The Sony A7000 is being mentioned once again within the rumor mill, as the mirrorless camera will allegedly feature 4K video recording when it becomes official sometime in 2015.

Sony’s flagship E-mount camera with an APS-C-sized image sensor still does not have a replacement. The amazing NEX-7, which has received numerous praises from critics, reviews, and users alike, has not been substituted by a newer model, even though there have been lots of rumors pointing in this direction in 2013 and 2014.

Sitting just below the NEX-7, the Sony NEX-6 was replaced by the A6000 earlier in 2014. As the “NEX” brand is slowly being killed, it is very likely that the upcoming high-end E-mount camera with an APS-C sensor will be called Sony A7000.

After A6000’s launch, sources have said that the A7000 has no chances of becoming available by the end of 2014. Another insider is back with similar information, claiming that the NEX-7 replacement will be released in 2015.

The replacement for the Sony NEX-7 will be called A7000 and it will feature a new image sensor as well as 4K video recording capabilities.

Sony to launch NEX-7 replacement in 2015 with new 24-megapixel sensor

There is no evidence to suggest that the Sony A7000 release date will be scheduled to take place by the end of 2014, so this E-mount mirrorless interchangeable lens camera is bound to come to the market next year.

As the beginning of 2015 features two major events, Consumer Electronics Show and CP+ Camera & Photo Imaging Show, it would be possible for the PlayStation maker to reveal the device on either of these occasions.

It is said that the NEX-7 replacement will not employ a big-megapixel sensor. The model will be brand new, but it will still offer 24 megapixels, just like the NEX-7 and A6000.

Upcoming Sony A7000 to be capable of recording 4K videos

One of the highlights of the NEX-7 replacement will be uncompressed 4K video recording. The Sony A7000 will be able to capture high-resolution videos, although it remains to be determined whether it needs an external recorder, like the Sony A7S, or not, like the Panasonic GH4.

The mirrorless camera will have a rangefinder-like design and will be weathersealed, so photographers can take it out even in harsh environmental conditions.

Its maximum shutter speed will allegedly stand at 1/8000th of a second and the A7000 will also come with tethering support. For now, the Sony NEX-7 is available at Amazon for about $1,075.

Two new E-mount lenses poised for 2015 launch

Sony will also introduce a couple of lenses. Its own 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSSS will be substituted by the second-generation version and will not be weathersealed.

On the other hand, Zeiss will develop a new 16-70mm f/4 ZA OSS lens, which will come packed with weathersealing points, thus becoming a great kit lens for the Sony A7000.

As usual, do not hold your breath over these rumors, but stay tuned for more details!
