Stylish Olympus E-PL8 camera appeals to selfie enthusiasts

Olympus has introduced the PEN-series E-PL8 entry-level mirrorless camera, which will be released in a completely redesigned package compared to its predecessor, the PEN E-PL7.

Entry-level cameras have their place on the market, especially because they are cheap. Despite being lower-end products, PEN-series cameras have actually provided great value for the money and the Olympus E-PL8 will continue this trend.

The specifications list of the new model is actually not so different from the one of its forerunner. However, its design has suffered some changes, thus becoming and more sophisticated and stylish camera, as Olympus likes to say.

Olympus E-PL8 features a touchscreen that tilts downwards by 180 degrees.

Getting back to the specifications, the mirrorless camera features a touchscreen on its back, which can be tilted downwards by 180 degrees. This will be useful when capturing selfies, as the camera enters in Selfie mode when the display is tilted all the way down.

There are plenty of creative art filters which you can add to your photos or videos and then share them on social networks, such as Facebook. If you are wondering how to share them, then you will be pleased to know that you can connect to a smartphone via WiFi.

The WiFi connectivity will also allow users to remotely control the camera. Anyway, when you do not need the remote control function, it is worth noting that you can focus on your subjects by touching the display.

An affordable entry-level camera with in-body image stabilization

Olympus E-PL8 captures photos and videos thanks to a 16-megapixel Live MOS Micro Four Thirds sensor. Its power comes from a TruePic VII engine, which also delivers a continuous shooting mode of up to 5fps.

Olympus E-PL8 will become available this October.

The manufacturer says that the sensor will capture great images when used in combination with the high-quality M.Zuiko lenses. Additionally, the shots will be sharp and blur-free in poorly-lit conditions, thanks to the built-in image stabilization system.

Unlike its higher-end sibling, the new OM-D E-M1 Mark II, the PEN-series mirrorless camera is capable of recording videos only up to full HD resolution.

There are plenty of gimmicks available in the E-PL8, but an interesting one is called Nighttime Live Composite and it is aimed at capturing light trails at night. The device’s release date is set for October 2016 for a price of $549.99 in black, brown, and white color choices.
