I would love a new site! I am currently working on a new logo and branding with the hopes to go full time soon. I love the blog aspect of my site, but I am missing out on a few things that could really help. Like customized galleries, client ordering and a header that needs some work. I love the colors, but the background is goofy right now. Help a girl out!

  2. Sarah Wise on November 11, 2009 at 9:36 am

I would LOVE this opportunity! I’m just getting started and feel I don’t have the money to invest in a logo, website, etc. I think in this day and age, a good website is just as important (if not more!) than print marketing (i.e. business cards). Even if someone gets your web address from a business card, that’s the first thing they do is check out your website! So, I need mine to be great 🙂

  3. Jen on November 11, 2009 at 9:41 am

I tried to set up my own site by using a blogspot. Unfortunately the result is just not what I had envisioned. I have set up several different blogs with galleries and linked them together, but in order to update these links and galleries I have to completely redesign everything. I also love to scrapbook and design papers for backrounds etc and would love a website that portrays my creativity. Please, please, please pick me!!!

  4. Shutter Girl on November 11, 2009 at 9:50 am

I am totally in need of a site design! I have been DIY’ing it since I began and have never been happy with the layout, user-friendliness, and lack of branding that is going on there. I would also like to link my blog and website and be able to sell through my website. This would be a great boost to my fledgling business!

  5. Kim Clark on November 11, 2009 at 9:54 am

A few weeks ago I was in Russia teaching an impromtu photo class to university students. I was there to help our film guy gather stories from the field. We work for an organization called OneHope which reaches out to children worldwide. One of the students asked for my site and all I could do is direct them to Flickr. I have quite a collection of photos over the past few years but have not been able to use them to the advantage of my needs and the children I work with.I travel a lot taking photos of kids on assignment for OneHope. This past year I worked in South Africa, Honduras, Haiti and Russia. I am self-funded and considered a missionary. I need a website to display my photos and to fund my equipment needs which my budget does not cover. I also want to raise money to fund photo projects for children.Thank you for consideration,~Kim ClarkKimArt4children

  6. Vanessa on November 11, 2009 at 9:57 am

I am in serious need of a website! I’ve tried setting my own up at sodarnhappyphotography.com for a good week now. I’ve bashed my head against various hard surfaces because I’m totally clueless. I’m trying to build my business so I can quit my part time job & be at home more with my babies. Thank you for the opportunity! What a wonderful giveaway. 🙂

  7. Megan on November 11, 2009 at 10:00 am

After a self-imposed maternity leave, ending January 1st, I will be ready to hit the ground running. With 4 kids – that leaves little time to bring a fresh look to my site. I’d like to abandon the separate website/blog and merge into a “blogsite”. This would be the perfect boost to get me going!

  8. bdaiss on November 11, 2009 at 10:15 am

To be honest – I don’t. I’m not a pro. BUT, I have a great and darling friend who is more than deserving of having a fabulous website for his up-and-coming biz. I’d love to “gift” him this opportunity. Because he’s a photographer, and should be focusing on that rather than beating his head against the wall trying to design a website for his work.

  9. Hope Hanson-Baker on November 11, 2009 at 10:28 am

I am trying to “ramp up” my photography business and have been using iweb to create my website. But I am not a webdesigner and with a 3 month old baby at home, I am spending too much time on my website and not enough time on photography. Please help.

  10. Mindy Mooney on November 11, 2009 at 10:28 am

This is the next step in my journey to being the photgrapher I want to be…but my husband has been out of work for over 5 months and a website has to be pushed WAY down the list. I do know the importance of a quality website though and completely udnerstand how awesome this contest is…the time and talent….those great sites shown above..def. something I am “Wishing” for.

  11. Vivien Van Leeuwen on November 11, 2009 at 10:28 am

I would LOVE a custom smugmug site. I’m still getting started & have been using a blog to show my work but feel like I’m in need of something more. I know if I win this giveaway that having my own custom smugmug site would be the next step for me & my business. Just thinking about it makes me excited. Please pick me!!

  12. Laura Hartman on November 11, 2009 at 10:30 am

This opportunity would be like a dream come true for me. I already have a smugmug website but to say I need a makeover on it is an understatement! I’ve been in business for 5yrs and I feel like I’ve just been treading water. I don’t have the capital to invest that I would like to, so I get by with what I have. I know that redoing my website could be the boost I’ve been waiting for to take me to the next level. I just need a little help so I can start swimming instead of simply “not drowning”.

  13. Jill Rains on November 11, 2009 at 10:33 am

I need a new website because…well…mine currently sucks! Seriously! It needs some serious help, not to mention, a gallery option, and a more professional look! My current website doesn’t match what I really want to convey to my customers…a photography professional with class, style, individuality, and a rockin’ website! Thanks, Jodi, for offering another great contest. 🙂 Did I mention my current website sucks? 😉

  14. rachael on November 11, 2009 at 10:35 am

i need a new website because…well, because i don’t have one yet. i am currently working to build my portfolio in preparation to launch my business after the first of the year, but i keep hitting financial roadblocks (job loss, unexpected major expenses, equipment breaking) that push that dream farther + farther away. when i launch my website for my business, i want to do it well, but right now the only option available to me would be a free blog. which obviously places a limit on the possibilities of what i can do. the most common questions that i get + that people referring me get is…do you/does she have a website? i think that a website would really help me to spread the word + to attract new clients + it would also give people somewhere to go to validate my work rather than my personal website. thank you for such an incredible opportunity!

  15. Katie Neal Photo on November 11, 2009 at 10:36 am

OMG!!! That would be ridiculous to win. 🙂 Here’s my deal…I have a blog but not a website. I knew I needed to get SOMETHING on the internet to show my work, and I’m pretty darn proud of my blog. But, in order to grow my business off the ground floor I know I need a website. I think people when looking to book you, want to see a classy, professional website that reflects your branding. I believe I have a GREAT grasp of my branding and how I want my site to look, but need to see that come to life on a website. Plus, my husband got laid off from his job. So, besides not being able to invest in a website…I’m working two jobs to fill in the loss of income. Just another reason to grow my photography business HUGE so that we don’t have to worry about layoffs from The Man. 🙂 My blog is at http://www.katienealphoto.com/blog.

  16. Tonni on November 11, 2009 at 10:38 am

All I have is a blogspot, and I am pinching pennies to get a website up and running. This would be so perfect! I have my brand all planned in my head, but I’m at a loss as to where to start turning it into a real website…

  17. Lee-Ann on November 11, 2009 at 10:38 am

HI!! Wow what a great contest idea! I would love a photoweb page – in fact I desperately need one! I think that in today’s market, one needs to be accesible at all times of day or night, and what better way than through the www? I am beginning my business and would love the aid of building a web page. If you click over to my site, you’ll see that I am telling the truth. I love the look of the sites that you have already designed – I really want to build this dream of mine into a reality and I believe that with the help of a proffesional web page, my dream could be a reality for me! I have put off persuing my career while raising my 4 kids and they are almost all in school, so the timing is sooo right! I sure hope I am the lucky one!! http://www.gingersnapsyou.blogspot.com Thanks for the opportunity!!

  18. Heidi on November 11, 2009 at 10:40 am

It sounds like my response is similar to that of many others . . . that I realize in order to really get going in this business, I need to get going with something that actually showcases what I’m trying to market. And obviously a professionally-designed website is key! While I really love my little blog, I know it won’t be able to help me take my “wished for” business to the next level. There’s a reason my photography is called “wishful thinking photography” . . .

  19. gail on November 11, 2009 at 10:47 am

Why do I want this? I just want something that is refreshing and me. I’ve tried everything and just can’t find that next level that I really think this website would bring my business. I’m not new to this by any means but I have never had a wonderful website that I know Smugmug provides it’s clients. I would love love to win this and really get to show off myself, my business and Smugmug!

  20. Jenifer Towner on November 11, 2009 at 10:49 am

I have been taking photos for people for about six years. This year, I am finally getting paid for my work. I am so excited for the possibilities of growth in the future. I am a stay-at-home mom of three young children on a very limited income. I have been wanting to have a professional website but just can’t afford to pay someone at this time. I often have people asking me for my website address. I am hesitant to send them what I have because it isn’t as professional as I would like it to be. I have a basic portfolio but would love to knock their socks off with a great site! This would be such a blessing for me. I am certain it would improve my business. I know it would help me be more aggressive with marketing my business! What a great opportunity!

  21. Meghan on November 11, 2009 at 11:01 am

Why do you feel you need a new web site for your photography business ?I feel like I need a new web site look for my business because the one that I have currently is just too plain and simple. I want something that makes my pictures stand out as well as showing who I am as a person. I love smug mug and I actually already have a pro account (expires in January!) and I would LOVE to have him customize my site for me. I always have such difficulties customizing my site and that is part of the reason why it is so plain and simple.

  22. Nat on November 11, 2009 at 11:07 am

wow !!! what a cool prize i am just starting out and since i don’t really have cash flow right now i made my website out of blogger. i have had a blog for a long time a knew how to customise it so i use that for my base for the website, it looks OK and it pretty easy to customise but ….i feel i need a real one.

  23. Sue on November 11, 2009 at 11:12 am

I’m tired of taking FREE photos! I must get myself going. This would really help!

  24. Cindi on November 11, 2009 at 11:19 am

I am a photographer, not a graphic/web designer and this would help tremendously! I recently worked with a graphic designer friend for a new logo and bought a domain – but am stuck and need help displaying my work online and getting my business up and running. jR Customization websites are so beautiful and I would love this opportunitiy. Thanks for this great contest MCP!!!

