Have you purchased the new Elements 13 upgrade yet? Thinking about doing so? If so, this post is for you.
Elements 13 was released a few months ago and it has a few helpful new features:
- The Refine Selection tool is handy for those who create selections often. Use this tool to add areas to or subtract them from your selection. You can even use it to push the borders of your selection into or away from the current selection. And finally, use this tool to soften the edges of a selection.
- Crop Suggestions – when you activate the Crop tool, Elements 13 will evaluate faces, horizons and any other horizontal and vertical lines in your photo. It compares the results of this evaluation to compositional ideals and suggests one click crops for your image.
- Facebook users, Elements 13 now offers an easy way to create and upload Facebook covers!
We don’t talk a lot about video here at MCP, but Premiere Elements 13 is worth mentioning this year. Premiere is the companion to Photoshop Elements. You can buy it in a bundle with Elements or as a standalone product.
I’m excited about Premiere Elements 13 because of it’s new “Favorite Moments” feature. Think about the videos you have on your phone or camera right now. A large chunk of the video is not the best part to watch, right? The camera is rolling while you set it up and wait for the performance/first steps/surprise to begin. Favorite Moments makes it easy to tag the good stuff and combine the best moments from a video or group of videos into one concise and enjoyable movie.
You can also now add photos to your videos in a slideshow effect.
Should You Upgrade?
If you are still using Elements 10 or prior, yes! You should absolutely upgrade to Adobe Photoshop Elements 13. More recent versions of Elements make installing actions a breeze and have helpful editing tools like layer mask buttons and content aware spot healing.
Do our actions work in PS Elements 13?
Adobe’s changes to its software affected a couple of our actions in PSE13.
- Facebook Fix, our free action set that makes it easy to size and one or two images for posting on Facebook, required an update. You can download the freebies again and the new file for Elements 13 is included. VISIT HERE TO DOWNLOAD FACEBOOK FIX FREE ACTIONS.
The update also has a glitch that affects the rounded corners actions in Finish It. Finish It is the action set that makes sizing and branding your images a breeze, and it contains over 40 actions. 9 of them won’t work in Elements 13. This glitch happened in Photoshop CC as well, and was corrected in CC 2014. We hope that Adobe will correct it in the next version of Elements.
