Frédéric Lagrange’s “Passage to Wakhan” documents Afghanistan

Photographer Frédéric Lagrange has captured a series of impressive photos of the living conditions in eastern Afghanistan and the places that used to be a part of a popular trading route, called the Silk Road.

A lot of people do not know anything about Afghanistan. All they can tell you about is that armed forces of the USA have invaded it more than a decade ago in search for Osama bin Laden, the leader of the terrorist organization responsible for the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center twin-towers.

France-born photographer Frédéric Lagrange is aiming to show a different side of Afghanistan, one that the world has never seen and one that has nothing to do with a blood and hatred-filled war.

Eastern Afghanistan is home to a plethora of amazing landscapes which can lead to stunning travel photographs. Frédéric knows what he is doing and he has been able to capture fascinating images of the places of what used to be important parts of the Silk Road.

Hundreds of years ago, the Silk Road was a popular trading route extending from Europe to Asia. Pilgrims used it, as well as soldiers, monks, merchants, and nomads who needed something or simply traveled along the 4,000-mile route.

Time has forgotten about these places, which find themselves in pristine condition

Although the war may be not the one to blame for the living conditions in eastern Afghanistan, there is no denying that most of the attention has been drawn towards Al Qaeda, Talibans, and Americans.

There are some positives in this nonetheless, as the environment is in pristine condition. Time appears to have forgotten about these places and these people, who have somehow managed to preserve their lifestyle.

The latter part is considered the perfect reward by Frédéric Lagrange, who hints that having the honor to take photos of this landscape and the folks enduring its harsh conditions is more than anybody can ask.

“Passage to Wakhan” is the name of the project documenting this mountain range

Frédéric Lagrange has named the project as “Passage to Wakhan”. Wakhan is the name of the region, which is dominated by mountains and merciless environments.

It is worth noting that Lagrange has been working as a photographer since 2001. During the past years, his amazing photos have appeared in popular newspapers and magazines, such as GQ, The New York Times, Vanity Fair, and Vogue.