  25. Amanda J on November 11, 2009 at 11:21 am

I have a website, but there’s nothing on it! I can’t afford to do it right at this point in time, so it’s not done. It’s really hard to showcase my work without a good website. I can only show people prints and that’s been limiting my business potential.

  26. Pam on November 11, 2009 at 11:23 am

I currently use smugmug and love it…however I do not have the pro account nor the style that I need to lift me to the next level. I do have a blog but would really like a site that will promote my photography business. Time to get down to business!

  27. Mina Habibi on November 11, 2009 at 11:33 am

OMG … do I ever need this. As a photographer AND graphic/web designer, I constantly have this nagging that I can do it all, myself. Sure, I have the skills, but I just don’t have the time. Some day, I have to relinquish control, and realize that I can’t do it all and the more I let go of the more that will come back to me, in ways I never imagined. Maybe this can be the first step!

  28. Jen Jacobs on November 11, 2009 at 11:34 am

I really need to start branding my work this year, I want something original, something different than everyone else, something ME! Just as my business was getting going I got pregnant which put a hold on my photography business and now it seem like I am starting over just to get my name out there again. A new website would be 1 stepto getting that branding going!!

  29. Christine on November 11, 2009 at 11:42 am

Not only is this a great opportunity but this is a WONDERFUL gift that someone could give someone. I appreciate the opportunity to write a comment in this section of your blog. I just got started in this photography field a little over a year ago to help the family out. As a stay-at-home mother of 3 girls and a wonderful hubby who has to provide for alot of things, I believe that God blessed me with a talent that could be used to “help out”. I do not have a professional website, and have been looking to do one for my clients, for future marketing, and also just to showcase my work. I want a “WOW” factor when people open my website and see the photos. However, with “helping out” it is impossible to be able to afford a great looking and professional site. There are many photographers out there, and they all deserve a chance at this wonderful opportunity as well, and would be just as excited for them if they won this opportunity as well, but I would be absolutly FLABERGASTED if I was given this unique and wonderful gift.

  30. Adrianne on November 11, 2009 at 11:42 am

“Why do you feel you need a new web site for your photography business?” I’m in school, learning my craft now and feel like I’m ready for a more professional look. I plan to rebrand and get a new logo so I need a website to reflect the new direction in my career. Thank you, Jodi and SM for offering this contest.

  31. Shannon Rice on November 11, 2009 at 11:45 am

I need a new website because my current website does not represent the quality of my photography or my business. I have a new logo designed already. I have started to design a new website around it but just don’t have the skills to make it what I want. I’m just starting my business so I still work another job. I want to concentrate on honing my photography not learning web design. I believe outsourcing is important but don’t have the capital to do so with my website now. SmugMug rocks! I need to renew my pro account next month so winning this would be awesome.

  32. Julia on November 11, 2009 at 11:46 am

I’m a college student (junior year) and while my ultimate dream would to be a photojournalist, I’m trying to start up my own business first, so I can hopefully make some extra money on that side. I would love to have a website upgrade, but with being in college in full time (and saving for all these loans!), I just don’t have the money saved up for all those upgrades at the moment.

  33. Luci Foster Thornton on November 11, 2009 at 11:53 am

I have recently started a new, but blossoming, photography business. While searching for ways to release all of this pinned up creative energy; photography has become a much needed creative outlet for me. I feel alive, natural, comfortable with a camera in my hands. All of the static swimming around in my head disappears. I am still in shock … Read Morethat I can get paid doing something that I love and enjoy so very much. A new website would only help my business to grow and improve. For that I would be ever grateful!

  34. LaRell Steele on November 11, 2009 at 12:00 pm

Hi, I already use smugmug but my website lacks the professional look that jR Customization offers. Please pick me! I need a website makeover!

  35. Nichole Crowley on November 11, 2009 at 12:04 pm

Oh I would love to win this. I already have a smugmug account which is going to expire soon and even though I’ve tried so hard to make it look decent I am very incompetent when it comes to smugmug designing. I have been doing rodeo photography for the past 2 years and this year I decided to expand my services to portraits. I don’t charge alot for my sessions because it makes me feel great to know that I can help someone get decent pictures without spending a fortune, all my extra money is spent to get better equipment (and MCP actions LOL) so that I can improve my work therefore I cannot afford to have someone design a website for me. I believe that how you present your work is important and is a small factor in someones decision whether or not they will want to hire you and that is why I would like a new website!!!!!!

  36. Kristina on November 11, 2009 at 12:06 pm

I would love to earn this. I have been working on my marketing and branding. I know nothing about html or css. My site could use a lot of help. There are many photogs in my area. I need to stand out a bit more than the rest. Thanks in advance if you choose me.

  37. Robert Mance on November 11, 2009 at 12:07 pm

After several years I can honestly say my photography has reached a level I can be proud of. I was really excited about sharing my images with everyone! To do that I knew I needed a website. I did some research and made a choice. Unfortunately I made the wrong choice! Sure, it worked out fine when I just had images to show, but recently I have taken my business to a whole new direction and now I’m finding I don’t have the flexibility in my current website to show and talk about this exciting part of my business. In addition to my images as standard prints, mostly landscape and nature, I can now put my images on ceramic and glass tiles, plus I do custom framing work. I invested a substantial amount of money getting the tools and equipment, but now I’m missing the most important tool of all … a website that can show and tell everyone. It’s very frustrating! They say … If you want to be successful, surround yourself with successful people. That’s why I need Smugmug!

  38. Shannon Heimsoth on November 11, 2009 at 12:07 pm

My goal for 2010 is to launch my website! I currently use SmugMug and LOOOVVEE it but am VERY overwhelmed when it comes to customizing it! This would be an amazing opportunity!! Thank you soooo much!!

  39. Laurie Y on November 11, 2009 at 12:08 pm

I hate smugmug and love it, but my website is due for a major overhaul!! It would be great to just customize smugmug to my style… right now my smugmug part looks too amiture-ish.

  40. Khaled Mosli on November 11, 2009 at 12:15 pm

I am actually in the process of building our photography portfolio! and I feel that I am getting all I need from the current provider, but I am it’s a matter of time to get used to the website and get to know more about it!I felt that I need a new web site since Galleries were not working the same way I was looking for them to work! Also, I faced some limitations with the background and textures I have to use with the website. The provider I used before did not have the new social media tools and strategies! such share links and updates!I have been looking around and did not find that much much features! and I am still looking around!Regards…

  41. Robyn O'Neill on November 11, 2009 at 12:17 pm

My current site is actually just a blog with a few pages of information thrown in. It’s also sharing space with my acting career, which, while convenient for me, is not terribly professional. I’ve also had requests for online sales of some of the more fine art pieces that I’ve done and I’m just not sure how to do that with what I’m currently using. I would LOVE some professional help! Thanks for considering me.

  42. Rachel on November 11, 2009 at 12:21 pm

I have been 100% DIY on the website side. I have read all about SM 😀 and the glorious possibilities but it wasn’t until I saw some of the sample solutions JR did in a recent preview that I thought I might be interested in giving it a shot. I have a fuddled mess of client stuff going on right now and I’d really like to streamline.I have dappled in PHP gallery scripts and done creating my own thumbnails and all sorts of methods (WP slideshows, manual order forms, you name it, I’ve tried it). I need a once-and-for-all solution. I need to be able to host my client pics and let my family order kiddo pics with as little intervention from me as possible! Is SM the right choice? Let me find out!

  43. Carin on November 11, 2009 at 12:25 pm

I am a stay at home mom to three boys and we recently moved to a VERY small town. I am having a hard time breaking into this small town environment where “everyone knows everyone” except me. To have a website that is professional looking, that offers right click protect, proofing galleries and more would be just the boost I need to get into this market! jR’s work looks absolutely amazing and combined with SmugMug will help me have that professional site and look I have been desiring for so long! Then it will be “everyone knows everyone… and ME”!

  44. Melinda Tuttle on November 11, 2009 at 12:43 pm

First of all this contest could not have come at a better time. I am a photographer fairly new to the portrait business. Currently I do in-home proofing and ordering of prints on my own. I have been so busy recently that I do not think I have the time to do in person ordering with everyone before Christmas. I have been searching for the perfect gallery option and SmugMug definitely was top on the list. Honestly I have not taken the plunge because I have been so swamped with editing, and taking care of my son while my husband is out of town for work. I really hope I win, I could really use this. I am sure my clients would be very excited as well. Currently I use a blogsite. I do not even have a website. This would really help me look more professional and allow me time to spend with my family during the holidays instead of proofing and ordering. Thanks for such a great opportunity SmugMug!

  45. Camilla Binks on November 11, 2009 at 1:05 pm

This would be awesome! Although I really like the look of my site the way that it is I feel that I need to do something to make it more unique. I am currently using the same template as hundreds of other photographers out there. I would like something that is personal to me. I have been in the business a few years and it’s really starting to take off and kick butt right now. I feel like if I am going to make any big changes it would need to be NOW. In a few months it may be too late.

  46. corrie on November 11, 2009 at 1:06 pm

photography has always been a dream of mine and it has come to reality and is snowballing quickly. i am currently showcasing my work on my family’s personal blog. which, looks really unprofessional but i have no idea where to even start with the website thing…i need major HELP getting started with this next step so that my business will look and be more professional and official! what an awesome opportunity this would be to win!

