Fujifilm X100T premium compact camera unveiled

Fujifilm has finally announced the sought-after X100T, a premium compact camera that is said to feature the first electronic rangefinder in the world.

A lot of time has passed since the rumor mill has first begun talking about the possibility of a replacement for the X100s. Well, the big day is upon us, meaning that the Fujifilm X100T compact camera has been introduced to the public with several improvements over its predecessor.

Fujifilm X100T is now official with a new hybrid viewfinder with Focus Peaking and Digital Split Image support.

One of the main selling points of the X100T will be its Advanced Hybrid Viewfinder, which is also world’s first electronic rangefinder. When the focus ring is turned, users will get a rangefinder-like vision in the viewfinder, which calls for more accurate focusing.

Fujifilm has added both Digital Split and Focus Peaking modes to the camera, while also allowing users to modify the magnification rate in the focus area.

Another important feature is the built-in neutral density (ND) filter, which can reduce the amount of light by 3-stops. Its effects can be displayed through the optical viewfinder, so the users know what to expect.

The Japan-based manufacturer has confirmed that the camera’s optical part of the viewfinder supports Real-time Parallax Correction to make sure that photographers do not have to reframe their shot after setting the focus.

The X100T viewfinder is offering very little display lag and auto brightness control, thus ensuring that users will enjoy a very pleasant experience during photo shoots.

Fujifilm X100T employs a 3-inch LCD screen on the back, multiple Fn buttons, and 4-way controller.

Fujifilm X100T borrows heavily from the X100s, but it is more customizable

Fujifilm has decided to keep the same sensor, processor, and lens in the X100T. This means that the camera still comes with a 16.3-megapixel APS-C X-Trans CMOS II image sensor, EXR Processor II engine, and 23mm f/2 lens (which offers a 35mm equivalent of approximately 35mm).

The novelties go hand-in-hand with some design changes. The X100T is now more versatile than the X100s, as it features an aperture ring with 1/3 steps, the command dial has been turned into a 4-way controller, while the exposure compensation dial offers +/- 3 stops.

Moreover, there are seven Fn buttons throughout the camera, which can be easily customized by the users.

The LCD screen on the back is also bigger, measuring 3-inches instead of 2.8-inches, while offering a resolution of 1.04-million dots.

Fujifilm X100T sports an electronic shutter mode capable of achieving a shutter speed of 1/32000th of a second.

Silent electronic shutter with a maximum speed of 1/32000-sec

The Fujifilm X100T features the fastest electronic shutter in the world, as the rumor mill has predicted. It is entirely silent and it is able to take photos at 1/32000th of a second. This way, photographers can use a very wide aperture for a shallow depth of field even in broad daylight conditions.

On the other hand, the slowest shutter speed stands at 30 seconds, which is perfect for low-light shooting using a tripod.

The regular ISO sensitivity range stretches between 200 and 6400. However, it can be expanded between 100 and 51200.

Fuji’s new premium compact camera shoots RAW photos and full HD videos at a maximum frame rate of 60fps with a bit rate of up to 36Mbps and stereo audio recording support.

Fujifilm X100T will be released this November in Black and Silver colors.

Built-in WiFi for remotely controlling the X100T from a mobile device

A minimum focus distance of 50 centimeters sits at users disposal, but Fujifilm has added a Macro mode, which will allow the X100T to focus on subjects located at a distance of 10 centimeters.

The company has confirmed that the X100T is a speedy camera with a continuous shooting mode of up to 6fps.

The content is stored on a SD/SDHC/SDXC card slot, but the good thing is that it can be transferred to a smartphone or tablet via WiFi. This function can also be used for taking control over the camera remotely from a mobile device.

Users familiar with the new Fujifilm X30 will be happy to hear that the “Classic Chrome” film simulation mode has also been added to the X100T.

Availability information

The Fujifilm X100T camera measures 127 x 74 x 52mm / 5 x 2.91 x 2.05-inches, while weighing 440 grams / 15.52 ounces with the battery and card included.

Its official release date has been set for mid-November. Fuji’s partners will sell the camera for a price of $1,299.95 in Black and Silver colors, depending on a user’s preferences.

Amazon has already begun listing the camera at the aforementioned price with the promise that shipping begins on November 30.
