If you love rich, color popped image, you will want to read and learn from today’s Blueprint. Sometimes I like to have really fun, bright color and crispness with my photos. This photo of my daughter Ellie was taken on our cruise last month on Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas. I loved the real trees in the area they call Central Park. It was a perfect picture spot.
This photo straight out of camera was well-exposed and sharp. But I wanted to push the colors a bit and make it even more crisp. To do this, I used the following Photoshop actions:
- Ran Color Burst Color Pop Workflow Photoshop action from the Complete Workflow action set. I did not need to use the Paint on Pop layer as the built in color pop that runs by default was enough. I did not want the trees to glow.
- Ran Magical Clarity Photoshop action from the Bag of Tricks at the default opacity – this is what gives the photo that super crisp look.
- Ran the Free Photoshop action Touch of Light/Touch of Darkness, but I only used the Darkness layer. I painted on the background to make it richer and deeper.
- Ran the Magic See-Saw color correction Photoshop actions to increase the red and yellows in the image, which get rid of the coolness and helped color correct the image.
- Ran the Eye Doctor action – hard to tell on the web since the photo is low res and not a close up but it made a difference.
On both the before and after, I used the Finish It Rounded Color Block actions – for display purposes only.
I hope this gives you ideas of how to achieve color pop in Photoshop, that is not over the top but adds to the image.
