Sigma dp0 Quattro announced with fixed 14mm f/4 lens

Sigma has announced a new Quattro-series compact camera in the body of the dp0 Quattro, which features a fixed 14mm f/4 wide-angle lens.

At the beginning of 2014, Sigma revealed its vision for the future in the new Quattro-series of compact cameras. Three models have been confirmed, all featuring identical specifications, expect for their fixed lenses.

The dp1 features a 19mm f/2.8 optic, the dp2 employs a 30mm f/2.8 optic, while the dp3 has been revealed with a 50mm f/2.8 optic.

A new model has been added to this line-up. Sigma has confirmed the development of the so-called dp0 Quattro, which features a 14mm f/4 lens and which will be on-display at the CP+ Camera & Photo Imaging Show 2015.

This is the new Sigma dp0 Quattro compact camera, which features a fixed 14mm f/4 lens with a 35mm focal length equivalent of 21mm.

The new Sigma dp0 Quattro compact camera features the same unconventional design as its siblings. Its elongated design is said to be optimized for usability and functionality.

As these always depend on user’s preferences, it is best to look at the camera’s specs list, which includes an image sensor of about 29 megapixels.

The new Foveon Quattro image sensor consists of three sheets of pixels, as follows: one 19.6-megapixel layer of blue pixels and a couple of 4.9-megapixel layers of red and green pixels.

Just like its siblings, the dp0 Quattro will shoot 29-megapixel RAW photos, while offering a Super-High Resolution JPEG mode of about 39 megapixels.

The shots are processed by a TRUE III image processor, which is said to bring medium format-like quality in a compact and lightweight form factor.

Sigma dp0 Quattro will offer a 35mm focal length equivalent of 21mm, so it is aimed at photographers with a keen eye for architecture, landscape, and street photography among others.

Availability details will be revealed sometime in the near future

The 14mm f/4 lens found in the Sigma dp0 Quattro consists of 11 elements divided into eight groups. It includes four F-Low Dispersion elements, a couple of Special Low Dispersion elements, and a pair of aspherical elements.

They are meant to suppress chromatic aberration and other optical flaws in order to increase the overall quality of the image.

There are no details about the release date of this compact camera. However, the Japan-based company promises to release it soon. The price is also unknown at this point.
