Judge dismisses Nikon patent infringement lawsuit against Sigma

Back in 2011, Nikon filed a patent infringement lawsuit at the Tokyo District Court against Sigma. Nikon wanted a Japanese Judge to ban the sales of six Sigma lenses and sought compensations because the lenses featured built-in Vibration Reduction mechanism, a technology which was already patented by Nikon.

New lens patent that describes a 14-42mm and its 12-42mm variation has surfaced from the Konica Minolta camp. The f/3.5-5.6 lenses are interesting news as they are specifically made for Micro Four Thirds-sized sensors, suggesting that the company will join the Olympus and Panasonic in the MFT world.

Tamron 14-150mm F/3.5-5.8 Di III VC super zoom lens announced

Tamron has announced the first Micro Four Thirds super zoom lens in the company’s history and only the third high-power zoom lens for mirrorless cameras. The Tamron 14-150mm F/3.5-5.8 Di III VC lens is aimed only at mirrorless cameras, offering an equivalent of 28-300mm for the 35mm full-frame format.

An inside source has confirmed that Nikon will announce a new full frame lens at the upcoming CP+ Camera & Photo Imaging Show 2013, an event that will open its doors for visitors at the Pacifico Yokohama center, in Japan. The new Nikkor lens is expected to replace the older 18–35mm f/3.5–4.5G ED FX lens.

China was witness to a new Kodak-branded camera which was shown off at a press conference in Peking. The new Micro Four Thirds camera is planned for release in late Q3 of 2013. Made by JK Imaging, the new Micro Four Thirds camera is going to have a built in WiFi transmission function.

Pentax announces Efina and K-5 II / K-5 IIs firmware update 1.01

Pentax launched a new digital compact camera for entry-level users called Efina, a shooter which will have serious competition as Sony, Olympus, Samsung, and Panasonic unveiled their line of point-and-shooters at CES 2013. The digital imaging company also announced the availability of firmware update 1.01 for its DSLR cameras, the K-II and K-IIs.

Canon remains top Japanese company in US patent rankings

One thing that shows the dedication for research and innovation is the amount of patents filed by a company. Canon remained the top Japanese patent filer in the United States for the eighth consecutive year. The company filed for 3,174 patents in the US, outpacing its Japan-based competitors, such as Sony.

Canon introduced a new camcorder to replace the older HF G10 in the high-end camcorder segment. It is called Legria HF G25 and it is packing some serious hardware, so it should serve as an alarm signal to Canon’s competitors in the camcorder department, like Sony, Panasonic, Samsung, and Toshiba.
