Fujifilm X200 to feature same APS-C sensor as the X-Pro2

The Fujifilm X200 is rumored to feature the same sensor as the upcoming X-Pro2 mirrorless camera, meaning that it will be APS-C-sized instead of a full-frame unit.

There was a time when it was believed that Fujifilm would make the jump to full-frame sensors in both its flagship mirrorless and compact cameras. However, the X-Pro2 is allegedly in development and it has an APS-C sensor, while the X200 rumors have been silenced after the introduction of the X100T.

The gossip talks are returning now and it seems like there is no chance for the X100T replacement to be a full-frame camera, as it will employ the same APS-C sensor as the X-Pro2. The sensor is said to have such a high quality that there is no need to make the switch to full-frame.

Fujifilm is still believed to be working on a successor to the X-Pro1. Inside sources are reporting that the new flagship X-mount mirrorless camera will become official by the end of 2015 or in very early 2016. Nevertheless, it is not the only new Fuji product in development.

Fujifilm X100T will be replaced by the X200, which will feature a 24-megapixel APS-C sensor.

The X100T was unveiled at Photokina 2014, but it is a minor upgrade over the X100S, so there is a need for a more significant improvement. The answer is the Fujifilm X200, albeit its release date is unknown for the time being.

This compact camera will feature the same APS-C sensor as the X-Pro2. According to the rumor mill, the unit consists of a 24-megapixel X-Trans III CMOS sensor that will be backside-illuminated and will be powered by a new image processor.

Meanwhile, the X100T is available at Amazon for a price a little under $1,300.

Fujifilm X-Pro2 specs round-up

There is a strong chance that a lot of X-Pro2 features will make their way into the Fujifilm X200, so let’s take a look at the rumored specs of the mirrorless interchangeable lens camera.

The shooter is said to have a maximum shutter of speed 1/8000s, courtesy of a mechanical shutter. It will employ a tilting display on the back and built-in WiFi. Photos and videos will be stored on two SD card slots, while the camera will record videos at 4K resolution.

Its flash X sync speed will be quicker than 1/180s and the camera will be weathersealed. It remains to be seen whether these gossips are true or not, so stay tuned!
