.

And yes, I “like” you on facebook!

  571. 571

    1. One can never have too many lenses. Though right now I am working with the kit lens because my 70-200mm telephoto lens broke and we don’t have the money to get it fixed at the moment! And this is the length I have been coveting!!

    2. It depends on what I am shooting and what mood I am in and what picture idea wants out of my head!!

    Sarah! says:

    1. It would be a great lens to have for walking around outside with clients.

    2. lately 50mm but I’ve been aching for wider angles. I’m a prime snob but this would be great for an all purpose lens for adventures.

    3. totally dig mcp already!

  578. 578

I just downloaded your actions. Fantastic !!

  579. 579

1 – I would love to have a lens as versitile as this, I currently only use a 35mm & while I love the sharpness & fastness of this lens I do oftentimes feel limited without having the option to zoom in/out.
2 – My favorite focal length at this point would have to be 35mm since I don’t have other options, but I know I’d love to be able to pull back to 18 at times when shooting indoors & to have the ability to zoom even to 100-150 mm would be great, so the thought of being able to zoom to 270 with this lens is very exciting.

    3 – I like you already :)

  587. 587

I NEED this lens because I am a family/kids lifestyle photographer and I love to capture the whole picture of what’s going on in a photo-journalistic way. My current zoom is on it’s last leg, and only gets to 3.5! I love shooting at 50 mm, but would love to have the option without having to use a fixed lens as I am now.

This lens would be awesome for horse shows. The versatility in one lens would be so much easier than lugging two or three lenses (or bodies and lenses) all day. I’ve missed so many shots because I couldn’t change lenses fast enough to capture the shot I wanted.

My favorite focal length really depends on what I’m shooting. Right now I use the 24-70, the 85, and 70-200. Of the three, I probably use the 85 the most. It would be super nice to have these all in one.

I liked you on FB quite a while back!!

    2. It really varies…currently I’ve been shooting a lot outdoors, so the wider lenses are on my camera the most…i.e. 21mm.

    1. I am so timid to switch out lenses on my camera. I always worry I’m going to drop a lens or get dust in the sensor of whatever. I’d like to have this lens on my camera most of the time and not miss any shots of my kids.

    2. I used to have a 50mm for my Canon that I loved but I’ve since sold my Canon and got a Nikon D90. I have yet to buy a 50mm but it’s on my wishlist.

    2. It depends on what I’m shooting… for portraits I love my 50mm but I do a lot of landscape work as well and am normally at about 20mm

    3. I have “liked” MCP for awhile

I am about a year into photography as a business and am just beginning to explore all of the photography options available to me. I would love the Tamron 18-270mm Di II VC PZD Lens for my Canon camera because it seems to offer the versatility that I use on outdoor photo sessions. The lightweight aspect of the lens intrigues me because lugging around a heavy lens on a 2 or 3 hour photo shoot is quite cumbersome. As far as my favorite focal length to shoot, I guess I like the 100 to 135 range although I try to shoot at a variety of ranges. I am a friend of MCP Actions on FaceBook and really enjoy all of the information I receive from them. Thanks!

    1. Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?
I shot a wedding back in October. My first. And boy would I have LOVED this lens! There were instances where I needed that wide angle of an 18mm, and in the same breath, I could have easily gone to 200mm+. Plus, I enjoy doing outdoor shoots and it would be great to have the versatility of a lens like this! I would totally make my photography life a LOT easier.

    2. What is your favorite focal length to shoot?
Hmmmm…it really depends on what I’m shooting. I like 50mmish though.

    3. Confirm that you “like” MCP Actions on Facebook – if you do not confirm this, your entry will NOT count (go here to “like us” if you have not prior)

Hi Jodi! What a great giveaway…loving the blog lately especially last weeks articles on mixing personal with work stuff…it gave me lots to ponder.
Anyways, I would LOVE to win this lens. Right now my main lens is a 24-70 2.8 and I have a 50mm prime….they are fabulous for most things I do but I long for a better zoom when it comes to school events, sports and trying to keep up with my three boys and capture them or others without knowing. I am also doing a little photography club at our school now for the older kiddos and a zoom would be a nice addition to add for something for them to learn from….they have been keen to find the owl’s nest in the huge willow tree at the school park but my camera doesn’t have the range needed. Since meeting you in Banff I have slowly built up savings for photography stuff twice and then had to spend them on car brakes and most recently a new dishwasher! I did a facebook like on this contest as I already liked you, suggested MCP to my friends, I added a RSS feed, and I’ll add a banner to Snicks tonight…. http://www.snickerdoodles.typepad.com
Still interested in doing a guest post sometime…let’s chat sometime soon.

