People who know Thomas Kellner describe him as an artist. The German photographer is well-known among fellow artists. He won numerous awards, including the Young Professionals Prize given by Kodak Germany.

The best photographers on Earth are those who think outside the box in order to come up with new and exciting projects. Kellner is very passionate about taking photos of monuments around the world, including the Eiffel Tower, Golden Gate Bridge, the Great Wall of China, and the Colosseum.

Surreal panoramic shots made using 35mm film strips

Shooting panoramas is very entertaining and can pose a serious challenge. Many people who enjoy photography may have thought that they have seen it all, until Thomas revealed his “Tango Metropolis” project. It consists of creating mosaic-like panoramas of popular monuments around the globe.

Creating such a panorama is no easy task, as Kellner needs to carefully calculate the direction of his shots. The photographer uses 35mm film cameras to shoot landmarks. However, he does not print the photos, instead he chooses to arrange the rolls on top of one another to generate an original panoramic image.

The 35mm film rolls are cautiously placed next to one another with impressive results. The images are intended to challenge the viewer’s “usual perspectives”, as the panoramas are created in such a way that makes the buildings or monuments appear as they have been broken apart.

Travelling around the world to turn “Tango Metropolis” into a reality

Thomas Kellner’s photos, which are part of the “Tango Metropolis” project, seem like they are wrongfully-arranged puzzles. The photographer travels around the world to compile his projects and this one does not make an exception.

The project’s monument list includes the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, Marina Towers in Chicago, Puerta Europa in Madrid, Spain, the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, the Times Square in New York, the London Tower Bridge, New York’s Brooklyn Bridge, the Washington Capitol, the Palace of the Parliament in Bucharest, Romania, Catedral Metropolitanain  Brasilia, Brazil, the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, China, La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain, and the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.
