Sony has patented a high-quality 50mm f/1.8 prime lens along with a 28-75mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS standard zoom lens for FE-mount mirrorless cameras.

In addition to new full-frame mirrorless cameras, Sony might also launch some new FE-mount optics in the near future. The company has patented a couple of optics, which include several designs, but two of them are particularly interesting.

It appears that the company is working on a nifty-fifty model that will deliver cutting-edge image quality. The product in question consists of a Sony FE 50mm f/1.8 lens that will be very expensive if it becomes a reality. The second model is a FE 28-75mm f/3.5-5.6 standard zoom optic which may replace the existing FE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 optic.

The Sony FE-mount lens line-up has expanded to decent levels and it will grow even more in the future. One of the upcoming products is described in a patent which was filed on September 27, 2013.

A Sony FE 50mm f/1.8 lens has been patented alongside the existing FE 55mm f/1.8 ZA Sonnar T* lens for A7-series full-frame mirrorless cameras.

This appears to be a high-quality lens made out of high-grade glass that will provide exceptional image quality. The patent application reveals little to no aberration of any kind, so this model could become one of the best optics ever developed.

Egami noted that the Sony FE 50mm f/1.8 lens would be very expensive if it were to become official. The patent was approved on April 13, 2015.

It is worth noting that the patent could describe the current or an upcoming FE 55mm f/1.8 ZA Sonnar T* lens, which is available at Amazon for a little under $1,000, so you will have to remain patient for further information.

Sony FE 28-75mm f/3.5-5.6 lens could replace the FE 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6, which is already available for FE-mount cameras owners.

Another FE-mount optic patented by Sony is a 28-75mm f/3.5-5.6 model with built-in Optical SteadyShot technology. It has also been patented alongside an existing model: the 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6.

If it becomes available on the market, then it will most likely replace the current generation with a more extended telephoto focal length. This patent was filed on September 17, 2013 and it has was approved on March 30, 2015.

The image quality appears to be good, but not at the same levels as those of the aforementioned Sony FE 50mm f/1.8 lens. As the patent is out there, it remains to be seen whether such product is on its way or not.