I don’t see my previous comment… I hope you got it. I REALLY NEED this lense! I love everything I have learned from you so far and thank you for all that I will continue to learn!

I want to answer the questions again just to make sure you got them.

    1. I NEED this lense because I am just starting my own photography business and I have a 3yr old and a 6month old. i spend all my money on them getting them the things they need. I never buy anything for myself so I would really appreciate having this lense.

    2. I only have a couple of lenses, so this would be a wonderful addition. My 50mm is my favorite so far for portraits.

    3. Not only do I “LIKE” MCP on facebook… I LOVE you! And I have for quite some time and will continue to do so!

    Laura Miller says:

    1. I would use this as a delicious walk around lens! What an amazing range! LOVE IT! I need this so that I don’t have to switch lenses on a shoot. I could quickly go from a landscape, to a birdscape, to a peoplescape with no trouble! It’s a super lens! :D
    2. My favorite length to shoot is 50mm(1.6) or 85mm(full frame)
    3. I do like MCP on facebook. That is how I heard about this!

  710. 710
    Sarah Reimer says:

    1. I hate changing lenses during a shoot – especially shooting children. Having the wide angle to zoom in 1 lightweight lens would be amazing!
    2. I would say I shoot around 100mmish the most.
    3. I have Liked you of FB! :)

  711. 711
    Willems Bianca says:

I “need” this lens because I’m building up my portfolio and I really need a good quality zoom lens. I’m still learning which focal length I like the best but possibly 35 or 50.

    Lindsay says:

    1. looooooove Tamron! I love the range of this lens. I have the 24-70 but this one would give me such a larger range. I could take it anywhere and know everything would be covered.

    2. My favorite focal length is about 60mm.

    3. you are liked on facebook:)

  719. 719

    1. I would love a lighter, better more versatile lens!

    1. Winning this lens would be great as I have been trying to save to buy one like this ,but something always happens and I can’t seem to save and if I win one I can use the money I do save to put gas in the old clunker to get somewhere to play with the lens!
2.Right now I can only shoot at 50 but to shoot at 270 would be a dream come true!
    3. I liked I liked :)

  721. 721
    Wenmei says:

    1. I would love to have the Tamron 28-300mm VC (I have a full-frame camera) because I don’t have a lens in this range and having been wanting one as a more versatile, “all-in-one” option for when I don’t want to haul around a bag full of lenses. I’ve been wanting something in the 300mm focal length for awhile now so that I can have another perspective on my portraiture, and I’d love to be able to capture moments on the sports field or playground without having to run right into the middle of the action.
    2. I used to shoot with my 50mm prime all the time, but I’m starting to really enjoy a wider angle, especially 24mm.
    3. Yep, I’ve “liked” MCP Actions on FB for awhile now, and I also get the RSS feed.

I need a new lense in the worst way , because on Christmas day this last year my beloved Minolta 7D died, and in the process damaged my favorite lense, which was close in focal length to this. I now have the Sony A55 and love it, but need to get back my favorite lense.
I rarely use one length more than another, my passion is wildlife photography, so I often go big with that, but with children and their sports I never know what I will need. Since getting the Sony I am in love with macro shots as well!!!
Of course I like like you on Facebook, would even love you if that was a button!

    2. on’t really have a favorite focal length as of yet. I love doing close-ups and showing detail in my photographs. I take a majority of my pictures between a focal lenght of 30-70.
    3. I like on facebook!

  730. 730
    Mary says:

    1. Glad “need” is in quotes. Need is so subjective – but I use a 28-70 as my “walkaround” lens, and find that I need more reach sometimes. An 18-200 would be a great help!
    2. Depends on what I ‘m shooting – but I find a lot of my shots are between 60-70 on my APS-C Canon 40d
    3. Yup – already done!

    Brecken says:

    1. I need this lens because I only have one camera body, and switching lenses while trying to keep my kids looking cute is neigh to impossible. But the kit lens doesn’t have a big enough f stop for inside shots, and the nifty 50 is so close up.

