The new Portraiture Photography category will be a part of the Grants Program and this year will be the first time when it will be included in the aforementioned competition.

The award offered by Getty Images will go by the name of “Contour by Getty Images Portrait Prize”. It will be given for “excellence” in portraiture, one of the most common forms of photography.

Only emerging photographers are eligible for the prize

However, not all photographers will be eligible for the competition. The contest rules say that only rising lensmen can submit images as their professional experience must not stretch beyond the past five years.

This means that all photos who have been in the business for less than five years can submit their images to the judges’ panel.

Speaking of which, the judges list will consist of renowned photographer Peter Lindbergh, Buzzman founder Georges Mohammed-Chérif, Polka Magazine founder Alain Genestar, La Lettre de la Photographie founder Jean-Jacques Naudet, and Glamour director of photography Laurence Vecten.

Judges are expecting to see between 10 and 20 portraits from each photographer, as well as a biography and description of their work.

The winner of the Contour by Getty Images Portrait Prize will receive $10,000 and the winner will be made public in October 2013. Moreover, the winner’s work will be featured at the Polka Galerie in Paris.
