A list of initial Canon 80D specs has been leaked on the web, hinting that the upcoming 70D replacement will have a similar sensor as the recently-released 750D and 760D DSLRs.

Canon is allegedly working on a successor to the EOS 70D DSLR. A DPReview forum member, who has leaked Canon rumors in the past, has revealed a small, yet interesting specs list of the so-called EOS 80D.

Moreover, the leakster has provided some details about the announcement date of the camera. It seems like the device will not be introduced by the end of this year, but it is not coming out too late either, so here is what you need to know about the upcoming Canon EOS 80D!

Initial Canon 80D specs list revealed online

The headline of the camera’s specs list will be the 24.2-megapixel APS-C CMOS image sensor. The source does not refer to it as new and, judging by its megapixel count, it is the same sensor as the one used in the EOS 750D and 760D cameras announced in February 2015.

Canon 70D will be replaced by the Canon 80D with a new sensor and updated Dual Pixel technology.

Its image processor will be a DIGIC 6+ or 7 and it will support a continuous shooting mode of up to 8fps. The Canon 80D specs list continues with built-in WiFi and NFC, the former which is available in the 70D.

The company will add a 49-point autofocus system that will include Hybrid CMOS AF III technology. It is worth noting that its predecessor, the 70D, is the first DSLR to come packed with Dual Pixel CMOS AF, so it is natural for the 80D to feature the latest version of this technology.

For the time being, the specs list is said to include a 3-inch articulated LCD touchscreen and full HD video recording.

Canon poised to announce EOS 80D in Q2 2016

As stated above, Canon will not reveal the EOS 80D by the end of 2015. According to the source, the camera will become official sometime in the second quarter of 2016, whereas the EOS 70D was announced in the third quarter of 2013.

We should mention the fact that this is an early rumor and that the specs might change from now until the camera’s release date. More specs and details will be revealed in the future, so watch out for them on Camyx!

Meanwhile, Amazon is selling the Canon 70D for a price of $999, which is $200 cheaper than the launch price of the camera.