    2. I love to shoot at 50, for portraits but would love to get some wider angels.

    Melissa Reintjes says:

    1. This lens would be just what I need, want, and love!!! I am looking into a new more universal lens, this being one on the list, that would fit perfectly in my camera bag and lens line up! Having a young child, and a cousin who is very active in sports, the 18 would be great for the sporting events.
    2. I would have to say my favorite focal length is 50mm.

    3. Have been a big fan for a while and love to use their stuff!

  740. 740

I NEED this lens for sports photography. I do a lot of football and baseball pictures and this would help me always have the lens on camera to catch the action. Even with 2 cameras often the action is too quick to switch from one to the other to get the action shot.

    50mm favorite focal length

Long time facebook fan of MCP.

    What a great contest!!

1- It would be great to have a lens that covers a wider range of focal length so that I don’t have to change lenses. I do a lot of children/family photography, and have several weddings this year, and it would be great to have such a versatile lens for quick captures instead of missing something while changing lenses.

2- My all time favorite focal length is 85 mm :-) Especially wonderful for those up close and personal baby photos :-)

    1. I have been saving for a Canon 7D and just ordered it this morning. This lens was next on my list to start saving for because it will be a great walk around lens since it can shoot close and far. It will be great for my personal use needs. It would allow me to NEVER miss a shot with my kids while I am changing a lens. I love how lightweight it is and that it switches between focal points so smoothly. I have messed with it a lot at my local photography shop and it is super nice.

    2. Favorite focal length…I am still figuring that out. For people -50mm, for flowers/macro-18 for landscape-270. See this lens does all of that! How stinking cool is that?

    3. I have “liked” on facebook.

This lens will help me in my class dramatically. I don’t have a whole lot of mone to spend for thie class and therefore, i’m still using the 18-55mm default lens. I would be so happy if I won.

    2. What is your favorite focal length to shoot? I have a standard 18 to 55mm lens. It depends on what im shooting.

    1) Swapping back and forth between lenses is a pain. I use an 18-55 and 55-250 primarily.
    2) I usually shoot in the 18-250 focal lengths. 18, 55, and 250 being the most used lengths. This really is the perfect lens for me.

    2. My favorite focal length is a hard question to answer. I have really enjoyed being able to use the variety of focal lengths that a zoom lens such as this one provides. I usually use the full range to add a variety of the parts to the “story” that i am capturing. Even though I look for the variety, my favorite is usually the images that I capture on the telephoto end of the spectrum.

As someone who is “new” to digital photography, I have managed to buy a Nikon D90, which I love. However knowing which lens and why is totally baffling to me. I love shooting close ups and my current lens is the Nikkor 55-200VR. I used it with a used D40 that I had and for some reason I am not getting the quality shots that I was with the D40. I have scheduled a couple of local photography classes in order to jump start my love and passion for photography and this lens would absolutely seal the deal for me!!!

    1. Seriously, I NEED this lens, because my husband and I are just starting out and we only have a couple of lenses. (None in this length!) It could really help us have more options at weddings and mixing up a family session.

    2. My favorite focal length has to be 50mm. It has been the best I’ve experienced, yet!

    3. I “like” MCP on FB! :)

This lens would add a whole new dimension to my photography and would help me catch kids in action rather than being on top of them…
    Right now 50mm

    1. I would love to have this lens to take with me on my trip to Costa Rica this summer! It would be so convenient to be able to take pictures of the rainforest and then zoom in on a monkey all with the same lens!
I’m taking 24 students with me, so anything that adds to convenience would be great!
    2. I think I mostly shoot at around 50mm. I like to take pics of people and nature a lot and I usually end up around that focal length.
    3. I have liked MCP on facebook for a long time :)

I am currently trying to build my business by being thrifty and without getting any business loans or into debt…I really need a walk-around lens!
I like shooting around 35mm, still wide enough and not much distortion.

First I want to tell you how much I love your website, actions, give aways. Thanks for encouraging all of us. Second I just want to share that some of us do not use Facebook. We have chosen not to use it because we homeschool our kids and want to protect them from the dangers we believe it can (doesn’t always) offer. So I’m sad when I can not enter a contest because I’m not a facebook user. There still are some of us left out there in the world.
    Blessings,

    1) I shoot children who are moving constantly, so this lens would be a TREMENDOUS help to me! I would love to have the flexibility to zoom in and out without switching lenses.
    2) 50mm is my favorite.
    3) I “like” MCP Actions on FB!