  47. Lori Mercer on November 11, 2009 at 1:09 pm

Oh, my web presence is so lacking! Right now my main website is taylored to only one type of photography that I do and I tend to send everyone to my blog (www.lorimercerphotography.blogspot.com) instead since it is updated more often. Even my blog is blah! I would love to combine them both so that there is fresh content often and all the other contact information is there also. I really need your help!! I have a smugmug website, going on my second year. But I have never been able to get it just right. I’ve tried many things, and the css/html is beyond my understanding lol . So I need this!! I like the simple look, easy is better. One click and clients see the image, I’d like to be able to password protect a Proof gallery, and not have to do it gallery by gallery. In the end, I need some serious help with my site.. So thanks for a chance like this.Tonya

Wow! My business partner and I are just about to start fresh. After one year in the business, having started out with a free blog and logos I created myself, we are feeling the need to look more professional as we are getting busier and busier! We are two mothers who are in love with our work, but we hardly make enough right now to cover all our costs with new equipment needed, etc. We don’t want to go in over our head with costs so we were going to wait to get a website! But….(fingers crossed) maybe we will win this fabulous contest! Our business could really use some professional help in order to help us get “out there” and reach more clients who want us to work for them! Please, please pick us! I have heard nothing but good about SmugMug!Tamsen DonkerCreative Clicks Photography

I would just LOVE to win! I’ve just been using a blogger blog and would be thrilled to have a SmugMug website. This month is the official start of my business (I’m finally charging people…) and a real live website would make it so much more professional! Thanks for doing this!

This would be so great. I would really appreciate the customization and getting some help in setting up a stellar website! I’m afraid to change things on my current blog and don’t know how to do much besides a simple post. My photo hosting site leaves A LOT to be desired. I’m watching every penny since our income is based on automotive in MI (nuff said) so I need all the help I can get. It’s hard to move forward without funding for essentials like a great website. Thanks for another great opportunity mcp and jR Customization.

I would love to have a custom designed website! I had no idea you could customize Smugmug sites to look so pretty! Right now I just have a blog and just starting my side photography business, and I have been wanting a website for a while, but the price has been cost prohibitive since I’m unemployed right now.

  55. Danielle on November 11, 2009 at 1:39 pm

I would love this opportunity to have a new website to showcase my work. I just moved to Seattle and have been wanting to get a more profession look for the area I live. I spent the summer redesigning a blogger blog to make it have a more professional feel but just don’t think it’s cutting it. My husband is a grad student here and we are on a grad student income living in an expensive city so my options are limited for atleast the next 2 years. I love photography and it’s a great outlet for me and I love being able to share my talent with others. I have been struggling getting myself out there in this new city and I know having this opportunity would be a huge help in jump starting my business. And even if I am not choosen I want to say thank you for providing this opportunity for someone who is in need. You are an inspiration and I hope one day to be able to give back in a similar manner.

I’m so busy taking and editing pictures that I haven’t even had time to think about a website. It’s rough getting started.

  57. Marci on November 11, 2009 at 1:46 pm

I started my photography business for kids and families about a year ago and overall things have really kicked into gear the past few months. In January I will have a new logo/look and would LOVE an amazing custom site that incorporates all the colors/elements and truly reflects what my photography is about. I currently use a basic web design but just don’t have extra time or $$$ at the moment for creating something more unique and memorable. Thanks for blessing others with your gifts!!

I absolutely LOVE my SmugMug pro account…but (and it’s a big but) it is definitely missing some punch. While I try to customize it as much as possible with what is available, it would be so nice to add a little pizazz to set it apart from the next site. I would like my clients to come to my site and be immersed in their gallery, while not realizing they are in a SmugMug account. The new customization feature is AWESOME, and I’ve been saving my pennies for it, but with a daughter in college, literally every bit of spare change gets headed her way. With working a full-time job in addition to my photography business (which is steadily becoming busier and busier), I am looking for anything possible in order to promote my business but also cannot be too terribly time-consuming–time is definitely at a premium as I become busier. Hopefully, I will soon be able to quit my full-time job (or at least cut back to part-time) so I can pursue this passion of mine, and I believe SmugMug will help me as I work to achieve this goal. As always, I will continue to be SmugMug’s #1 fan and really can’t say enough about it. Thanks for this awesome opportunity!

I am just now starting a business and only have a family blog so far. I was just looking at smugmug last night as I will be doing family pictures and christmas cards for several families in the next few weeks. I’ve been working on designing all of my marketing material so I’ve just started gathering info on websites. I’m a SAHM to two girls, 3 months and 20 months, so I don’t have time to build an entire website from scratch but would love to have the extra money to do fun things for our family.

  60. Amy on November 11, 2009 at 2:16 pm

I’m still in the beginning stages of my business, although I have had my website for just over a year. Whilst I do have a website it just seems ho-hum. I’m currently building a studio in my home which should be complete after christmas and a new ~gorgeous~ website would certainly help kickstart my studio!

I need a new website because…I stink at building a website! I built a free one on Wix because I was overwhelmed with all the requests I was getting for photo sessions and I needed something other than facebook albums to show interested people. I like the overall theme I’ve created but my navigation bar, galleries and upload time really have a lot to be desired. I’m working diligently to build upon the momentum that’s happened rather quickly around my photography but can’t portray the professional, distinct image I’m desiring thru my current site. Plus some people have commented that my wording gets “squished” together on their screens. HELP!www.inspiredbychristy.com

What a great giveaway! I am just starting out and need to get a website set up. I am the only photographer for a local non-profit and make zero money on those images since I put them on Shutterfly 🙁 I would like to be able to offer them to everyone in a central location that is not downloadable and recoup some cost for my time. 64. sonja on November 11, 2009 at 2:26 pm

A new website would be fantastic–my journey into photography over the past four years has brought me to this point. I’ve tried using a blog format and don’t really like it–it doesn’t look professional enough. The past few weeks I have been researching more formatting–how to make drop down menus, rotating headers, splash pages…and it is just overwhelming! Managing our four kids and a police officer husband’s shift working schedule, plus having quite a few shoots (and the subsequent editing), leave me little time left to research and learn these things I wanted to do myself. I have to admit defeat. As sad as it makes me, I need to swallow my pride and forget doing a website on my own. I have over 100 wonderful photos I have been saving for my website–so I am ready to take the step and have someone help me. And I would be honoured to be chosen to have jR Customization help me–they are exactly what my business needs to make things easier and WAY more appealing to customers.

Although my website is only 9 months old, its a template that although it does its job of showing nice big photos doesn’t really showcase my style, my personality, my vision. I have been thinking of ways to customize a site for the last few months and this would be an awesome opportunity. I have some multimedia ideas that wold make a great website that would really allow me to better connect to my clients!Mark StagiStagi Imagery http://www.wedclix.com

I only have a photography blog for my business right now and really want/need a professional looking website in addition to the blog. I see a big difference between a blog and a website and know I need to invest in the more professional “store front” of a website. The blog is a great place for me to share current photos and talk about what’s going on but I also want a place to display my portfolio, my rates, and a place to host my online viewing gallery for clients.

  67. Elizabeth W. on November 11, 2009 at 2:48 pm

Wow! This is such a great great opportunity! I am currently stuck in a dead end studio job, that I am desperately trying to get out of. Its not the kind of photography I enjoy, portraits yes, studio no. I like natural light. My site is severely lacking though, using blogger, and it’s just not what I need. I feel like with a real site, I could better serve the few clients I do have, and hopefully draw in some more!! Currently I do have a basic Smugmug account, but since it is basic, it doesn’t really work how I need it to. Have thought about upgrading it several times, but the funds are just not there. So winning one, would be amazing and jR customization, just wow!

  68. Courtney on November 11, 2009 at 2:53 pm

I’m in the beginning stages of turning my hobby/passion into a business. Beginning being I’m taking pictures for friends to get the experience and practice without charging. Currently I have an “over the counter” website/blog for my photography. Honestly, I’m not thrilled or excited about my site. But it works and it’s inexpensive (aka free!). For photo viewing I’ve invested a whole whopping $25 in an annual flickr account; which works, but it’s not the best avenue for picture dispursement to my “clients”. I like it for being able to use the pictures I upload to post in blogs though. I was actually looking at smugmug the other day and started pondering starting an account and testing it at the basic level for a year. My goal is to not be a photography that takes great pictures but doesn’t show them off in the right way, in a cheesy, unprofessional way. I’m looking forward to growing, and better branding myself, and providing the services that clients want and need, as well as being up to date with the available technology (especially if it’s user friendly!).Thanks for this great give away and the opportunity to reflect (quickly) the direction I want/need to be moving in.

  70. Amy McMaster on November 11, 2009 at 3:01 pm

I need a new website for my business because my current site does not reflect who I am or what I want. And frankly, I don’t even know where to begin with all that. I have a smugmug, but stopped using it because I couldn’t make it something amazing (I don’t know code or other fancy stuff) or something that even reflected me. I am currently using Portfoliositez. It’s alright, but it’s not me either. I don’t spend much time on it because…well…it’s not really mine? I am a sahm to four young kids and have been working hard during the day with my kids and at night until the wee hours of the morning- lovingly working on my…craft. :o) I am spending my fall and winter going through the portfolio I have been building up these past 6 months (and a few more portfolio sessions here and there) and a new site with my new images would be just….amazing. What a huge gift! Thank you for your consideration.

