Nikon is rumored to hold a product launch event in the near future, most likely by the end of the month. A new Nikon Coolpix compact camera is said to be the epicenter of the event. However, inside sources are not ruling out the fact that the Nikon D800s DSLR camera could actually take this role and replace both the D800 and D800E.

The Sony A58 A-mount camera is believed to be the next in line to be discontinued. The shooter will reach the end of its life cycle sometime this summer, thus making room for a replacement that may well be announced at the Photokina 2014. Additionally, it seems like Sony is preparing a new RX camera as well as an E-mount mirrorless shooter.

New high-end Nikon telephoto lenses to employ fluorine coating

Nikon is rumored to replace five of its Nikkor telephoto lenses within the next two years. The 200mm, 300mm, 500mm, 600mm, and 200-400mm are the designated models and it seems like all new high-end Nikon telephoto lenses will feature fluorine coating, just like the 400mm f/2.8E FL ED VR and 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR lenses.

After breaking the “news” that a new Olympus PRO lens is scheduled to get a proper official announcement soon, the same source is back with more details about the product. It seems like the Olympus 7-14mm f/2.8 PRO lens price will stand at about $1,800, the same amount you have to pay for the Four Thirds version of the lens.

The latest industry reports confirmed that digital camera shipments in Q1 2014 decreased when compared to shipments recorded during the same period in 2013.