    Thank you sooo much!

I could really use this lens. I hike with my camera and the focal length of this zoom would be perfect for me to do it all without the need for lens changes in the field or carrying a lot of extra equipment. I shoot landscapes at wide angle so 12 to 18 mm and also wildlife and then I am at the very end of my available focal length (200mm) for my current 55-200 lens. Many, many of my shots wind up at 200mm so perhaps that could be said to be my favorite (and I’m often wishing for a little more.

I liked MCP actions on Facebook.

    Jaclyn says:

    1. I need this lens because 18-200 would give me a very versatile range to shoot with. Currently I have a 24-85 (which gives me virtually no wide angle) and a 70-300 (so close I can only use it for things pretty far away). I would be able to keep the 18-200 on my camera for most shots instead of constantly switching lenses. I take pictures of people a lot and switching is a hassle – makes them wait.
    2. My favorite focal length is probably about 50-80mm (before the Nikon conversion factor).
    3. I do LIKE MCP on Facebook! And I’m a participant in MCP Project 52!

    1) This lens would come in so very handy. I like shooting from various distances and having to change out lenses is very frustrating and often times I miss the shot because of it.
    2) I typically shoot between 100 & 200
    3) I have been a fan for a while now :-) Thanks

    1. I LOVE detail that is why I NEED this lens. My dream has been to have 1 lens to shoot not only close-up but great telephoto shots also. I live in rural N. Florida where nature-based photography abounds. I strive to capture the everyday details of nature that are missed with the human eye.

    2. My favorite focal length at this time would be as “AS CLOSE AS I CAN GET”
Macro is amazing and I truly enjoy discovering things. That is why I would love the telephoto end of this great lens.

    3. I discovered you last week and I LIKE! LIKE! LIKE! on facebook and I have sent your site to several of my photography friends. Thanks for the chance to win this awesome lens.

1.I need this lens as I am just getting started and buying new lens is kind of hard right now. I would use this lens for everything; I have been looking and considering this exact lens. It would help me by being able to do a variety of different types of photos with this lens…portraits, landscape, etc.
2.I love around 100mm; I use that most of the time from looking back at my photos. It is nicely in the middle.
3.I have been a MCP fan on fb for a while, I love it.

Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography? – I don’t have a lens that is capable of longer focal distances, my longest is a 100mm macro, I have actually used it for portraits on occasion, but it isn’t quick enough to focus on children.
What is your favorite focal length to shoot? I really like about 50, whether with a prime or my 24-70

I “need” this lens because it’d be an awesome travel lens for me! When we’re traveling, I don’t want to be juggling a toddler while changing a lens. This one lens would serve almost all my needs! My favorite focal length is usually 50 mm with my prime. I like MCP on FB!

    1. Why do you “need” this lens/how would it help your photography?
My husband and I are going traveling around Australia in June and July this year and this will be the first holiday where I will own a dslr to take travel photos with. How amazing will it be if I had a one lens that could stay on my camera (not having to change lens’s) and never have to miss a shot!!

2.What is your favorite focal length to shoot?
It will depend on what I am shooting, if its a portrait generally around the 50mm but for travel I need the whole range, wide open for lansdcapes etc and close up for that beautiful “thing” growing on the side of a tree in a forest etc.

3.Confirm that you “like” MCP Actions on Facebook – if you do not confirm this, your entry will NOT count (go here to “like us” if you have not prior)

I need this lens to make it easier when outside especially at the lake taking pictures and kids sporting events where there is sand – no need to switch lenses. This would be the perfect range in one lens! I am still learning/working on my favorite range of shooting. Most of my pitures tend to be about 105-150 and then 27-55. I am an assistant wedding photographer at Jessica Hicks photography and I use a zoom lens at every wedding as most the time we are required to stay in the back of the church or the balcony. Unfortunately I only have the zoom hat came with my canon rebel a few years ago. I have since upgraded to a 40D, but have not yet been able to upgrade my zoom lens so my images suffer. I love to shoot at either 35 or 50mm the best, but the zoom is required for my job. I have been a fan of MCP actions for a long time now! I hope you pick me!!