  71. Olivia on November 11, 2009 at 3:10 pm

I just bought my domain name yesterday! I’m also getting a real graphic designer to create a new logo for me (your post yesterday made the decision for me…one that I’ve been struggling with for awhile). So before I really take off with everything having a complete and professional looking site would just make everything perfect!

  72. Marta on November 11, 2009 at 3:31 pm

I don’t need a new website, I need my first one. I have loved photography for years and dreamed of my own business but just this year have been taking it serious and lining up all the things I need. I am just finishing up a couple more projects for PBing and am ready to start working on a website. I thought about just doing a blogspot or something to get started but I heard about SmugMug and had been kicking that around instead. This would be such a great opportunity to get myself all official and give people a place to go when they hear of me(so far I have just been word of mouth thru friends and workmates). I am so excited and grateful that you are doing this for someone.

  73. Kyleen Bentley on November 11, 2009 at 3:53 pm

This would be an answer to prayer. I have always just been a hobby shooter, but do to some economic changes in my career – I have been contiplating taking a serious move towards photography. I have always given my photos away for free, but would like to start making some money doing what I love. It is extremely obvious that a professional website design makes a definate impression on attracting customers – winning this would be absolutely incredible.Since I’ve always given my photos away, I currently use a free website with very limited storage space. Each time I want to post some new photos – I have to dump my older ones.

Seriously, its about time I had a drool-worthy website! I’ve been working as a photographer for the past two years and things have really taken off but unfortunately my current online presence has not. I’d love a beautiful website with a design that speaks about who I am as a photographer and showcases all the work I have done so far.Like most photographers, I don’t do alot of ironing and housework. Instead I put alot of time and energy into keeping my online life updated, getting the best photos from recent session, writing interesting posts, changing colours and layouts on my blogspot, buts that about all I can control as I’m not website designer. I’m just about to shell out hundreds of hard-earned pounds for a website. Please make my dreams come true.

I have a SmugMug site already and LOVE it but cannot for the life of me get it to look professional. This is my first year as a Wedding Photographer and it is very important to look like I know what Im doing. lol. I would pay to have my site customized but just do not have the money for it. I would love to have a place were I can showcase my work and where my clients will feel comfortable. Thank you for having this contest!

I would so love (and need) and custom designed website 🙂 My blog is LACKING! I just use blogspot and have tried to customize it to no avail. My husband and I just got married this past May… bought a house this September… and the Holidays are coming up. So, add all that up and there is just no room for making my blog look like I want it to look. I am also in the middle of renaming my business and creating a new logo. I’m just going to use my actual name as my brand – Brittney Melton – but I’m doing both graphic design and photography now and I would love to start off totally fresh with a brand new blogsite with this new name. I just had my first 2 weddings this year as a photographer, which was very exciting. I have been wanting and needing to get this going for the past couple of years… it is TIME!little side note ***I absolutely love the “Moments Photography – http://www.louisianamoments.com” blogsite… gorgeous and oh so cute!***

Wow! What a great giveaway! I would love, love, love to win a new website! I’ve been looking into the Smugmug sites and I just don’t have the funds to do it right now. I’ve been wanting to go ahead and just purchase all the things I need to get a jump start. I’ve gotten plenty of encouragement from friends but just don’t have the cohonas!(Sp?) With a Smugmug website, I feel like I could really move forward and get things going!

I am currently a kindergarten teacher. I have two little boys (Jack is 2.5 years and Ryder is 3 months). I LOVE photography and have been trying to learn it for the last year. I am just now actually starting to understand it-LOL! I would love to start a website, but just can’t afford it right now. My husband had to cash out his Life Insurance this months so we could pay for daycare ($1600/month OUCH!) I have been praying for God to help me with this new business plan. I feel that a website would give me the opportunity to pursue my dream. If I win I might pee my pants—I’d be that excited!!!

“You never know when your luck may change…” someone told me just the other day. I wonder, after reading this post, if November 21st will be that day?! I don’t even know if I believe in luck — but maybe, maybe, someone will take a look at my website (which is a free blogspot account) and determine that ‘this girl is in need of a website makeover and we are about to change her definition of luck!’ I love photography — I love the opportunities that come from my work — but honestly, I would just love a bit of good luck! I have a motto that I go by : “PRESENTATION IS EVERYTHING”. I currently have a Blogspot blog through Blogger which I have tried to customize to try not to make it look so “blogspot” like, but with no success. I did it all on my own – my logo, my colors choices (blah), and the whole layout. I want my website to PRESENT as well as I feel like my photos do and that is where Smugmug and JR Customization can help. I don’t want to bore you because I’m sure there are many deserving photographers out there like myself – so here is my use of your “Öwww.get-to-the-point.com’ theory – please pick me Jerry!!! What an AWESOME giveaway!! I am a teacher currently teaching at a Catholic school. After teaching and doing things for little people all day (in addition to two of my own at home) I just don’t have time to do anything for “myself” at the end of the day, including developing a website. It has SO been a longtime dream of mine and while I’d love to draw in more clients with a website, it just doesn’t look like it’s in the cards for us right now.

My heart longs for creativity and learning and teaching. As I am nearing the end of my college career I want to find a way to merge my love for photography and the ingenuity that goes into it while serving others and helping. I want to make it so that a portion of my profits goes to charity. Each month I plan on highlighting a Non-Profit so I raise awareness. I feel that using my craft, which attracts attention, to show what is happening in our neighborhoods, our cities, and our world, could better those around me and myself.I would love the help of fusing this into a cohesive and thoughtful website that would make it much more appealing so I can reach more people. Thank you for doing this giveaway and good luck everyone!

Rightly so it would put a real “smug” on my “mug”. Starting my business this year has been a lifelong dream and I’ve put time, effort & money into getting it ready this far. I’ve long droooooooled over having a smugmug pro site as a way to showcase my galleries & for the ease & professionalism it offers with client proofing etc. Unfortunately there is not much to offer here in Australia and we are forced to look to the US for many resources. I’ve thought long and hard about purchasing an account with SmugMug but haven’t been able to convince my husband about the costs involved considering all the expenses we have had to fork out for in getting started. I understand & enforce the importance of branding, consistency & a great online presence.I look with melting puppy dog eyes when I hear the raves from Becker & Jasmine Star about SmugMug and anticipate the day I can proudly proclaim “I’m a SmugMug too!”

  89. Karen Bee on November 11, 2009 at 7:13 pm

In an effort to save money (since I was just starting out) my husband, bless his heart, created a website for me. It is s-l-o-w! It is a freeware site, and it is so complicated to upload photos to it that I need a day to figure it out. So for a year my site has only had a few photos of my family. All the photos are compartmentalized and the compartments are sparse, let me tell you! I’m embarrassed to pass out my business cards because my web address is printed on them and I don’t want anyone to look at my site! Nowadays, I have so many beautiful photos of other people’s babies, children, families from the past year that I would love to show on my website!! I would love all my photos to be displayed and to really shine so people can see the kind of photographer I really am. Hey, I don’t only take photos of my own family – I can beautifully photograph your family too!Thank you for the chance at a professional looking website!

  93. Denise Burridge on November 11, 2009 at 7:48 pm

Hello Jodi and Jerry,Thank you both for such a wonderful opportunity. I am new to photography. This has been an exciting and frustrating road. Exciting because I’m getting to make my dream come true. I’m grabbing the bull by the horns and holding on for dear life. It hasn’t been easy. Frustrating because I have an artistic eye but technology wise I’m as dumb as a box of rocks. I haven’t let that get me down it frustrates me and at times I can use a few choice words at my computer but I’m still moving forward. That brings me to you. I would love for my website to create credibility with the customer and create a sense of professionalism and thru professionalism trust. Some customers don’t have the chance to meet you first so there first impression of who you are as a photographer is your website. I want to make the best first impression. Having the website customized will be a huge step towards branding myself and this too will help to partner with companies that offer a product or service that compliments my photography. The gift from Jerry and you will have a domino affect to making the business a wonderful success. Thank you for this opportunity. Take care~ Denise, Photographic Artist for Rising Sun Memories

Oh my gosh!! This is perfect. I’ve actually just recently started looking at SmugMug and cannot figure out how to use it!I’ve had to learn everything the hard way in building my photography business. Everything I have purchased has been with cash, no business loans. I’m finally to the point that people know who I am and book me because of the brand that I’ve created. After deciding to re-do my site, I pulled my site off the web intending to immediately fix it and re-do it. It currently has a front page that says “Page Under Construction”.I looked through some options and now have been so wrapped up with life that I haven’t had time to put a new site up, hence no website activity bringing in customers. If it wasn’t for Facebook and Twitter, my business would be dead without a website. I need a new website because mine is hardly existent! I’m getting good traffic via twitter but nothing to show forth. MCP…. pimp my website!!

  96. Kathy on November 11, 2009 at 8:25 pm

I have the middle-tier SmugMug acct, but a custom site thru them would be great! The reason I need a new site is that I shoot horse shows and my current flash site is not very easy for competitors to view their photos and I would like to better organize the photos by show, date, class, and rider. I am currently shopping for a new site that will do this better so this is great timing!! And with my current flash site, I’m not allowed enough galleries to keep the whole year’s show photos active & live at the same time.

  97. Wendy Lloyd on November 11, 2009 at 8:31 pm

Because I don’t have one. My blog looks terrible. I have 6 children and a full time job so life is busy enough. Plus I would love to be a full time photographer and get away from my desk job. This would give me a place to showcase my work.

