Canon is rumored to replace both the 5D Mark III and the 6D DSLRs with a single unit and it is not the 5D Mark IV / 5D X. According to this source, the 6D Mark II will serve as a successor to these cameras, as the new unit will gain more features when compared to the original 6D and will reduce the need for a true 5D Mark III heir.
