Instagram now wants users to provide photo ID verification
It appears that Instagram is doing its best to force users to leave the photo sharing service. Users’ latest reason to completely abandon the photo sharing and editing service consists of the company’s decision to lock out many accounts. In order to unlock their accounts, Instagram users have to provide government-issued photo IDs.
Canon EF24-70mm f/2.8L II USM rated best DxOMark standard zoom lens
DxOMark sets the industry standard for digital camera and image sensor ratings. The latest product to fall into DxOMark’s hands was the Canon EF24-70mm f/2.8L II USM, which was dubbed as a “peerless performer.” Following the review, the lens managed to achieve the highest rating for a mid-range fixed-aperture lens.

Curiosity rover takes the first Mars nighttime photos
On August 6th, 2012, the Curiosity rover touched down on Mars. The robot has been analyzing the Red Planet’s soil since then and it has been spending its free time by taking several daytime shots of Mars. A few days ago, NASA calibrated the rover for night shots and Curiosity took the first nighttime photographs of our neighboring planet.
New Google Image Search design rolling out now
Google has decided that enough is enough, therefore it has unveiled a new Google Image Search user interface. The design has been completely overhauled, in order to improve the search experience of both users and webmasters. The new design is currently being rolled out to a few Google Image Search users, though all of them are going to receive it soon.

NASA sends Mona Lisa image into space using laser communication
NASA sent a black-and-white image of the Mona Lisa painting to the moon’s orbit. The Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter was one the receiving end of the photo, taking advantage of the Lunar Orbiter Laser Altimeter, a communication device based on laser technology.

Sony launches new 20mm pancake and 18-200mm power zoom lenses
Sony has decided to expand its E-mount camera lens series with two new lenses specially created for the company’s NEX line of mirrorless cameras and camcorders. GoPro Hero3 teardown reveals Sony image sensor
The iFixit team gave the GoPro Hero3 camcorder the tear apart treatment. The GoPro Hero3’s teardown revealed that the 12-megapixel Sony image sensor is not adhered to the motherboard, thus making it very easy to be replaced by the owners of this 4K HD-capable resolution camcorder.
Top 20 US patent holders pose for an interesting infographic
The Chipworks team has compiled an interesting infographic highlighting the United States patent activity in 2012. There were no surprises at the top, with IBM taking the leading position for the 20th consecutive year, however, 4 of the top 5 companies from the infographic are camera manufacturers, while several others made it into the top 20.
Nikon Image Space officially replacing myPicturetown on January 28th
Nikon announced that it will replace the older myPicturetown photo sharing and storage service early next week. Nikon Image Space will be officially launched next Monday, with enhanced features, entirely new user interface, and many other options to improve user experience for Nikon camera owners.
Hungarian team reveals world’s highest-resolution aerial ortho image
Breakthrough technologies and an aircraft have helped the Székesfehérvár organization of the Society for Military and Civil Cooperation and the Interspect Research Team to shoot the high resolution aerial ortho image, depicting the Military Memorial Park in Hungary, that cannot be displayed not even by Google Earth.

This time, WordPress created a new specialized section, just for the picture-perfect website. Automattic, WordPress’ parent company, has created a new “Portfolios” page in order to attract the people that work with images: photographers, visual artists, designers, etc.
Kodak-branded Micro Four Thirds camera to be released in Q3 2013
China was witness to a new Kodak-branded camera which was shown off at a press conference in Peking. The new Micro Four Thirds camera is planned for release in late Q3 of 2013. Made by JK Imaging, the new Micro Four Thirds camera is going to have a built in WiFi transmission function.

Vogue, one of the oldest fashion and lifestyle magazines in the United States, published a controversial photo shoot depicting Hurricane Sandy first responders alongside the magazine’s models. Nikon D5200 sensor scores higher DxOMark rating than D3200
DxOMark, the company which is actively testing camera sensors, has given its overall rating for the Nikon D5200, which is higher than the score achieved by the company’s other 24-megapixel shooter, the D3200. This was to be expected as the new shooter is placed one category above its Nikon counterpart.