  98. Lindsay Fisher on November 11, 2009 at 8:32 pm

I can’t even put into words how much having a new website would mean to me. I started my photography business while on maternity leave over a year ago and it’s just taken off! I’m finding it really hard to find a balance with being back at work full time (teaching grades 7&8), being the Mom that my lil’ ones need, and trying to put in the time to keep my photography business growing. My business is something that I am very proud of and it means so much to me. My goal is to do it on a more full time basis someday. I love teaching, but taking photographs give me that “creative rush”, any photographer knows what I’m talking about. I love being able to give people pictures that capture a moment and make life pause for even a second! I know that a great website is crucial, for me it’s just a matter of finding extra hours in the day to step it up a notch. So, having this opportunity to have a professional website would be the equivalent of winning the lottery for me. It could just possibly change my life!

Why do I need a new website for my photography?I would fall into the category of not even having a website, so my very best reason would be that a website for my business is not even in existence. Now, I do have a blog – a blogger blog. Ugh! I’ve spent many hours learning about html code in order to create a blog that I am only slightly satisified with. Currently, I am looking for a place to host my photos so clients can order online. I think Smugmug and I would be a perfect match! Thanks for the opportunity!

the main reason i need a new website is because the one i have now hasn’t been updated since i started it 2 years ago. terrible i know, but my blog has served as my main website displaying current work and i never have enough hours in the day to really customize what i want my website to be.. im frustrated by the limitations and annoyed its not personalized since i know tons of other photographers have the same site with different info. i keep holding off to decide which product and company im going to go with but i just cant decide without really exploring. smugmug has been at the top of my list since i began my search and now its just a matter of time before i actually do it — to have a customized website and the opportunity to have it start as what i want would be amazing. Because I want my website to be very much ME and not just another photographers website displaying images- customizing it is a necessity. Here we go smugmug.. let’s rock this site! 🙂 Thanks Jodi!!

You guys are totally amazing offering up this opportunity to someone. What a fantastic value! With so many expenses to doing business the best way a break is always appreciated. Do I ever need a new site! My husband has been laboring to try and learn flash & great web design to no avail. Right now we have a freebie template he has been unsuccessful in getting to work properly. The galleries do not show correctly and definitely do not give the impression of our business that is needed. We are also waiting for our new logo to be done so this would be the perfect time to launch a new site along with it… I also want to be able to add online proofing, a shopping cart and a seamless transition to the photo blog at some point.

  102. Laura on November 11, 2009 at 9:21 pm

I have been working on making my website for 2 years now. I never seem to get to it! I am always editing photos and I never seem to have the time! I do have a pro smugmug account. I list client galleries for 3 weeks … but it’s all mixed in with family & friend galleries. I need to separate the two and get serious. I have invested so much in lenses, computers, software, actions … the list is endless. This would be what I need to make it a real business! Thanks Jodi!! Your last post about branding really hit home … I have a homemade logo as well. You are motivating me to get moving!

  103. Sarah on November 11, 2009 at 9:28 pm

I NEED a new website because the only one I have is from blogger and I think it takes the POP away from my pictures. I think it will be better for me to market myself as a photographer with a more professional website!

  104. Laynie Harris on November 11, 2009 at 9:30 pm

I currently do NOT have one and that’s why I need a *NEW* one! A fellow photographer and I did research on all the photo websites and smugmug was our top choice! I’m locked into another site for another year and don’t want to put out the extra money yet. If I win, this would be GREAT! I’m a stay-at-home mom and have ambitions of making my love for photography to give our family additional income. Having a new website would definitely help me achieve this goal. THANK YOU FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY!

SMUG MUG–Where have you been all my life!!!!!!!!! I am in need of an extreme site makeover. HELP ME PLEASE!!!!! I am the busy mom of three little girls under the age of three (yes…all in diapers still *sigh*) Who knew that in the midst of the chaos, I would be launching a photography business! It all started with the standard blogger template to keep the family posted, than the photography bug bit hard. (Taking pictures of kids and newborns will do it to you) I changed my template to one styled after a more traditional photography blog and increased the size of my photographs. But that is where it’s ended-as far as a blog/website. I have loads of people who lurk my blog and am getting calls and referrals, but don’t know how to get that WOW factor. I would LOVE YOU TO GIVE ME THE WOWOWOWOWOWOWOW factor!!!

  106. Laynie Harris on November 11, 2009 at 9:40 pm

I currently do NOT have one and that’s why I need a *NEW* one! I have only a site I use, http://www.laynieharris.wordpress.com. And I’m not officially a registered business – yet. I guess I’m working backwards. If/when business picks up and starts making money, then I’ll make it all official. Currently, I advertise myself as Laynie Harris Photography (Yes Jodi, I read your blog about investing in branding yourself, but I just don’t have that kind of money.)A fellow photographer and I did research on all the photo websites and smugmug was our top choice! I’m locked into another site for another year and don’t want to put out the extra money yet. If I win, this would be GREAT! I’m a stay-at-home mom and have ambitions of making my love for photography a way to give our family additional income. Having a new website would definitely help me achieve this goal. THANK YOU FOR THIS OPPORTUNITY!

Well, first off a new website, would be awesome to say the least. I am currently utilizing the wonderful world of Yahoo!, but I am ultimately frustrated with the lack of creativity it allows me. Am I web designer? Not by a long shot, but I have a vision and I want to be able to put it into action. However, being that I am just starting out I needed to get my info out there for the most cost effective way I could come up with and this is where we are…As with a lot of folks on here I think that our two biggest challenges is having the money to do it right the first time and confidence that we are good enough to make it worth it. I feel these go hand in hand, so thanks for offering this up! Of course, I hope to win, but if I don’t I know it’s going to another worthy partcipant to get that much closer to their own vision :).

  108. Taylor Bottoms on November 11, 2009 at 11:21 pm

Firstly, I do not necessarily “need” a new website for my photography business, but I really really want one. As a mother of two, soon to be three, I am short on the time needed to create and maintain a one of kind, inspirational and fun site. It has most definitely been a huge desire of mine since I began the journey to creating a photography business for myself, but the time or money has yet to be found. I have always been one who enjoys creativity, uniqueness, as well as perfection….with this being said, imagine the difficulty of trying to create the above mentioned paired with a hefty bout of indecisiveness =) Photography has been a lifelong passion that has just recently flourished into a potential career, my dream career. With the aid of a nifty new site to advertise my blossoming desire to be an amazing photographer, my dream could potentially come true! Displaying my passion to the rest of the world in a fun and stylish way would be the icing on the cake for an already magical time in my life!

  109. Noelle on November 11, 2009 at 11:37 pm

I have always wished I knew how to design my own website, since money isn’t in the bag for one. I feel when a photographer has their own website it seals them as an official photographer. I would love to say I had a website, and be proud of it! It is so important to veiwers also to see that you take yourself seriously! What a great opportunity! Thank you for the amazing giveaway!

  110. Jenn on November 11, 2009 at 11:45 pm

Wow! This is an incredible opportunity! I have been in business for almost a year and feel like most of my year has been spent more on trying to figure out website stuff and blog stuff than on photography :-0 I have settled on a “cookie cutter” blog and website simply because I was in over my head. I would love the chance to work with some experts would could create what I envision. Currently, I feel like I have a hodge podge of things. For my site, blog and order fulfillment to all be cohesive and tied together- Wow! Please, pick me :-)Signed,A Web Challenged Photographer

  111. Cyndi on November 11, 2009 at 11:46 pm

I would love a new website that was not cookie cutter and stood out more 🙂 This is a great opportunity for someone!

I am just about to move cross country in less than 2 weeks. I am in the process of branding and getting a new logo. I am taking advantage of the move to rebrand myself, restructure my business to include pricing, marketing techniques, and focus. My goal is to customize my new look and offerings to stand out from the crowd. I feel that my current site is just too similar to what everyone else is doing. It doesn’t define who I am and what I am about.

  113. karen gunton on November 12, 2009 at 1:23 am

what perfect timing. i am in the middle of rebranding and trying to find a way to build a new website and i am completely overwhelmed! when i started branching out my photography from ‘hobby’ to ‘business’ about 2 years ago i never knew if it would take off. so i just signed up for free web-hosting, not even getting the domain name that i wanted (so settling for .info which is a huge mistake!), and made my website myself using front page. it served it’s purpose at the time but is a very amature attempt and looks it (i didn’t even use a free template – i just tried to do it myself using my stellar microsoft office skills! ack!) now that i am really making a go of this business i absolutely have to have something professional – i don’t think i will be regarded as a professional when my image looks completely ‘home-made’. on top of that, i don’t even have front page anymore, so everytime i try to make a change to my website via the html on the server i make it look even worse. oh, i also have a quickie, freebie ‘blogspot’ blog site (which actually looks better than my website) so a new website that incorporated a professional blog would be such a bonus! http://www.zoomdesigns.info

  114. Sarah Blair on November 12, 2009 at 1:48 am

I need a new website because my picture load SO slowly AND I need something a little more professional

  115. Joe on November 12, 2009 at 9:13 am

I’ve been seriously pursuing photography for the past 2 years. With the birth of my son 6 months ago, I’ve been turning my attention to portraiture from landscape work, as I have a lot of family who wants nice pictures of our little guy. A strange thing happened along the way….I really enjoyed it. I’ve now expanded by taking pictures of other kids of friends and family members. And now I have this crazy idea that I might actually want to do this for a living….which is really crazy when you consider that I am a Ph.D student in a major biomedical science program!!! This website would really help jumpstart me to transition from an amateur photographer to being able to market myself as a professional for hire. This website has always been a great source of info for people like me who know alot about taking technically sound pictures…but need help with the creative aspect of things…and maybe more importantly, how to turn this passion of photography into a business. Thanks for your consideration.

  116. Rachael on November 12, 2009 at 9:56 am

I’m just starting to turn my hobby into a business with the hope that I’ll never have to grace a cubicle again. My website is currently a basic portfolio in need of navigational improvement and customer friendly tools. A new website will help brand my business and change my website from a personal portfolio to a customer focus. Thanks for the chance!

  117. Kristen Dunne on November 12, 2009 at 10:31 am

Oh this is just what I need!!!! I am just getting a business going and need a website to show my work. I have a blog currently but is definitely a no frills site. I need something professional and polished and would love to be able to launch with a fancy new website. Great contest, thanks!

  118. Michelle Hamstra on November 12, 2009 at 10:31 am

I need some help! My website is my own creation and I am NOT a webs designer! I’d love love love a custom designed smugmug site!

  119. Juanita Rodgers on November 12, 2009 at 10:56 am

I have saved & saved for more than three years to finally launch my photography business, “Sweetie Pie Smiles.” I was having a confidence issue and just unsure of how I could do it with a full-time job; but this past month I just did it! I had a friend create a logo for me and I had another friend tell me about Smugmug so I just finally breathed a heavy sigh and said, “Now or Never!” I’m very excited about the opportunity to take photos of care-free and happy children with their families – I have done some professional shoots and my business has really sparked word around town with lots of positive response but I still feel like my website needs that Customized look – a look that will give the feel of my personality & that feeling of what I want my lil’ clients to feel all warm & fuzzy and yet, professional…I would be so grateful to win a new website design and to beat, I sure would appreciate a year extension on my smugmug site – it’s a great value but it took a chunk of money to start and I would love to be able to spend that $150 that I wouldn’t have to spend for next year on another piece of camera equipment! MCP Actions has really been a God send for making my proofs just pop! They’re beautiful and I have to extend the same Thank you to MCP that my clients have been giving me… “I couldn’t be happier with the photograph results!”

  120. Heather on November 12, 2009 at 11:23 am

Oh, I would love a customized website from Smugmug/JR.I am just starting out, I have had my logo designed, I have been portfolio building for free and the last step to get my business off and running is a way to display my photographs and market myself. I was looking at Smugmug, but don’t have any money at the moment to get launched. Thank you for having this awesome giveaway

  121. Melissa on November 12, 2009 at 12:29 pm

Why do I need a new website?I just recently moved into the “paid” photographer catagory and so I decided to purchase a web domain and design a blog for myself. Who knew it would be SO overwhelming?! And because of that, I have yet to attempt and actual website with my portfolio and client galleries. I would love to have a professional website. Thankks for the amazing giveaway!

  122. Meghan on November 12, 2009 at 12:33 pm

I am just starting out with a business even though I’ve been doing photography for years and years for free. I ended up going with a template website in order to just get my information up on the web and have a place to send clients. The problem is I’m not happy with it at all. I don’t like the fonts, I can’t chose picture sizes, and while the template site was easy to create, it does look like most of the other photographers in my area (even the same colors!). I’m a goofy person who is trying to edge her way into a creative profession and I need a website that shows ME. I would love to be able to pay for a custom site, but at this point I simply don’t have the funds to do so. Please help me get a new site!

  123. Janet Lewallen on November 12, 2009 at 12:40 pm

I don’t yet have a website other than my small blogspot blog. Starting out is really hard because you don’t have a website to refer people to in order to build a client base but you also don’t have clients because they don’t have anything that’s *yours* to visit. I would love to have the opportunity to start strong and present the world with my brand from the very beginning.

  124. Carri Mullins on November 12, 2009 at 12:44 pm

I NEED a new website because…..well, I’ve never actually had one. I have a blog that I use for my business right now, but I think that there is just something about a good website, and how it represents your work. In my opinion, a beautiful website, full of helpful information, and easy to navigate, gives potential clients confidence in you and your business. No one wants to go to a messy site, that doesn’t answer their questions, and his not easy to get around. Since my family (and therefore, my biz) has been moving around recently, I have not been able to commit to a phone # to direct my clients to, so the first thing they are going to look for is my website. I need that website to reflect me, and represent my business in the classiest, most professional way possible. You really do only get one chance at a first impression, and I want mine to say “WOW”.My current blog can be found at carribethphotography.blogspot.com

  125. Teresa Sweet on November 12, 2009 at 12:44 pm

I would love the opportunity to win a SmugMug website! I have heard awesome things about the customized designs. I’ve been in the photography business for about 4-5 yrs but studying photography for 12 yrs. The last two designs for my website have been templates from a VERY popular site. Why?? Because people have said they are easy to design yourself. But they are so limiting. You can imagine that my site is the same to about 80% of the photographers out there. I really believe that my photography has outgrown the template design and would love to have a more customized design that shows my work, the emotion and my style. We, as photographers, need to stand out from everyone else with our websites. SmugMug is def the way to begin to show our true “colors”! 😉 GL to everyone who enters…everyone is deserving of this gift!

  126. Cindy Utterback on November 12, 2009 at 12:53 pm

I have struggled and wasted sooooooo much time on trying to get my site they way I want it… still it’s not there. Due to a recent injury that will require neck surgery I’m not able to work and therefore spending this downtime focusing on the business (with limited budget because I’m unable to work at all right now). I’m hoping to launch my business full time once recovered from surgery so I’m looking at branding ideas and stuck. Due to web-link complications I recently switched my business name from Inspiring Designs Photography to my name: Cindy Utterback Photography… now I desperately need a complete brand / website overhaul. I currently have blogger set up… but I’m unable to get it how I want it to look and it gives me grief every time I try to do anything. Would love to have you do the stuff you know how & love to do – so I can then focus on doing what I love to do. Thank You so much for considering me.

  127. Lacey Reimann on November 12, 2009 at 1:37 pm

I desperately need a new website, especially one that is customized by pros, because it would simplify business for me. If my clients could order directly from their gallery & site, it would save me time! I received two orders in my inbox yesterday and neither one matches the packages I offer. It will take extra time (which I don’t have) to do the math & invoice accordingly. Ordering directly from their gallery would force my clients to order as offered rather than send me an email of “I want more of X, but not any of X, and could I get Z like this?” In addition, I love the image display quality of SmugMug’s galleries. I currently have a Power account. Winning a free, customized site with a Pro account would help me take my business to the next level. Keeping my fingers crossed!

“Why do you feel you need a new web site for your photography business ?”My photography business has picked up quite a bit in the last year. I have a main web page that I’ve built my self (www.dabourphotography.com). Its fine but I can hear the sounds of people’s forehead hitting their desks while they’re reading the site. I already found the wisdom of SmuMug Pro (dabour.smugmug.com). I would love for that to be my main site as well as photo store and by up to date and nice looking! Thanks!Dave

  129. Julie on November 12, 2009 at 5:58 pm

Oh wow what an awesome competition! I would love to have a personally designed website, the design I currently have is very popular so would love to stand out in the crowd but unfortunately have no creativity or computer knowledge to create one myself. This would be wonderful to win, thanks so much 🙂

I would absolutely love a new….sorry, A website:) I currently am hosting my godaddy bought domain name through blogger, and just don’t know enough about HTML to get it where I want it. I would absolutely love to have an upgraded website, but being a 21 y/o mother, student and photographer…the funds just aren’t there right now! Obviously I’m sure this will happen eventually for me, but I am SO darn antsy (oh and just waiting for myself to get better so I can start charging, hehe). A proofing site, such as smugmug would be FABULOUS to have access to as well:) They are seriously great. All of these great people who commented above me have great stories, and I’m sure mine won’t fall into the top 10…but a girl can try, right?:) Thanks for the opportunity MCP!www.rebeccawerslandphotography.com

My wife recently graduated from law school, and if you know anything on the subject, you’d know the fledgling lawyer market is horrible right now. After a couple of months she’s been hired on as an independent contractor for a firm, and pays them 50% of all the fees she takes in for using their resources. Even so, business is EXTREMELY slow for her. We’re talking less than 3 figures per week before having to pay the firm.I’ll be spending my lunch-hour and evening time building a semblance of a website for her, just to get her name out there and get her to show up on google searches and maps. I have no time to make a website for a side-job photography business that would help make the mortgage.People tell me my stuff is pro level, even though I didn’t have any collegiate training. I take good stuff, have quality gear and a great post processing workflow, but without a marketing tool like a website, word of mouth won’t get me very far. If you guys can donate a website with some direction on a business plan, it would be an amazing gift to get our plans off of the ground, and maybe even start a new direction for our lives. I hate having to ask, but pride is beyond me at this point. Here’s hoping.

I look forward to starting my photography business pretty soon and would love to have a professional and stylish web site to help my display my photogrpahy! I would really like to have a professional looking website that accents my photography and enhances the writing I do. I would like to have coordinating links/buttons to products I plan on selling (cards, prints, etc.) in the near future, plus spaces for tutorials and information that other photographers may find useful.Thank you for the chance to enter!

  142. Chuck Murphy on November 13, 2009 at 4:05 pm

While I don’t know if I’ll ever deserve the title of professional photographer, I would like to at least try to look like one, if that makes sense. Having a good career, but loving photography, I am in a bit of a quagmire. I would love to devote more time to photography, and in that sense, be able to devote additional time to vastly improving the appearance and flow of my website. I would love to be able to retire and pursue photography fulltime. We’ll see what the future holds.I know that my poor sales are linked to my sites appearance, but have a difficult time in managing the time to cause the improvements that are needed. I am also unsure if my site truly reflects me, or my photography style. Organization of a website should be a higher priority, but life, work, and my love of photography pushes the organization factor farther down the proverbial list.I too suffer from knowing it should look better, but I also suffer from not knowing enough HTML, or understanding CSS enough to improve it.Winning a new website, or a website ‘makeover’ would be a wonderful notion. Thanks for reading my ramblings,

  143. Alison Nickel on November 13, 2009 at 5:16 pm

Why am I in need of a Smugmug website? Well, to be honest, I do not have one yet. Don’t get me wrong, I have attempted several times over the last 2 months to create a site, but when I get almost finished there is always “something”. So, of course, I delete and start over. Over the last year I have gotten back into photography after a few years off to stay at home with my children. I relized a bit to late there is no reason to take time off, I could be doing it PT. The problem- well, it has taken me this year to adjust to all things digital- leaving my computer a bit in the dust. I have taken weddings, children and seniors at little or no cost to help build my portfolio back up, now I need a place to display my work so I can start booking real clients. I would love to be able to advertise to my potential clients with a sleek new website from smugmug! Thank you for this opprotunity to enter your contest. Since I do not have a current website, let me know if you need to see any of my work. Thanks again- Alison

  144. Kelly Manley on November 13, 2009 at 10:19 pm

My name is Kelly Manley. I am half blind, deaf and 30 years old. The photography have always been my passion ever since I was 5 years old. Being a photographer gives me a chance to have a “normal” eyesight. Many people don’t always understand or see what I mean in the viewfinder. Some of them are scared to give me a chance to prove them wrong that I can do what any of other photographers with 20/20 eyesight do. I fear that my website are not as good as any of the professional/freelance photographers out there even I tried my best setting it up. All I know is that the pictures I took made people smile, feel a little emotional, remind them of a memory, or anything that made them feel. I want to be able to have a website that is professional and affect the clients the same way I shoot my pictures. I am a freelance photographer and I am proud at what I do and I think i deserve this kind of help.

OH MY GOODNESS!!!! I think once you look at our site you’ll understand WHY we NEED a new and improved site!! If you don’t have the right marketing tools then you lose out….we are losing out! The Lord has blessed us with a beautiful gift of capturing those cherished moments, but we (my twin sister and I) are struggling with each having 40 hr day jobs, living 250 miles apart, and trying to make our own families still feel loved while we sit in front of the pc editing 1000’s of pics and praying for the day when we can be photographers full time!!! Whew, that just made me tired! Neither one of us knows how to design a site nor has the time…..PLEASE bless us by choosing us!!

I definitely need some help to step in the right direction with getting my business up and running. I just don’t feel that my site is polished enough and I haven’t quite been able to realize my vision just yet. I’ve been struggling over the last year and a half to properly market myself and display my work so that I can draw in clients and I haven’t been able to do that at all. It’s very discouraging. Thanks for this amazing opportunity and good luck to everyone!

I am trying to design a new website now but am not a technical soul. I am struggling to the point of utter frustration. My current unnamed website provider (something like blu something) does not represent the level of photography that I am doing now. I want to rub my current website off the face of the map and begin anew!!!

Wow! What a fantastic contest! I’ve long admired the websites that Smugmug provides, and would love to have one, it’s on my list of “eventually’s”. In the meantime, until I start really making some profit in this business, I created a DIY website because I needed SOMETHING to put galleries up. I’m not sure this was the right answer, as it really doesn’t show what I want it to, but I’m at a loss as to what to do with it! I know I need to get more out there, more information, galleries and just a better look that more represents me, but I’m not a designer and don’t have the funds off the top to invest. Bad, I know, but reality sometimes sucks! At any rate, my website is at http://www.deenahill.com, and I am Deena Hill Photography! I know there are several deserving entrants out there, and anyone who wins this will be super lucky!

You have got to be kidding me!! How amazing would that be??!! I have spent hours upon upon hours on Dgrin with attempting to make my site look better. I SOOO want an amazing site like all of the other professional photographers!! I have used Smugmug for about 4 years now. Just in the last 2 years I have gotten it to look better but NOTHING like the ones that JR did! AMAZING! I would love for my clients to log onto a site like that. I remember watching Jodi’s site change over time. I was always amazed at the awesome things you had your site doing!! I want that WOW factor for my site. I hate having all of the “pictures” that my clients have to click on for my pricing and information. Honestly- I work full time at the local elementary school, have a husband who is trying to open a business, have a 6 year old son and I am try to keep my photography business up and going. While TRYING to stay up to date with the local big photographers. I simply don’t have the time nor strength to sit for anymore hours and try to figure it out for myself 🙂 This would be an AMAZING step for my photography! I’ll just keep my figures crossed X. If I don’t get picked, I’ll make it. I’ll just pray that someone who is in a turning point in their photography journey will and it will bless their journey~ThanksApril

I’ve been in love with photography my entire life. I decided to pursue my dream with a shoestring budget at the beginning of this year. I had no money, but I was not afraid of hard work. I started with a $500.00 credit card limit and a Rebel XT. Add to that, a whole lot of guts, sweat and passion. I offered specials, knowing that this year would be a “building” year. I used the deposit money to purchase my “L” lenses and a 40D, my speedlights and various other necessities for my business. At 50 years old, I am amazed that I finally took the plunge into doing something that is for me…not my family…not my friends…and not what is regarded as “safe.” Each wedding and each portrait session is personal and meaningful to me – which is so hard to describe – but a piece of me goes into every photo I take and every emotion I capture. I created my own site using bits and pieces of knowledge I’ve accumulated over the years. I keep saying that I will recreate it into something that reflects the emotion and passion that I feel about photography. I don’t want a “cookie cutter” site like everyone else’s. I want it to be….me. This takes time and more knowledge (and money) than I currently have. I would love the opportunity to have a site/blog created that identifies who I am and my love for what I do.

For the last 9 months, I’ve been laid off well really unemployed as I don’t see me going back to my company any time soon. But this layoff has been a blessing in disguise. Despite being one income down we decided that during this time the best thing for me was to go back to school for graphic design . It has given me the opportunity to focus on my creative side. I’ve also been photographing my boys (and any one else who comes my way) non stop. It has made me realize that this is what I want to do. I don’t want to work in an office, typing dictation, and thinking about one day having a fulfilling job. I love capturing moments. I love being able to do that for my family and friends. With everything uncertain in our lives right now, I feel calm being behind that lens.I am at a point that I am ready to start portfolio building. My family is also ready for me to start my own business. My boys would be happy not having to be my photography subjects all the time. And my husband realizes that my unemployment checks will stop coming at some point. I need to have an income source in place. I really have been overwhelmed on how to start a business. What steps to take, designing a brand, etc. It really been holding me back when I just want to take this leap and see if it will fly. It would be wonderful to start off with a professionally designed site. I could actually say with confidence “Hi I’m Stephanie Doran. I’m a photographer. Please check out my website”I have had my own wordpress blog at http://www.timeslidesby.com for almost a year now. I realize the time it took to design and customize it and its not even that great. I can only think of the time it would take me to design a site that wouldn’t even come close to the websites done by jR customizations. For me it would be the time, because we don’t have the money to spend. So please take a chance on me!

Being recently retired and would love to take my photography to the next level. I have done my best with some help but a sharp professional site by MCP Actions would certainly catch the eye of new and returning customers. The examples show some truly exceptional work.

I would love to have a site. I hired someone to build my site, but it always had issues. It was not user friendly. I found out that my designer was not a local person, but was living in another country. After spending more money than I had planned, I had a site that I did not even like, so I let it go. I really want a new site, that I can work with happily!!

  154. Charity Arwine on November 14, 2009 at 12:57 pm

What more could a photographer ask for? A customized website would be awesome. I have one of those “templates” that several hundred, maybe even a thousand, photographers also have. I want to be different and stand out in the crowd. My images are different from my competitors and I would love for my website to be different too!

  155. Jimmie Butler on November 14, 2009 at 1:31 pm

I am a photographer, not a website developer. I like to spend my time effortlessly updating my blog/photosite so that I can spend more time with family, friends or clients. I just want to have a website that has all of the one stop options in one place and dazzle them at the same time. I want my website to load quickly and get to the content and right to the point …. but always leave them wanting more. If you could do that for me, you’ll have a client for life who will sing your praises all over the Las Vegas valley and then some!!!

  156. Erica on November 14, 2009 at 2:11 pm

What a fun question and what a difficult one to answer when I think of all the other photographers who could use this as much as I can.I have been taking pictures since my mother handed me her 35 mm camera and instructed me to take her photo when I was 8 years-old. Every significant moment (not necessarily event) I have recorded whether it was beautiful or heart breaking. That, for me, is what photography is. Capturing all those moments because they tell a story.I am a mother to a beautiful 17 month-old boy and am in the process of adopting a sibling for him. I am also the sole bread-winner in my house. During the day I work as an RN in the hospital which is often soul breaking work. In my free time I choose to capture the beauty around me. I love taking photos of families, children and volunteer my skills at events and for families experiencing loss. I would really like to have a nice site to increase business and referrals and to better advertise the wide range of services. Currently I am using a blog and it is not capable of all the things that I see on all the beautiful customize sites out there. Thank you for your consideration and good luck making this difficult decision!

I would LOVE to win this! I have a smugmug acct, not pro. I have had it for about a year. Its in bad need of someone with the talent to design it. I do not know how to design a website or even a blog. I have a logo and do not know how to put it on the site! I also volunteer at the animal shelter taking pictures for their site and I would love to add that onto my site, but then again I don’t know how. I do not have the money at the time to hire someone or I would. Please help.

I am desperately needing help with my website. I have had a SmugMug Pro account for about 2 1/2 years and have never really figured out how to set it up attractively! I am 57 years old….passionate about photography and eager to really start a new path in my life with photography as my vehicle…but my brain can only figure out so much technology at at time!!!!I have been a Dental Hygienist for over 35 years and am so thrilled with the way photography over the last years has helped me more and more fill the void in my creative side! Help with my website to grab attention and engage potential clients would be a fantastic help. I truly hope you will consider me and help me get it finally it “Pro” ready!!! Thanks so much for consideration…….

The dictionary defines good luck as “good fortune; advantage or success, considered as the result of chance.” I believe that this is what it will take for me to win this contest. Certainly, as I read through the comments on this post, each person is deserving of a new website — each person has a need for a new website. I am among those, clearly in need of a website makeover (as my current website is a blogspot template). What will mark me as a bit different? I am asking for a little luck — hoping that on November 21st, as the winner of this contest is announced, good fortune will come my way. What do you say? Will I get lucky? I designed my own website…in Frontpage no less (because I don’t know how to use anything else so far). The most obvious reason why I need a new website – Frontpage isn’t even supported by most web hosting companies anymore…it’s just a matter of time before I’ll be stuck – Please Help – I would absolutely need and would Love a new site!

  162. Judith Hunt on November 14, 2009 at 5:23 pm

I would love a website for my portfolio because right now I am still using wordpress to show my portfolo and notice that a lot of my visits go to my gallery page, and a powerful gallery will bring in lots more clients. I know tha smugmug delivers exceptionally powerful website.

  163. Donnell Probst on November 14, 2009 at 6:35 pm

I NEED a new SmugMug website because I love my husband and don’t want to get divorced… plus, I think a divorce would devastate my children! 😉 You see, I have tried – many times – with the help of my dear husband to design a new website (he’s a bit of a techy, but has limited web design experience… and NO flash experience)… which always ends in, well, nothing. Have you ever tried to do a home remodeling project with your spouse or significant other? I have found that remodeling a website has the same dire consequences on a relationship! I am currently use the Tofurious theme on WordPress, which is very lovely, but the scrolling my clients have to endure in order to view my images is enough to kill anyone’s interest in even the best photographer. When they arrive at my homepage, they see my banner. When they arrive at my portfolio, they see my banner. Same for the “About”, “Pricing”, “Contact”… you get the picture (no pun intended) – they might not even know that images exist on my site because every page they click on shows the same thing… my banner. I should put a disclaimer in my banner that states, “Please scroll extensively to see actual images”. I have worked furiously at improving my photography, but do not have a great platform to showcase images, provide client ordering, and save my marriage. So please, visit my site and… well, start scrolling! My blog is clean and uncluttered (almost to a fault), but could use a little excitement (and NOT the kind of excitement my marriage sees when my husband tries to help)! The Probst Family thanks you for your consideration!

Well, after looking over all of these wonderful entries, I have no idea how I would win! Everyone has such beautiful reasons. My wish to win a jR customization and smugmug pro account is simply because I want to give my images the display they deserve. I am in based in Tampa, FL and we are literally weeks old. I have had a passion for design & photography all my life, but I have been blessed with my husband that not only supports my dream, but shares the gift of creativity. Our images are unique and represent our passion and love. We are tech savvy, but he works full time and I am also a full time student trying to attain my BA in Communications. We also have 2 little ones. Unfortunately, spending endless hours on our web presence is not an option at this time. We are trying to launch our business and at the same time, keep our brand solid and use the best tools out there. Smugmug is amazing! We had the chance to go to a meeting here in Tampa a few months ago, and I fell in love with the product. But at this time, we just don’t have the finances to have all the tools we want! We started a free blog on blogger http://kismisink.blogspot.com (though we really wanted to try WordPress!) and we started a free website on showit. We tried to be as inventive as we could with what we had, and you can see our results. :)We wish, as everyone else, to grow our business, put our brand/name out there, and make a profit along the way. But our deepest goal is to make a difference in our society. To share our passion and love for life in the most creative and outstanding display! Thanks for this opportunity!

Well, if you saw my blog/helpless website/blahness, you would really feel sorry for me. Sometimes I feel that if I just had an attractive website, I would get more business and look a little more professional. I seem to spend a lot of time editing pictures, but I don’t have the time to learn how to make a website look great. I just need help with even the basic of all basics website and I would feel a step closer to being a real official photographer.

  166. Belinda Olsen on November 14, 2009 at 11:02 pm

I am a new (4 months) photographer. I have tried to figure out html and css code and have NO idea how any of it works! I have tried and tried to figure that out after pricing how much it is for a website. Having an actual website would be help me be ‘official’. I think there is a great benefit to having both a blog and a website. I recently paid someone to help me set up my blog and I had to go through installing widgets and that in and of itself confused me. (that’s probably really pathetic to most of you) I actually have a basic smug mug account and can’t understand how to set up things. I would LOVE and APPRECIATE help getting that set up.

  167. Josie Hamper on November 14, 2009 at 11:29 pm

I would love to have a website rather than a blog. I like my blog but I’ve been told that other photographers are very professional because they have a “website” I want that “professional” look for my business. I think my customers deserve it! I would love to have galleries and online viewing too. Thanks. http://www.allforfunphotography.blogspot.com

  168. Lydia Shannon on November 14, 2009 at 11:59 pm

I have gone back and forth deciding whether or not to enter this contest. I made the mistake of reading so many of the other comments and thought, “Oh that person really wants it”, or “They soo deserve it.” I have been in a constant state of comparison. Now what I really want is a website that truly shows who I am, Lydia Shannon, as a person and as an artist. My current site isn’t terrible, but it sure doesn’t represent the 22 year old girl who is ready to spread her wings. Who just resigned from her fourth grade teaching position and is ready to take the photography world by storm. My website says nothing about myself other than the articles and posts that are written as personal. It is now 11:53pm and I am probably the last person to enter this contest. But that is me. In January, I have decided to incorporate and really create a business. I realize that if I want to be a high end photographer, I need a website that sells me instantaneously to my clients. I am always up on my soapbox talking about how people NEED to hire a professional and here I am with a template website that I created myself. Please help me to stop being a hypocrite and to start being myself. Too stop comparing to everyone else and to truly come in to my own as not only a photographer, but also as a person.

  170. Gena Talbot on November 15, 2009 at 2:31 am

Wow…what a great and fantastic opportunity this is… First off thank you for offering such a wonderful gift! I myself do not have a web site. I use the basic myspace to show the people I photograph their images and then have them tell me which ones they want me to print from there. I do not have the first clue about setting up a web site but would LOVE to have one so maybe the people around my area would take me serious! I do so many free photo shoots because I feel no one thinks I am anything more then a picture taker (nothing close to a professional) don’t get me wrong I don’t mind doing things for people but for the past year that’s all I have done. So maybe… 🙂 I would love to see if a web site could turn things around!

  171. Cristen Ransom on November 15, 2009 at 6:30 pm

My comment didn’t post originally so I’m coming back to post after the fact so I can qualify for the discount. 🙂 I need a new update to my blog and my smugmug page! It’s so outdated!

  172. Alyson Osborn on November 16, 2009 at 11:02 pm

Man do we need a website! My business partner and I have been trying since last october to have our friend finish our web site. That’s right I said a year! They started and never finished. When you go to our site it says coming soon. Every dollar we make goes right back into our business buying backgrounds, lights, and lens. This would be our final thing we need to really give us that boost we need in building our client base. We both currently work full time jobs on top of running our photography business. We would love nothing more to dedicate all of our time to our passion and finally leave or jobs!! We believe getting a functional and operating website is the key.

  173. Rebecca on November 16, 2009 at 11:06 pm

Someone else is certainly more deserving, but I had to comment anyway. One of these days, I will find the time and money to build a site and start my photography dream. In the meantime, I hope the very best person wins this awesome prize!!

  174. Tonya on November 22, 2009 at 11:42 pm

Oh my gosh!!! I would love to have a website for my new passion for photography!! I am just starting out. I am a country girl from Kentucky and don’t have the money right now to invest in the website. PLEASE PLEASE PICK ME!!!!! thank you so much!!!

  175. Dedra Brown on December 1, 2009 at 10:20 pm

I couldn’t build a website if all that was required was spaghetti and meatballs and I was a master chef. I simply cannot do it. With kids ranging from teh ages of 22 through 3, learning how to build a website, be a wife and mother, business person, family nurse, family chef, family driver and anything else my family needs takes priority. I’ve been lucky enough to score a couple of gigs to pay a few bills, but I don’t really have a suitable place to display my work or samples. So many others have some sort of website. All I have is SmugMug and thank goodness for them.

  176. Jasmine on August 29, 2012 at 1:51 pm

I need a website from Smugmug because I currently do not have one at all. I post my photos on facebook and tumblr. I’m in college right now and don’t have the time or money required to make a decent website. Photography is my passion, and I would really love the opportunity to post my photos on a website of my own so that I could share them with the world and also get my own business up and running.
